Covert One: The Hades Factor
From Robert Ludlum, the best-selling author of "The Bourne Identity," and Gayle Lynds, ROBERT LUDLUM’S COVERT ONE: THE HADES FACTOR (working title) is a globe-spanning tale of action and intrigue that follows the members of an elite undercover team as they race to locate the source of a deadly virus that threatens to kill millions of Americans. The film is based on the first book in the Covert Series of international thrillers that features the character Colonel Jonathan Smith (Dorff), a disease specialist and former secret agent for Covert One, a top-secret American intelligence agency made up of political and technical experts who fight corruption and conspiracy at the highest and most dangerous levels of society, and who report directly and secretly to the President.
The United States Army Medical Research Institute for Infectious Diseases (USAMRIID) is called into service when three U.S. soldiers, who were stationed in Afghanistan, succumb to an unknown Ebola-like, doomsday virus with no known cure. The death toll mounts as the virus spreads and takes the life of Smith’s fiancé, Dr. Sophie Amsden, a medical researcher. When Smith discovers evidence that Sophie’s death was not an accident and the pandemic which threatens millions of lives was planned, he becomes even more determined to find out who is responsible for intentionally infecting the population.
Meanwhile, the President of the United States (Anjelica Huston), fears that her administration will be blamed for causing the outbreak. She orders the head of Covert One, Frank Klein (Danny Huston) and his second in command, Phillip Addison (Underwood), to destroy any evidence that Scimitar, a secret bio-weapons program, ever existed when she discovers that the program was compromised. She also learns that samples of the virus have surfaced on the black market and are in the hands of a terrorist organization. Klein and Addison convince Smith to go back undercover and help them find Rachel Russell (Sorvino), an agent and former colleague of Smith’s who disappeared after she killed two men in the process of securing vials containing the virus.
Smith travels to Afghanistan to enlist the help of Peter Howell (Meaney), a former spy living in Kabul, to help find the source of the virus and stop it before more innocent lives are lost.
