Angelina Jolie Serves Sikh

UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador Angelina Jolie has been on a two-day visit to the Indian capital, listening to Sikh children playing religious music at the Khalsa Diwan Welfare Society in New Delhi, an organization run by Afghan refugees of the Sikh faith for other refugees. She chatted with students – some of the 9,500 Afghan refugees under the direct care of the UN refugee agency in India — about their passion for learning English and computer skills.

Angelina also made time to talk with a refugee woman from Myanmar in the one-room home she shares with her three children in New Delhi. The woman, one of the 1,750 refugees from Myanmar (formerly known as Burma) under the care of UNHCR in India, told Jolie that they had fled after her husband was arrested by Burma’s military government.

Angelina Jolie for UNHCR

NEW DELHI: Giving papparazi the slip, Hollywood diva Angelina Jolie on Saturday spent some time with Sikh Afghan and Myanmarese refugees in the capital.

Accompanied by her five-year-old son Maddox, Jolie arrived in the capital just past noon and drove to the refugee camps run by the Khalsa Diwan Welfare Society and UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

Clad in a white T-shirt and blue jeans, Jolie, the UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador and her son listened to Sikh children playing religious music at the Welfare Society run by Afghan refugees of the Sikh faith.

She chatted with the students among some 9,500 Afghan Sikh refugees under the direct care of UNHCR and was appreciative of their passion for learning English and computer skills.

The Hollywood star, in India for shooting a film ‘A Mighty Heart’ on the life of slain Wall Street Journal correspondent Daniel Pearl, also visited a woman refugee from Myanmar in her one-room home where she lives with her three children.

The woman, one of the 1,750 refugees from Myanmar, told Jolie that they fled after her husband was arrested by the military government in Myanmar, a press statement issued by UNHCR said.

“I am grateful to the refugee families who spent time with me today and shared their stories. They are remarkable, courageous people, it quoted Jolie as saying.

Jolie, on a two-day visit here, will be meeting Minister of State for External Affairs Anand Sharma on Sunday.

Jolie will be accompanied by UN officials at the meeting with Sharma and the discussions are expected to centre around issues relating to refugees and children.

I just posted this on the other thread, so sorry for repeating myself.

    Hiya BAMZS Fans!

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Get out there and see Babel. I saw it with a sold out crowd last night and the movie is incredible. I don’t want to give too much away since many of you are still waiting for Babel to reach a theater near you. What I will say is that Brad does DESERVE a Best Supporting nomination as well as a couple of other actors in Babel. But lets talk about Brad. The man can express more meaning with his eyes than he can with dialogue. I felt every emotion his character Richard felt – frustration, regret, helplessness, love for his wife and children and the realization that he is the last line of defense for his wife and the fear that he might fail her.

Brad became Richard. Soon after his first scene I forgot that I was watching BRAD PITT and to me that is the test of a great actor. When you watch an actor on screen do you see the actor or do you see the character? Do you see the tabloid stories or do you see the character?

The movie is a tearjerker so bring the Kleenex. IMO if you walk out of the theater unaffected by this movie then you have a heart made out of stone. At the end the audience applauded. I intend to see Babel again sometime this week. I have a couple of friends who couldn’t make it last night and I’ve promised to go with them. Believe me, if I didn’t think the movie was that good, there is no way (Brad or no Brad) would I ever pay to see it again at the theater. The movie is worth the additional $10.

i think angelina jolie is a wonderful person, she is an excellant role model and such a caring mother.

  • bdj

Thanks Just Jared. I am glad that AJ made time for her UN work. She looks great and she is dedicated to her UN and humanitarian work. I am so glad that she took Maddox along so that he can interact with the other children and appreciate his mother’s work.
Best wishes and safe travel to BAMZS.

  • NaNa

    I love the pictures.
I sort of wondered when and where her next UNHCR work would take place.
Angie has so many things to do, and she looks very happy doing them.

Maniston, thanks so much for the review. My sister saw it last night too. She is NOT a big Brad fan, but she also said, that he was very good, as were the other actors. Her showing was sold out too. GOLDEN GLOBE nominations, I believe come out 12/12 or 12/14…….One of the first major wards, of the upcoming season……….

