Janet Jackson Weight Loss

Janet Jackson Weight Loss

(Bigger pictures in the gallery!) Janet Jackson, newly svelte after losing 60 pounds, says she gained weight for a role in the upcoming movie "Tennessee," which she ultimately had to pass on because of her new album. "They (the producers) wanted to see me in a different light, as a heavier woman," the 40-year-old singer, who weighed about 180 pounds at her heaviest, tells Us magazine in an issue on newsstands Friday.

"The timing didn’t quite work with trying to finish my album, and unfortunately I wasn’t able to do the film. (The role went to Mariah Carey) So I found myself having to take this weight off a lot quicker than I had planned." Jackson says she packed on the pounds by eating whatever she wanted."`Ooh, that looks good, give me that whole slice of cake!’ That was the fun part," she says. "(Eventually) I would look in the mirror and I wouldn’t recognize myself."

The 5-foot-4-inch Jackson says she got back into shape in four months by eating "nice, balanced meals" and working out with a trainer. Her longtime boyfriend, music producer Jermaine Dupri, was a motivation. "I’ve never had someone love me for me, so unconditionally, the way he does, regardless of my size," she says. "He was never any different toward me."

When asked about reaction to her plus-size body, Jackson says, "People didn’t treat me differently to my face, but I’m sure they had their whispers behind my back. But I didn’t feel bad about myself at all. It was part of my job."

Her latest album, "20 Years Old," is slated for release Sept. 26.

"I feel good," she says. "It wasn’t until I saw a picture of myself, just recently, actually, that I thought, `Wow, you really did lose a lot of weight!’" She adds: "For now, it’s just nice for me to get back down to where I feel more comfortable with me."  [AP]

WTF.. 60 lbs in 4 months? I only managed to lose 8 lbs in th last two month! Pfft. ::jealous::

  • filipinaprncs

She is airbrushed like everyone else………don’t believe the hype, people.

  • notsosure

Who knows? Maybe the weight was put on for some movie role, I just find it hard to believe that her PR people would let her promote a new cd looking the way she was.

  • Charles

I’m proud of Janet Jackson for losing all that weight. She looks absolutely gorgeous! Can’t wait till her new CD comes out.

  • Jen

60 lbs in 4 months isn’t safe for anyone and chances are she’ll gain most of it back. Plus, what’s up with the way she’s promoting her weight loss? It looks more like she’s trying to whore her new album out then to actually be proud of dropping an insane amount of weight at once.

  • Justin

Jen, she doesn’t even mention the album at all in the interview. All she talks about is how she gained/lost the weight. In fact, she’s been pretty hush-hush about her album this whole time. But she needs to learn howo to find a weight and stay at it to be healthy

  • bmorebelieveit

to filipinaprics… they can’t airbrush 60 lbs away

To lose 60 pounds in 4 months you’d have to burn about 1720 more calories a day than you consume, so it can be done without pills, surgery or airbrushing, but you’d have to spend at least 3 hours working out EVERY day of that four months. This is assuming that you don’t increase your calorie intake, which would be hard because you’d be ravenous and would need extra fuel to get you through these workouts. In short, it can be done, but you’d need a trainer to work with you every day and an on-call dietician/chef. It could be that her weight loss is real, but its not realistic for people with full time jobs, kids, etc. It’s part of her job to look good, so it makes sense for her to devote herself to weight loss full-time for four months, but for most people losing 8 pounds over 2 months while meeting all your other obligations is excellent progress.

She had such an awesome body before, those muscles were still there under the flab. Losing weight is not rocket science — burn off more than you take in. With lots of cardio, which, if she has a CD coming up means she’s dancing for videos and probably an upcoming tour by next year, she can lose those pounds by getting back to small, sensible meals. Bodies have memory — I can gain weight quickly, but if I’m exercising every day and not overeating, it goes away quickly, too. For Janet, who has a supremely fit body under the flab and lots of muscle and flexibility, all she had to do was get back to her regular routine and the fat will melt away.

