I have the highest amount of respect for this man.
I remember being a kid and mom dukes blasting U2.

  • tanique33

thanks jared. the speech should be heard.

  • Felicity

OMG Thanks for the pics !!! Yes, as you said Fug Face Maniston Bono is a true man He is for me an exemple. respect, generosity, natural !!! IS MY ONE !!!! MAKE BONO PRESIDENT !!!!

  • bdj

Thanks Just Jared. It was a great speech. Bono is doing great work in Africa in trying to eradicate Aids, poverty and debt and has inspired others such as Chris Tucker to help. Bono could be a Southern Minister with his fiery tone

  • shari

he PREACHED that day lol GO BONO!!!

  • checkers

i have always liked this man, before he even released Joshua Tree.. He too, is very inspiring and genuinely cares about poverty.. He is like Angelina Jolie Walks the walk!! One Love!!

  • Michelle

I was shocked by those pictures. My gosh Bono sure looks old and ugly since he shaved off all his hair. What a shame he used to be such a hottie. I hope he grows his hair back and gets plastic surgery.

But good for him winning the award.

  • angelah

    more power to him!

  • anon

Bono knows nothing about America or race relations really, he is just using it as a platform for self promotion.

  • tanique33

actually bono knows a great deal about world relations. he’s spent lots of time with presidents and various american leaders discussing many things. but perhaps you’ve met bono and found out first hand what he doesn’t know.

it AMAZESSSSSS me that the people who are really trying to make a difference in the world, get hammered. does he haircut really matter when he’s trying to save people’s lives?

he’s dedicated years and money to a cause. how many people throwing stones can say they’ve done as much?

  • cb

tanique, I couldn’t agree more with you! When celebrities use their fame for good – without mind you trying to advance their political ideology – they are labled self-promoters. I don’t get it, I just don’t get it. Here is a man who because of his MORAL IDEOLOGY has done more in recent years than ANYONE to galvanize not only this celebrity obsessed culture to focus on poverty and global AIDS, he has also galvanized multi-national businesses and global politicians. One might feel that how he goes about this is trivial, I would disagree, but to attack his motives is wrong.

  • http://justjared dina#1

I watched him last night and my respect for him grew. He and Angelina are just wonderful. Luv them both.

  • Queen Bee

The next prize this man should win is the Nobel Prize. He is just so cued in to what is going on in this world and is really making a difference! He just doesn’t donate, he actually galvanizes everyone from the ONE campaign to the Red campaign.

    Rock on Bono!

  • Cocobuttr

This man just transcends all boundaries!

  • BonoOneFan

Now, that’s whatcha call ‘A good white man.’

Boy, he wasn’t kidding when he said he was influenced by black preachers, because he sure preached that acceptance speech like a black preacher indeed.

Go on, Bono !! Keep educating the masses to the world’s problems that would eventually end up affecting us all.

As a foreigner, it’s too bad he can’t run for president of the U.S. because for my vote, he sure would give Hil, Barak and all them a run for their money.

  • 2much

“RACE RELATIONS” not “WORLD RELATIONS”. Bono doesn’t live in America or understand the NAACP (which itself is a racist organization, by the dictionary definition, I mean should there not be an Asian, White and Hispanic version?). They should get him off stage before he gets drunk and starts doing Martin Luther King impersonations, which is what he really really wants to do most of all.

  • Anna

Bono gave me goose bumps and chills and made me cry with love. This is what the world needs. People who inspire with their being. Love, understanding, humility, open-heartedness, compassion. I don’t understand why everyone isn’t feeling this. It feels much better than anger. Anger makes everyone sick. No matter how much one suffers, you don’t have to be bitter. It takes awareness and gratitude, devotion and faith. The whole world is suffering. Everyone has pain. Sometimes it is crushing. I pray for more connection from the heart, person to person. We can do it in our own lives with the people we touch and it will spread like a ripple in water when we throw a stone into the deep. Be the conscious one in every situation. Bring people up with Love. People may not want your Love, but give it anyway. It benefits all beings. Love is Truth. Love is God. God is Love. Many blessings to everyone’s ravaged heart. Hold the Light!

  • tanique33

2much, thanks so much for the history lesson. i feel so informed now. damn, i guess everything i know about lots of countries in the world, mean nothing now, seeing as though i live in the us.

    all that studying for nothing.

and DAMN that NAACP, for trying to help people of color. you should know as you go on about how racist the organization is, two white people started it. but perhaps they were racist against their own??

  • milo

Whatever if Bono wants to do real good, he should start an orphanage or school like Oprah did in South Africa. Just making public appearances and traveling isn’t enough.

Put your money where your mouth is..the millions you made from mediocre music, cds and touring.

    Show me the money Bono!!!!!

  • campy_dude

You need to shut the f***k up 2much!!!.
The NAACP has been in existence for years begining with when colored people were pretty much second class citizens in their own country. They have fought to ensure like their name suggests, the continued advancement of people of color and are as relevant today as GLAAD or any other organisation that strives for the equality of its members.

  • 2much

NAACP is by defintion racist. He is speaking against racism while at the same time promoting it. This is hypocritical. Equality is the issue, not advancement of one race in lieu of another. Notice I did not use expletives or aggression like an inverse slave driver.

  • tanique33

i’m not quite getting how advancement has to be about being the better race. but ok. whatever it means to you. i know my history, and what the NAACP stands for and has stood for. i guess the 2 people that started it wanted black people to better than their own. right. i’m out of this debate. believe what you will.

What the Fcuk are you talking [typing] about, you are truly a fcuking idiot. Bono has donated millions of dollars… He has giving away more money than you or any of your offspring will ever make. Bono has done more work than you obviously will ever know. You speak about orphanages and Oprah, Oprah and people like herself look up to him.

