Covert One: The Hades Factor

From Robert Ludlum, the best-selling author of "The Bourne Identity," and Gayle Lynds, ROBERT LUDLUM’S COVERT ONE: THE HADES FACTOR (working title) is a globe-spanning tale of action and intrigue that follows the members of an elite undercover team as they race to locate the source of a deadly virus that threatens to kill millions of Americans. The film is based on the first book in the Covert Series of international thrillers that features the character Colonel Jonathan Smith (Dorff), a disease specialist and former secret agent for Covert One, a top-secret American intelligence agency made up of political and technical experts who fight corruption and conspiracy at the highest and most dangerous levels of society, and who report directly and secretly to the President.

The United States Army Medical Research Institute for Infectious Diseases (USAMRIID) is called into service when three U.S. soldiers, who were stationed in Afghanistan, succumb to an unknown Ebola-like, doomsday virus with no known cure. The death toll mounts as the virus spreads and takes the life of Smith’s fiancé, Dr. Sophie Amsden, a medical researcher. When Smith discovers evidence that Sophie’s death was not an accident and the pandemic which threatens millions of lives was planned, he becomes even more determined to find out who is responsible for intentionally infecting the population.

Meanwhile, the President of the United States (Anjelica Huston), fears that her administration will be blamed for causing the outbreak. She orders the head of Covert One, Frank Klein (Danny Huston) and his second in command, Phillip Addison (Underwood), to destroy any evidence that Scimitar, a secret bio-weapons program, ever existed when she discovers that the program was compromised. She also learns that samples of the virus have surfaced on the black market and are in the hands of a terrorist organization. Klein and Addison convince Smith to go back undercover and help them find Rachel Russell (Sorvino), an agent and former colleague of Smith’s who disappeared after she killed two men in the process of securing vials containing the virus.

Smith travels to Afghanistan to enlist the help of Peter Howell (Meaney), a former spy living in Kabul, to help find the source of the virus and stop it before more innocent lives are lost.

I am sooooo waiting for the superspy/thriller/terrorist fascination to be over!!!! The republicans and the military have way too much money in Hollywood promoting their agendas!!!

  • mike

This book is 6 or 7 years old… it has nothing to do with "republicans and the military have way too much money in Hollywood promoting their agendas". it is a good book that someone has had the sense to make into a show… wish it was a movie

  • Lola

Yeah, lets make a show with a whole bunch of has-beens wash ups since 24 is really big. Really creative…some things are meant to just be books.

  • elizabeth

This movie would be better If Leonardo Dicapiro was staring in it .

  • Donna

HEY! It hasn’t even aired yet.. pre-judging a little? The book is really good :)

  • Sherman

Not just a fabulous book, but an incredible series! I’ve longed for this to become a movie series… And this is not pre-judging when I say that I’m already disappointed… Even at this early stage one can tell that the true story line has already been compromised. Smith’s character doesn’t even remotely resemble what a military officer should look like (too much scruff, too much hair). What about the president? HE is a native American (should be played by Graham Greene – perfect for this role). Josh Hartnett would have been a great Col. Smith; Reese Witherspoon a terrific Randi (not Rachel) Russell… And ultimately… Sean Connery perfectly fitting into the role of Peter…I’ll probably still watch it; but it won’t be the same as the "best" thriller books I’ve ever read…

  • Dave

Would have to agree. Did the person casting this read the book! Looking forward to it anyway.

  • Chris

COL Jon Smith is actually Lieutenant Jon Smith. He is too young to play a Colonel.

They changed the plotline waaaaaaayyyy too much…

  • k-ren

so NOT faithful to the book… who the heck is RACHEL RUSSELL of Covert-One??? It’s supposed to be RANDI of CIA…twin sister of Sophie Russel (not Amsden) … Stephen Dorff is so NOT Jon Smith… he doesn’t look military and just so NOT him… Fred (not Frank) Klein looks stupid not like Fred from the book… Anjelica HUston, President??? they should’ve stick to Sam Castilla…

  • k-ren

[part 2] i wonder if robert ludlum approved of this… it’s totally different from the book, and it’s really dissapointing… it bugged me as i was watching it, knowing that it was not faithful to the book from the beginning… when they make the 2nd one (cassandra compact), hope they stick to the book!!!

  • yecennia

this mini series is lile so awesome and stephen dorff is so hot and he makes a cute couple with Sophi

  • joy

I loved the show last night. I would like to get a copy of it. is there a place to buy it? please e-mail me if there is love_scrapbooking2@yahoo.com

  • Sherman

Absolutely painful to watch… What a disappointment! This movie was NOTHING like the book… All the characters didn’t come close to what Ludlum had written in. I’ll never buy it that Dorff could make it through Med School, let alone be a Military Officer… Burn this film and start over… the right way…