#10 LapinBravo! Good post. That’s something that a lot of people miss — losing weight is a celebrity’s JOB. Then again, a lot of people have cubicle jobs where they sit all day. They sit in the car on te way to work, then sit at work, then sit on the way home, then sit in front of the TV or with kids doing homework, stand for a half hour making dinner, then sit. And for all this sitting, they eat three meals a day, and go to bed a couple of hours after a big dinner. Then they wonder why they are overweight. If you AREN’T working out three hours a day, you don’t need all that food! And three hours for a dancer really isn’t that much or if you are wanting to lose a lot of weight — I walk the dog for an hour a day and that’s not even a workout, just a warmup, and most workout tapes are an hour and that’s just to maintain being in shape. Demi Moore was working out five hours a day for GI Jane, so I can see Janet doing that to lose 60 pounds and get ready to make videos for an upcoming CD. But yeah, if you already have a job, just eat a lot less and do a half hour before work and a half hour after work. Also, don’t take a full lunch hour to eat and sit. Take a walk.

  • Rachel

ahh..the janet we know is back.

  • JanetFan

Didn’t anybody read that she gained all that weight for a movie? She even explained how she gained all the weight, which is basically eating all that she wanted, so if you suddenly stop eating 10000 carbs a day, you will start losing weight.

  • Huxley

#12, i get the bus into work as it is far too early for me to walk into work, but i always walk home – takes me about an hour, but i feel much better for it, and quite often i arrive home sooner than my housemates who get a ride home due to all the traffic. i have a job where i sit all day, and it does breed laziness, so this is another reason i walk. i dont want to get unfit.

  • ya know

Janet is notorious for plastic surgery. I’m sure that had a BIG part in her "transformation" It stinks how she tries to make it sound like it was all due to her dedication to "eating less and working out more" !

  • remember da truth

#15 HuxleyI love walking, don’t you? It feels good, you actually get to see your neighborhood, and it’s low impact. You don’t have to get all sweaty and yet your heart rate rises. I feel it in my butt if I walk uphill, and it works out all the kinks after sitting a long time. I’ll bet you’re in a better mood when you get home than your housemates, too!

she looks really good….I wish I could be so disciplined like her.

  • Marlisa

This is called LIPOSUCTION. Don’t be fooled!

  • brashgirl

Well she looks great…but if I had a personal trainer and a personal chef, I’d look that good too.

  • iraqi-girl1

Big girls, stop hating. If she did extreme dieting with pills or major surgery that’s her business. The fact is she did something for herself. Maybe she is falsely promoting exercise; however if she is that should be motivation for you all to do something with yourselves. If this applies to you deal with it, if not take it with a grain of salt and get a life!!!!!

  • hf

i just want a celebrity who has recently dropped a ridiculous amount of weight in a ridiculously small amount of time to come out in the spotlight and say, "oh man this diet sucks. gimme some freakin’ pizza!"

  • PopSoup

See what having money can do for you! Hard work yes – paying to have your meals cooked for you and a personal trainer, yes!

  • remember da truth

#20 MarlisaLiposuction doesn’t give you muscles like that. She is so toned — only exercise and regularly ifted weights or use of those muscles can do that.#24 Popsoup#21 BrashgirlJealous much? Stop making excuses — of course if you have money and time you could have a cook and a personal trainer. But ask yourself how many hours are spent in front of the TV? What do you do on your lunch hour? Do you take stairs or the elevator? Do you walk to the video store or post office or to the grocery store for small items? Do you bike, hike, swim, dance on the weekends? I’m sorry but I have overweight friends who make comments like yours all the time — right before meeting for cheesecake, or eating a meal larger than necessary. I had one friend who was shocked at the size of the Glad bags made for snacks — so small!! They are for SNACKS and she was amazed that they weren’t so much bigger. Then she moaned that a half hour on the treadmill three times a week wasn’t doing anything for her fat ass. Gee, I wonder why….Everyone has 24 hours in the day. How you use them is your choice, and the foods you put in your mouth are your choice. Don’t blame celebrities who work out and eat right for your weight troubles.

  • Georgia

Just me being suspicious, they may have thought Janet was so vain she wouldn’t do it. She proved them wrong. My suspicions are they probably wanted Mariah anyway.I don’t trust that movie world scene. But Janet is one confident chick. You go girl!!! I am looking forward to the Tour.