Angie’s first post Shiloh, UNHCR trip!

  • the tempest

Angelina the saint, I love her so much.

  • NaNa

    Oh, I forgot to mention.
Angie wanted her children to see how less fortunate people live so that her children would not be spoiled and also grow up to support every people who need helps. I think it is a great idea. Last summer I took my child to Indonesia to help earthquake victims. Patents tend to spoil their children with lots of materials and too much comfort, so I think it is really good idea for children to see there are people who are suffering. It is good education for children so that they should be less whiny and unselfish.

Good for her!, Good, for them! Her first post Shiloh, UNHCR fieldwork!

  • Courtney

    She looks so GORGEOUS!

    God Bless her!

  • Phie

she really is beautiful inside and out. I love her that is why God always bless her and her family because of her good heart.

  • Katy

I hate those people who insult Angelina and Brad Pitt and their efforts in impoverished countries. People who insult them must evaluate themselves and how much THEY do for the world! I have so much admiration for this woman.

  • Phie

–im also happy knowing she’s accompanied by her five-year-old son Maddox whenever going to the refugee camps, its like for Maddox to be aware in the life he have until Angie came in his life. and of course if he grew up doing this things with Angie sooner or later he will do it in his own…God bless them! Jared thank you for this thread!

  • libra 21

What a heart of gold! I love you too Angie and God be with you.

So glad you enjoyed Babel Maniston — loved your post on it — the entire movie and all of the cast is so amazing – which is why I didn’t come back from TIFF solely raving about Brad only. It’s impossible to see this film and not recognize what a collective effort it is. Don’t get me wrong, Brad is wonderful, and deinitely deserving of any honors that come his way….but I felt in the spirit of the movie, and of Brad FOR the movie, being the generous actor he is and how proud he is to be a part of it – the praise should belong to everyone in connection with the film. Gael was brilliant, as were the children from the village who fired the shots, as was the deaf mute teen, but the performance that had me by the throat and wouldn’t let go, is that of the Mexican nanny – it was torturous, and a tour de force.

Switching gears – as I said in the last thread….those photos of Angelina are simply stunning. It’s true what Wyclef said about her being at her most beautiful when she’s in the field.

  • guli

Man you guys are the best. JJ Audrey MANY THANKS :-)

She is the real deal, what you see is what you get with our Angel….

OK the game isn’t over yet BBL…..

Again thanks for the new thread JJ and Audrey……………….

  • kiki

It1s amazing that she finds time for her UN work too. I would never say she is a saint, but she is definitely doing and giving much more than average people can. God bless her.

  • guli

Tijen, ell and Med check this one out. Crap i listened to this since I was 18…..

Ell use this song if you can :-)

OK Tijen, Med another one from my brother

  • Passing Through

It’s great to see Angie getting back into the field with the UNHCR. I also think it’s great that she took Maddox on the trip with her. Even if he didn’t go to the refugee camp with her, they’ll be together in the evening for some one-on-one time like the old days. Plus, the little guy is probably missing Brad so it’s great the Angie took him with her rather than leaving him back at the hotel in Pune.

  • Alexkziel

    Angie’s smile warms my hearth.

Hello BAMZERS!!! – thanks JJ for this new thread!!!

  • Kearnie

guli’s a chemist> yawn – why do I get the feeling this is Ritzygal.

saw her at requesting stuff that I am sure she is going to use here to post her in such a passive agressive manner a la her idol.

Beside, the REAL GULI has funny smilies which makes her so much sincere and nice. Certainly not zzzz as the above poster.

  • ell

Guli is that your first stalker ^^

  • Yesenia

AJ & BP are the most powerful, wonderful, beautiful celebrities I have seen. I admire them deeply for what they do together as a family and for the world. God bless them and protect them always.

  • Kearnie

    thanks for the pictures.

If there is one thing that we can all agree on is that Maddox is seeing a heck of alot of things at such a young age. More so that most kids here at that age and certainly more than he would were he a member of the daycare center society. Might as well enoy it while he can.

Here is hoping the same is experienced by Zahara and Shiloh in 2-3 yrs. Sleep is ok for now.

