Dakota Fanning: 'Cinderella in Sneakers'

Dakota Fanning was shot as fairy-tale characters Rapunzel, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, and Little Red Riding Hood by photographer/fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld for the January 2007 issue of Vanity Fair. Here’s a little story that Dakota shared on shooting as Rapunzel: “Karl was like, ‘Put your finger on the spindle,’ and I was like, ‘O.K., I’ll put my finger on the spindle.’ And he was like, ‘We need some blood,’ because she pricks her finger on the spindle, and I was like, ‘O.K.’ So we had this red cheek gel–blush. So we put the ‘blood’ on my finger, and I was on this chaise, and it was so fun. It was nice and relaxed.” Read the full article by clicking the thumbnails below! Here’s the introduction of the article:

She’s the kind of actress who gets thrown a surprise birthday party by Robert De Niro, loves killing time with the grips and can’t wait for the next Harry Potter book. As Dakota Fanning brings to life Fern Arable, heroine of the children’s classic Charlotte’s Web, Karl Lagerfeld puts the 12-year-old star in fairy-tale perspective, while Jim Windolf hears her modern-day Cinderella Jr. story.

Is is ok not to like that kid? I don’t like that kid, and the older she gets, the more she seems to irritate me but I don’t know why.

Jared… Love your site.. Come and check it out all the time. And I hate to do this. But isn’t it Fern instead of Gern in the movie Charlotte’s Web.. I have seen the cartoon and it says Fern.
    Hope you aren’t upset..
thanks again for all that you do.

Thanks for the catching that typo, Deborah!!! (:

Her pupils are totally dilated in the 3rd photo… either it’s a photoshop job gone awry or she’s already hitting joints at the ripe old age of 12!! Lol!!!

  • Anon

    hey jared,

love your site…i hope dakota doesnt fall prey to the child star curse…

and ummm, isn’t it sleeping beauty the one who pricked her finger (rapunzel was the one with the long hair)

  • sally

it is truly okay to not “like” the kid. Our family (all 6) feel the same way. She is right there in the bucket with Haley (sp) Joel Osment, “Home Alone” kid…Maulkey caulky…whatever! …Nails on a chalkboard…

  • kmillz

omg! maybe i wasn’t paying attention but when i scrolled down quickly , it looked as if she was in a coffin. i almost lost my breath, i’m not even kidding

  • Domidroid

Eeeuuuuu, Something more than vaguely JonBenet-ish about that Sleeping Beauty shot. Anemic-looking little thing. Looking forward to her tell-all book about her pediatric eating disorder in 5 years.

  • Aysla

    Wow. People are really vicious.

I think Dakota is adorable. She’s stable and down-to-earth, and she acts her age. The pictures are so cute =).

  • selma

um…. her head is too big
as long as she doesn’t scream in movies, she’s ok.

  • mischa

you’re right aysla, these scumbags have nothing but hatred. Spare the kid will ya? She’s famous, rich and a pretty damn good actor! And what are you people? ha? ha? no wonder you guys spend your time lurking on blogs coz you got nothin better to do. dirtsuckers!

  • squid

and what are *you* doing here mischa?

DF’s talented alright, but still creepy hah.

  • Chloe

THe 3rd pic doesnt even look like her.. its so photoshopped. I think she’s getting uglier with age, people should start concentrating on Elle more.

  • Sallzie

Uh.. Dakota used to be that lil’ smart kid in movies..
    Now she’s a 12-yr-old nerd. Just not cute anymore…

  • MIchelle

I’m a little weirded out by this. Isn’t she a little young for us to imagine her as Sleeping Beauty waiting for true love’s kiss? This whole thing seems a little pervish to me.

  • Julianne

god, hollywood acts like she is the only kid actor!! i sincerely hope they take her out of the Secret Life of Bees movie because I will not see it if she is in it.

  • mischa

Squid, i’m pretty sure ur way creepier than DF! hahahahaha

  • Phil

wow! some people just can’t let anyone become famous without ripping them. my daughter was her foto double and stand in on taken and i found her to be one of the nicest, most polite kid i have ever had the pleasure to meet. onset….she was the comsumate professional, always smiling and always chatting with the entire crew. sorry people but she really is just like she is in her interviews

  • Victoriah Nichole Little

Great site, nice to see this article, but in your introduction, I believe you mean to say, “Here’s a little story that Dakota shared on shooting as SLEEPING BEAUTY…” Not Rapunzel. Don’t you remember your fairy tales? ;-)

  • mariane

Okay seriously, ENOUGH with Dakota Fanning ! There’s at the very list 5 pages about her !!
