OlderFilm Critics Weigh In, Wahlberg Wins
Celebrities were out in full force last night at the 72nd Annual New York Film Critics Circle Awards Gala at Supper Club in New York City — Leonardo DiCaprio, Matt Damon, Mark Wahlberg, Ryan Gosling (with sister Mandy Gosling), and Jennifer Hudson.
Marky Mark snagged the supporting actor honors for his role in Martin Scorsese‘s The Departed while Meryl Streep picked up best supporting actress for The Devil Wears Prada. Forrest Whitaker took home the best actor award for his role in The Last King of Scotland, while Helen Mirren picked up best actress for The Queen.

I heard that Jennifer Hudson did a fantastic job – did she win anything yet?
Jennifer did a fantastic job in the movie. At these awards she won best supporting actress. Everyone who has seen the movie says her acting is fantastic. She is being praised for her acting ability. No one held Beyonce from giving a powerful performance. She just has limited acting ability that is all. Also Jennifer had to gain 20 pounds for the role which she did. Whether one is big or not does not mean they are bad actresses… Think of Kathie Bates and Queen Latifah. Some people are so shallow it hurts.

i seen an interview with the director and with beyonce, and they both mentioned that beyonce didnt sing to her full potential, because her charactors voice in the movie wasnt as strong as the charactor that ms hudson was playing. i seen the play, and in the play effie’s voice is the strongest in the group. so yes obviously they couldnt have beyonce out sing her.
I am talking about Jennifers acting not her singing… She is a much better actress than Beyonce. I am basing this also on some of Beyonce’s other work. If you like her that is all good and dandy but the facts remain Jennifer did a better job of the acting in this movie. Good for Jennifer. No where does it say that if you are not anorexic you cannot act. If acting skills were based on weight then the Olson twins would both have Oscars by now right? Yeah right.

What I don’t understand is why Meryl Streep was on best supporting actress category. Is it just so it will be easy for her to win the award? Could somebody please explain.
Beyonce acting is so-so, nothing great. Jennifer has great acing skills. Jennifer is the one whose acting the critics are raving about.

Susie, I don’t have ANY feelings about Beyonce OR Jennifer, I am just telling it like it is, talent-wise for those two girls. Simple as that. The critics are raving about Jennifer’s performance thats the way it is, does not mean anybody dislikes anyone.

I am glad to see that the critics had the insight to pass out the hyped up performances of Brad Pitt and DiCaprio. Walhberg was actually deserving and so was Whitaker.