  • Simone

Maybe it was all a publicity stunt in the first place. Reports have stated the possibility the the "fat Janet" was a plant to plunge her back into the spot ight on a more positive note. Think about it.

  • K one

It’s all about the steroids. Interestingly steroids are used in about a 3 month cycle. And to get that type of muscle definition on a woman, after losing 60lbs., and in only 4months.. Steroids. hey, that is all the rave in gyms throughout the country. More power to her.

  • Fresca

alright……she MUST have had some sort of plastic surgery to correct all the stretch marks she would have……60lbs is a lot! I realize it’s all airbrushed in the pics and i know it’s possible to loose that amount of weight (although an intense and healthy weightloss is about -2lbs per week) but there are definately repercussions to gaining that much weight and then losing it all so quickly. Think of the stretch marks!AND what about this Mariah Carey issue…the movie role went to her? How come she didn’t have to gain 60lbs? Props to janet for taking off the weight whichever way she did it. The obesity epidemic makes me sick to my stomach.

  • ann

paki nyo ba…let her gain and lose as much lbs as she wants! heheh… This issue is to her advantage because she gained a lot of publicity and buzz, which is good for her career…we, on the other hand, wasted out precious time nosing on others business.

  • #31

#19–You CAN NOT have 60 pounds of fat liposuctioned! U would die on the table! It is so very possible to lose 60 pounds in 4 monts and it is not unhealthy to do. I lost 30 pounds in 2 onths by running daily, lifting weights and consuming 1500 calories a day. People trip me out speaking on subjects they have no expertise on. If you haven’t lived it, stop speaking on it. That goes for everyone on here talking about airbrushing, lipo, pills and so on and so forth. The boday can do whatever we want it to. You just have to have the WILLPOWER to get it to where u want it to be.

  • fresca

#31…..i agree that it is all very possible and whatnot (and btw: congrats on the incredible weightloss) I myself have lost 20 lbs in 3 months with dedication and will so i guess we are all different. Bottom line people are jealous and therefore skeptical (i know i was when i saw those abs -wowza!)

  • jessica

to be honest with you i dont think janet was ever fat to begin with.i thing those pictures in the tabloids were someone else.and realisticlly how is she gonna still have a "perfect six pack after all the weight she gained.and its all in time for her new cd isn’t that ironic.lol

  • qweennicey

gurl i need some help lossing 129 pounds in 2 and a haft mounths can you help me i am 13 and i my weight is 244 can you help a sista out and gurl you look goood to be 40 years old

  • damary

janet did not loose any weight naturally, fake.. fake… that is just plastic surgery or photo tricks.. most celebrities used that type of method to loose weight .. it seems that they don’t have time to do normal things like us.. anyway natural beauty is the best.. that’s my point of view..

  • Carla

Janet Jackson looks wonderful and i’m happy that she’s happy. She doesn’t owe anyone any kinds of explanations…No matter how she lost the weight it is off and that’s that. People get on my nerves, the only thing you have to say is something negative. The difference between Janet is us is the money she has to pay for a personal trainer, a nutritionist, and the drive to be consistant. I’m proud of her and she looks amazing.

  • Alex

Janet Jackson looks good and everyone who speaks negative about her is SOOO jealous! All these comments just shows how people are so unhappy with their own lives that they have to HATE. TO ALL YOU HATERS, PLEASE stop critizing Janet. I bet half of you don’t even look good. Also, there are a lot of ignorant people posting comments. Why are you guys even using the computer. For those that have any knowledge in nutrition and exercise, it is possible for Janet to have her six pack under all the fat b/c she had a six pack BEFORE. Your muscles are always going to be there regardless of the weight you gain. Once you begin exercising, your body responds and burns off that extra fat revealing the muscles you had underneath, so please pick up a book on diet and exercise!!!! Everyone’s body is different, so if you get stretchmarks that doesn’t mean that someone else will develop them. It’s all in your genes and majority of people DO have strectmarks fat or skinny, they can be red, pink or a bit little lighter from your skin tone. It all depends. All the negative people….get a life, you’re all so narrow-minded, look the word up!!! JANET LOOKS GOOD AND SHOULD BE A ROLE MODEL FOR ANYONE TRYING TO LOSE WEIGHT!!!! I’M GLAD SHE’S BACK!

