2006′s The Good German draws upon 1942′s Casablanca

Synopsis: Based on the novel by Joseph Kanon, The Good German takes place in the ruins of post-WWII Berlin, where U.S. Army war correspondent Jake Geismar (George Clooney) becomes embroiled with Lena Brandt (Cate Blanchett), a former lover who is trying to escape her past in the aftermath of the war. Intrigue mounts as Jake tries to uncover the secrets Lena may be hiding in her desperation to get out of Berlin. Tully (Tobey Maguire), a soldier in the American army motor pool assigned to drive Jake around the city, has black market connections that may be Lena’s way out – or lead them all into even darker territory.

Really looking forward to seeing this one. Love the second to last still of Cate & George under the umbrella, awesome picture. Thanks Jared.

  • chanelconspiracy

The book was total crap, I hope the movie is better because I love Cate Blanchett. And Clooney. And Soderberg.

  • Meow

I saw a screening of this movie and it’s HORRIBLE. Slow, drawn out, boring and bad acting all over. Sad really

  • ntt

I’ll go see any film by Cate Blanchett.

George Clooney will NEVER, and I mean NEVER be on par with Bogie or Cary Grant, however much he wants to be.

He plays the same role over and over again.

    ^^

Finally, some with some sense. I heard the early reviews are mixed. Love Cate but don’t like Clooney no matter how much he tries to come off as an actor with substance. It’s always the same dang smirk or grim look on his face.

  • Bohemian_me

I LOVE both Cate Blanchett and George Clooney; can´t wait to see this movie.
And Clooney isn´t playing the same roles over and over again; have you ever seen “Good Night and Good Luck”? Or “Syriana”? He´s a great actor and even if he played the same roles over and over again he would be a great actor; Al Pacino often plays similar roles and no one says that he isn´t good because of that.

    Oh I can´t stand George…he´s so fake.
He should get himself a wife and kids already!

I mean, it was funny being single and all- but he´s 43 now- that´s not funny, but pathetic.

  • INSIDER

George Clooney is so overrated to me. His acting hasn’t improved that much since Facts of Life…

And Toby McGuire? It’s like watching a bolgone sandwich deliver lines…can he open his mouth more than half an inch?

The only saving grace is Cate Blanchett.

  • Lara

I’m not sure about the film but the poster is rad!

  • Rinna

I so want to see this movie! Tobey and George, it looks so mysterious and interesting. I’m sure it’s great!

  • claire booth luce

Who cares?! Gonna bomb like all his films.

  • Bohemian_me

    To JJ:
And George Clooney can´t? So what´s your idea of a great actor? Please, tell me – I´d really like to know…

  • Bohemian_me

Oh sorry – your “name” is JJJ

  • remember da truth

George’s films have not bombed. Almost all have made money. He just doesn’t do the adolescent shoot-em-ups.
As for Tobey, I like him but his voice always cracking gets to me.

I have a problem with people saying Clooney is pathetic because he doesn’t settle down (settle) for a wife and kids when that’s what everyone else does but he doesn’t really want to. So what? Most married people are unhappy, and a lot of people with kids are afraid to admit they really wish they hadn’t gone that route (they love the kids they now have but if they did it over they wouldn’t want to). At least he’s honest, unlike some people (cough Anuston cough), and is very up front about his wanting to remain single. He does not cheat on women, he moves on. If a woman who wants a family is dating him, SHE’S pathetic, not him. He has never led anyone on, and has been married before, so he knows it’s not for him. Good for him for being self-aware and not just following the crowd so others can feel better about their own bad choices.