And to call his music mediocre says so much about you and your taste.

My brothers and sisters in Christ will know what I mean when I shout Glory!

tanique33, campy_dude, and [FFM] — Thank you for responding already. I will only add “The devil is a LIAR!”

  • Matt

Maybe he should run for President haha, He’d make the right changes for America and impact on the world. Though I’m not sure if he’s a citizen of Ireland still though.

  • Stella

Thanks Jared for posting the Bono speech. It was great.

    For 2much:
The NAACP was founded in 1902 for the advancement of rights for minorities including Native Americans, Asian Americans, African Americans, and Jews. It is not a racist organization. Can you honestly saw that these issues are not important or that we should no longer fight for equality for all people? You need to get your facts straight and stop sounding like Elisabeth Hasselbeck.

  • A Certain Smile

To those who want to know the truth and not the racist BS. The NAACP has always been open to everyone of any race for membership. The group started close to the turn of the 20th century to protest the lynching of black people by racist such as the ignorant poster. The organization invovled whites who were also against this racist behavior and hatred. Over the years the organization has included activism for all people of color in the US. Whites had and have the power and the government. They were not being lynched and terrorized therefore there was no need for a white activist group to protect whites. The group has always been to advance equality for people of color and not to suppress other people. Any one can go to their website and see the truth for themselves.

As for the racist “it” the organization you want is the KKK go there, you would be right at home.

  • milo

Oprah is smarter than Bono, she BUILT something in Africa. She is
adopting/mentoring 100 girls..all the way thru college, not just adopting here
    and there.

Bono goes around making speeches, starting websites, all PR work.

  • A Certain Smile

Bono gave a great speech. It is quite telling that the racist are attacking the white guy who got an NAACP award. The NAACP has always had white members. Who also had to fear for their lives. The organization was started due to the lynching of black people by racist. Whites were not the ones people raped, murdered and terrorized when the NAACP was started. But there have always been whites involved who worked to stop it. The NAACP includes all people of color in its activism. Now they also include poor people of any color. Those who want to know the truth can do the research themselves. Ignore the ignorance of the few sad and bitter losers.

  • A Certain Smile

Sorry for the double post, thought the other one had not uploaded:)

Thanks Jared for the Bono’s thread. I saw the award show and saw his speech, it was a great speech. Bono is such an inspiration, I adore him

to the opinionated and unaware comments that ask Bono to put his money/time where his mouth is…

Twenty million children have gone to school [last year] as a result of resources freed up from debt cancellation. “The world spoke out and the politicians listened,” said Bono, frontman for the ever-popular Irish band U2 and now an outspoken advocate for poverty eradication.

Bono, co-founder of (RED) The project, called “Red,” will market red-themed products from Converse footwear, Gap clothing and Giorgio Armani, as well as a red American Express card to be offered initially only in Britain, as of next month.

Products branded “Red” will include sports shoes, T-shirts and sunglasses — some produced in Africa, some with African materials. A slice of the revenue — numbers vary by company and product — will go to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.

The ONE Campaign is a non-profit initiative launched by Bono, the singer and social activist, to raise the voices of citizens to combat AIDS and poverty in Africa. The ONE campaign is a new effort by Americans to rally Americans — ONE by ONE — to fight the emergency of global AIDS and extreme poverty. The ONE Campaign is engaging Americans through a diverse coalition of faith-based and anti-poverty organizers to show the steps people can take to fight global AIDS and poverty. By joining the ONE Campaign, people will have the opportunity to make a difference, to commit themselves — one person, one voice, one vote at a time — to make a better, safer world for all.

Time magazine has named Microsoft chairman Bill Gates, Melinda Gates, and rock star Bono as its “Persons of the Year” for 2005. All three won the illustrious accolade for their tireless commitment to public health and poverty relief and for their personal sacrifices and involvement in humanitarian issues, despite having their own glittering and mega-successful careers. They collectively attempted to eradicate disease and poverty in Africa and alleviate the effects of the devastating calamities that too frequently plague the continent. Editor-at-large Nancy Gibbs said Time wanted to honor the three “for being shrewd about doing good, for rewiring politics and re-engineering justice, for making mercy smarter and hope strategic, and then daring the rest of us to follow”.

The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation is the world’s wealthiest charity. It has a whopping $29 billion endowment, about 60 percent of which goes towards public health needs. Irish rocker Bono helped persuade world leaders at July’s G8 summit to double aid to Africa to $50 billion a year by 2010 and erase the debt of the 18 poorest African countries. He also helped arrange the “Live 8” musical and charity extravaganzas with fellow campaigner and philanthropist Sir Bob Geldof. Bono told Time about Bill Gates’ business acumen and his ability to save and change lives. He said: “When an Irish rock star starts talking about it, people go, yeah yeah…But when Bill Gates says you can fix malaria in 10 years, they know he’s done a few spreadsheets.”

this is the tip of the iceberg.. What have YOU done to fight poverty, injustice, prejudice, world economic inequity ?????

    Bravo Bono

  • Meenakshi

EVERYTHING he does is about self promotion. Why doesn’t he give some of his own substantial fortune to Africa etc., instead of moving it to Holland for finanacially stategic tax reasons. He and his group are SERIOUSLY WEALTHY – seems like just another case of don’t do what I do, just do what I say! Now he thinks himself not only an expert on poverty but also on race relations. Get a life Mister and stick to your job of singing badly!

  • shitstirrer

If he wants to ban poverty then he should think about the country he came from. Ireland is one of the poorest countries in Europe. I do not appreciate his efforts, sucessful, to evade taxes in Ireland. Charity should begin at home.

  • GM

Shitstirrer: Ireland is one of the wealthiest countries in Europe. Per capita GDP is higher than UK, Germany, France or Italy. Try doing some research… idiot!