    Anyways, where is waldo?

  • kidi

guli’s a chemist? yawn—-Do you have kids? Doubtful.

I see the loosers can’t attack her UN work, so now they are attacking her feet…

  • bamzs 4-ever

Thank you Jared and Audrey for the new thread and pictures! I love how Angie could still have time to do her UN work too. She and Brad are really being efficent. Great family!!!

  • Phie

I can say why she is just wearing jeans, barefoot and no pedicure. sometimes you have to put your self n other peoples shoes and do you think refugees will be happy seeing your feet so good and theirs are not?! I dont think so… Angie doesnt care what she looks like when going to refugee camps she doenst even put make-up. Thats what i liked about her so much. God bless! :)

just checkin’ out the site. angelina is way hot but why is she barefoot, dude?

Man you really don’t know other cultures do you? Some cultures like mine when you enter my house you don’t wear your shoes. It’s a sign of disrespect if you wear your shoes all over my house. For a house of one room, that is also the place where they eat, sleep, pray, where their children do homework, play etc. I have lived in a one room house before and anyone who came and didn’t take their shoes off, we never invited them again!!!

Just respecting Hindu customs …. I guess.

  • bamzs 4-ever

I would be intimidated to talk to someone who is beautiful, well groomed, dresses well and rich because I don’t feel they would relate to my situation. So if she were to visit refugees with full makeup on, manicures done and in a Gucci dress, I don’t think she could get anything done. I love how she can forget about all of the Hollywood stuff and do it is so admirable to me. I love her for that. I can’t see anyone else in Hollywood doing that.

Hello All, thanks Jared for the new thread and the pics of Angie, she looks great, and is so dedicated to her UN work and what she believes it.

BTW: I just got back for watching Babel, and let me say that it was FANTASTIC, I love every part of it, there was sadness, happiness, it was so emotional and I cried. Brad was INCREDIBLE as Richard, it is the best I ever seen him in a movie, he played the part of Richard to perfection, I am telling you guys that man need to be nominated for an OSCAR and he needs to win it; and Cate was GREAT. You guys better go and see Babel, it is worth the money. Babel is the best movie I have seen in a long long time. Everybody in Babel was wonderful, they all need a fantastic job. I am going to see it again

  • Amaya

“Me Again” if you’re here, thanks for commenting on my fic! For those who missed in the last thread, I’ve added chapter 2 to my Jon and Angie fanfic.

How was the crowd in your theater? What was their reaction? Is it full?

  • ritzygal

What’s this? More false accusations? And I got here just in time, too. Sorry, kids, i’m not ‘yawn’ although I am very sleepy. Excuse me while I yawn….

Ok. This site has not loaded for me since this morning so, no tis not I who has riled you all up today. I haven’t been here.

However, having said that, I can see how you would think it’s me because it definitely sounds like something I would say. And not only that, I agree with Yawn. She does leave Z behind an awful lot and Shi even more. But, hey, whatever works.

OFF TOPIC: I’m half watching Singin in the Rain right now. I never understood why people think it’s the best Gene Kelly movie. An American in Paris is SOOO much better.

I’d be curious to know what your opinion is of this incredibly important topic is: An American in Paris or Singin in the Rain?

  • julia

thanks Alexanderina for your review. … :)
I can’t wait to see it, one more week..
I’m so glad you liked it. sounds so compelling, crossing fingers for oscar time!
    Yay, so excited.

I have to say, I check in daily to see the new Pics of Ange and Brad on JJ, and as allways they are so inspiring and incaptivating ( two beautiful people inside and out) I trully admire both of there admiration and humbleness. I don’t usually post a reply, but do enjoy reading all of BAMZ regulars (so to speak..) YOU ALL ARE AWESOME!!! So positive and with much heart felt emotion. It just shows how much there FANS adore them. Most important you “know who you are” keep me up to date with this mountain moving couple!

the crowd were very into Babel, it was very quiet in the theater, everybody were so into the movie, we did not want to miss anything, the theater was not full, but there were alot of people and the reaction after the movie were loud clapping and appreciation for a movie that was done beautifully and can teach us so much.