  • ShrinkingBooty

Janet looks great. I wish my body looked like hers. I have been struggling with my 100 lb weight gain over 6 years. She has inspired me to get my body back in shape, as I am 39 years old and would like to look that great when I turn 40.

  • JoAnne Heim

WOW! I am 37 I would like to look that hot when I turn 40 . I’d like to how she did it so I can apply it to my lifestyle

  • bunny

Am I the only one who thinks she was hiding a pregnancy?

  • Kim

She looks great, but people must realize that this is a part of her job.She works out,not to mention she is a dancer (just watch her concert in Hawaii). If all you did was workout, dance, and have a personal chef cook you healthy low-cal meals, you could do it too. I say kudos to you Janet. I only hope I look half as good as you when I turn 40!

  • Dainty

I can loose 15 LBS in a month. BUT That’s just me. With only diet and exercise(1hr cardio daily). I shed pounds that fast..some people can, some people can’t. It all depends on your genes and your frame.

  • angie

i agree with the person that said these pictures were airbrushed. where’s the tatoo of minnie & mickey that has always been on her lower hip

  • Melissa

I say congrats on the weight loss. Just the fact that she was able to lose that amount of weight in four months is motivating. Yes, she is a star and has more available tools, but exercise and eating right are both pretty universal. Your "average" person may not be able to lose 60 lbs in 4 months, but if you follow a good diet and exercise program, you will lose weight. About the airbrushing, most magazines do airbrush, notice Janet does not have any blemishes or sign of removed hair under her arms, but it is pretty impossible, if not ridiculous, to attempt to make someone look 60lbs smaller. Of course someone would want some airbrushing if the entire world is looking at them!

  • L

I THINK THAT JANET DID LOSE THE WEIGHT IN A NATURAL, SAFE, HEALTHY WAY. HOW COME WHEN IT IS SOMEONE BLACK, THEY HAD TO HAVE LIPO, BUT DEMI MOORE (FOR A MOVIE) , OR MADONNA (WHO LOOKS GREAT AND IS OLDER NOW) ARE NOT ACCUSED OF HAVING PLASTIC SURGERY? JANET IS RICH, SUCCESSFUL, AND BEAUTIFUL. YES, SHE HAS HAD A FEW THINGS DONE, BUT SHE ALWAYS LOOKS FIT, NOT SICK AND THIN LIKE SOME OUT THERE DO. i DO NOT BELIEVE THERE IS ANY PLASTIC SURGERY LIKE LIPO, I BELIEVE SHE DID IT WITH A LOT OF HELP AND STILL HAS CURVES. AND FOR A WOMAN OF FORTY, SHE LOOK PRETTY DARN GOOD! IF I HAD THE MONEY AND RESOURCES, I WOULD LOOK HOW I WANTED TO LOOK TOO. CELEBRITIES LIVE TOTALLY DIFFERENT LIVES THAN REGUALR WORKING PEOPLE, SO IT IS TOTALLY FEASIBLE THAT SHE IS ABLE TO DEDICATE TIME AND EFFORT TO GETTING BACK ITO SHAPE SO QUICKLY, AND LIKE SOMEONE ELSE MENTIONED, SHE HAS MUSCLES UNDERNEATH, AND THE BODY DOES REMEMBER. CONGRATS TO HER FOR PROMOTING HEALTH AND FITNESS!

  • KAY LYN

MADONNA HAS AN INTENSE WORK OUT REGIMEN AND DIET, SHE IS OLDER AND LOOKS GREAT. NO PLASTIC SURGERY. JANET IS FOCUSED, DEDICATED, WORKED OUT AND LOOKS GREAT. NO RECENT PLASTIC SURGERY TO ALTER HER LOOKS. I BELIEVE SHE DID IT NATURALLY. AND I ADMIRE HER STRENGTH AND DEDICATION. (FOR A MOVIE, OR FOR HERSELF)

    very good janet
