You're Gonna Love Jennifer Hudson

Dreamgirls star Jennifer Hudson is featured in the February/March 2007 issue of Giant Magazine shot by photographer Mark Alesky. It’s Jennifer‘s first major entertainment magazine cover and she looks like a star! The Golden Globe winner speaks out on her weight and her “fight” with Beyonce. Check out some choice excerpts below:

  • On the rumored fued with Beyonce: “I’m too busy trying to enjoy my blessings to be dwelling in mess. It’s not about that. It’s supposed to be about enjoying it. But then again, when something is good, people are always gonna try to find something wrong with it and try to throw a monkey wrench in there somewhere. We support each other as much as we did on day one. I mean, come on! That’s Beyonce! We’d rather see people focus their attention on our work.”
  • On her size: “Look, I used to be a size 22. Now, I’m a size 12. When I go to Hollywood stuff, I’m the biggest girl there. And I could care less. I still feel sexy and pretty whoever I’m standing next to because when I’m out in the real world, I’m the size of the average woman. And there is nothing wrong with us. There’s something wrong when you’re just skin and bones. It’s not cute. I love my size, period…. You gotta be comfortable in your own skin! I’m comfortable in mine. I don’t have a problem with it at all. I work with a trainer these days—to tone, not to lose. This jelly ain’t going nowhere.”
  • On her love life: “My boyfriend is my childhood sweetheart. We’ve been together since 1999! It’s crazy. I’m the dreamer and he supports my dreams – always has. He’s happy to be my rock and let me fly. I think it makes more sense to date someone outside of showbiz. He is stationary, stable, a home base. I’m on planes, here and there and always on the go. It’d be a whole different story if he was moving around, too. Instead I have a patient, understanding man who’s there for me when I get home. He’s home to me.”

In the latest issue of Essence magazine, Jennifer Hudson shares about her Idol abuse she experienced: “On American Idol, you go through this mental thing; you’ve got to get yourself back together. You’ve been abused, misled and brainwashed to believe whatever they want you to think.”

You can download Jennifer Hudson‘s single “Over It” here (mp3). It sounds unfinished to me — hopefully it’s being reworked in the studio before it hits mainstream radio…

I’m crazy about her. I have a like/dislike attitude about Beyonce, but Jennifer I love. She’s the real deal. It’s like Diana Ross and Florence Ballard all over again accept this time, there’s a happy ending.

Good things really do happen to good people. She IS the real deal. When I watched hr on Idol, I knew great things were in store for her. She is beautiful inside and out and has a beautiful voice. I wish her the best in all of her endeavors and hope we see a whole lot more of her. To me, she is the new “IT” girl and one all of us can be proud of too!

I’m so glad to hear that Jennifer Hudson doesn’t feel the need to starve herself down to a size 2. The average dress size for a woman in the US is 12-14. So that makes her NORMAL. It’s the rest of HW and the fashion industry that’s living in a fantasy world.

love her.. LOVE!
her and america comeing into the spotlight.. FINALLY! real women!!!

awww! i’m so lovin’ her and America right now, the real “It” girls. Seriously!

I am so glad that finally the media is giving credit where credit is actually due. For so long women in the entertainment industry have been rated on their “talent” because of their appearance (read: Britney (in her prime), Rihanna, etc. are such great singers! No, they’re not, they just look good) and finally people are starting to realize what real talent is all about…TALENT not looks!!! Go J-Hud, you and America F. are my favies.

Although she is talented, but I do not have much respect for someone that goes around slamming the very show and production company which gave her first opportunity – Sorry the business can be tough, and the opportunity she had on American Idol many others would love to have been in, which is evident by the thousands that turn out for auditions each year. And for her to bad-mouth the American Idol experience is not only unprofessional but also shows that she is childish – and needs to grow up and be thankful for the experience she got – as it launched her career.

Where did she bad-mouth American Idol? I am not aware of that. I have only heard her say good things about AI , even when the tabloid entertainment shows are goading her and trying to get her to say something they can distort and run with, I have only heard her say good things….well except for when she laughs and says “Simon, look at me now…can you see me?” Again, that was after they goaded her into sending a “messsage” to Simon. It wasn’t mean-spirited, just jeering and funny. And Simon deserved it for didding her so badly.

Go Jennifer go… You look great and you are beautiful. Also most of the interviews I have seen she seems so relaxed and positive. Always positive which is great to see. She does not need to look like evryone else. She is great just the way she is…

eyes rolling... @ 02/01/2007 at 3:31 pm

Oh please, Jennifer Hudson is “average” only because the majority of Americans are overweight. I do have a problem with people who try to promote being overweight as “normal”. Not everyone who is a size 2 starved to get that way. I actually eat about 2000 calories a day, but I also work out. I am also well within the “normal” BMI for a woman my height.

I think Jennifer is an incredibly talented singer/actress, but she is promoting the normalization of an unhealthy body shape. Why are we applauding this?
