We Are Marshall Movie

We Are Marshall Synopsis :: The story, of course, is about the emotional impact of the November 14, 1970, plane crash near Tri-State Airport that killed all 75 aboard a chartered jet and the resurgence of Marshall’s football program. The crash killed nearly the entire Marshall football team and coaching staff, supporters from the community and the flight crew.

Huntington, West Virginia :: Production of 1970s-set biopic We Are Marshall hit Marshall University’s campus this past Tuesday, as filming was under way at the Walter "Lefty" Rollins Field and the Campus Christian Center.  Above are actors Matthew Fox, 39, and Matthew McConaughey, 36, decked out in their 1970s finest, including loud plaid jackets and wide ties. Matthew McConaughey will star as Coach Jack Lengyel of the Young Thundering Herd football team for four years following the 1970 plane crash that killed 75 people. Matthew Fox will play Red Dawson (hence his dyed red hair), a Huntington businessman and an assistant to Lengyel.  Watch Matthew McConaughey talk about We Are Marshall (Release Date :: December 8, 2006) during a press conference below.  More pictures in the gallery!

I am a resident of Huntington, WV and I was in a few scenes of the film when they were here in April. The director, producer, and the whole crew were very gracious to all of us and I just want to say that we are very proud of the work they have done and we are looking forward to the film’s release in December. I am very anxious because this film will show our story of tragedy and loss and how we rose up and came back to carry on our football program, honoring those that we lost after the East Carolina game. We will never forget those on that fateful flight and everyone in the state of West Virginia holds their memories in our hearts. Thank you again to all that came here to tell our story. We are humbled, we are grateful……We Are Marshall!!
