Jolie To Arrive in Vietnam Tonight

If all goes according to plan, officials say Angelina Jolie could bring her newly adopted child home from Vietnam by the weekend.

Angelina is expected to arrive in Vietnam late Wednesday night and attend an adoption ceremony with Vietnamese officials on Thursday morning.

The 3-and-a-half-year-old boy Angelina is expected to adopt has been living at the Tam Binh orphanage (pictured) on the outskirts of Ho Chi Minh City.

WOW! I guess Vietnam really wants her to adopt from them. Very smart people. I’m so happy for the Jolie-Pitts AND their new brother/son. Thanks for the info Jared.

Jared are you saying this IS the little boy? Or you don’t know, and hence the vagueness? He looks a bit young to be 3 1/2.

I am a Jolie fan, and don’t know the background details of the adoption, but as a propsective parent in the middle of the adoption process, I do think it slightly unfair that this adoption seems to be fast-tracked. Yes she is a good person, but so are all of us wanting to start a family or add to our family, yet because we don’t have the celebrity or $$ power, we have to wait anything from 6 months to a few years after submission of our dossiers. According to reports her paperwork was only submitted in early March.

I know you’ll all say she has her paperwork in order because she’s been through the process, but if you ask families paperchasing #2 or more, it is still time consuming to update your paperwork as most of it is time sensitive anyway.

If Angelina is so interested in helping orphaned children worldwide find families, perhaps she could help setup some kind of “worldwide adoption community” where all prospective parents can be offered assistance in the process and help speed up the process for the children so they are not left in limbo for so long.

I wish the Jolie-Pitt family and their new addition all the best – I’m not trying to sound bitter, I just hate when celebrity or $$ influences a serious process such as adoption. If they were doing it for the betterment of the child, then all adoptions should be fast-tracked to help get the child in a stable home as quickly as possible.

I know one argurment is that it is harder to find families for older children but there are many parents on many of the adoption forums online that are desperately trying to bring their older children (up to 9 years old) home after months and years of waiting. That is not helping these children.

Angelina, please see what you can do to help our children come home sooner too!

Are you that beams w.i.t.c.h who told nypost that Angie ie not a hero in the adoption community.
Go speak to your local politician about this Angie doesn’t have to do anything for you or other people wanting to adopt.
Now go back to the adoption forums and tell them that. hurry!

    drainbreath Says:

From what I’ve read she put in her papers for adoption after giving birth last year which would mean a wait of 10 months???? How does that equate to faster than the time-frame you mentioned of 6 months+. I don’t think it should be fast tracked to less than 6 months for anyone

It may seem unfair, but if I were a Vietnam official I would do exactly the same thing. I would be on pins and needles until that kid was out of there. The chances that paparazzi would descend on my orphanage and wreak havoc are zero in non-celebrity cases. The chances that someone would walk into the orphanage, which probably has a dog and a man at the gate for security (if there even is a gate), and take that kid and hold him for a million dollar ransom are, I would say, much higher in this case than in all non-celebrity cases.

    Gds D Says:

I understand your frustration Adopter, but might foreign adoption agencies like the celebrity aspect and that is why ‘they’ fast- track the adoptions. We can’t say it is money that is hustling this along, as much as Angelina’s well-known position.

I am more suspect of someone like Sharon Stone who has three beautiful blonde blue-eyed babies in a relatively short time and without the benefit of a husband on the last two. The US is supposed to be extremely stringent in the adoption process, yet here she is with catalog perfect babies.

This will start another round of bashing for Angelina as the media will be searching for the relatives to embarrass her for having the access. It is a double-edged sword for her and she seems to walk into it bravely. As a parent of an adopted child, I don’t think I could handle the cruelty of the media swampfest that she faces everytime she adopts.

    gitane Says:

if, as people magazine reported, they’ve been in this process since soon after shiloh was born, the “fast-tracking” has been minimal.

and, just so you know, there is an initiative you can be a part of that will assist adoptive parents in going through the process faster. please write to your congressman if you want to speed up the international adoption process:

Helping Families Adopt Act, H.R. 628
Children’s Hope is requesting that each CHI family contact their
U.S. Congressman to co-sponsor and support the Helping Families Adopt Orphans Act, H.R. 628. When contacting your U.S Congressman, please include a copy

    HELP FAMILIES WITH INTERNATIONAL ADOPTION

    Dear Colleague:

We have recently reintroduced the Helping Families Adopt Orphans Act, H.R. 628, which will help families who are adopting orphans from foreign countries by making the application process simpler and less burdensome on families. Please join us in supporting this legislation.

The legislation would extend the validity of the I-171H “Notice of
Favorable Determination Concerning Application for Advanced Processing
of Orphan Petition” form to at least two years. The I-171H form is
issued by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service, an agency of the
Department of Homeland Security. The form is currently valid for 18
months, although the time needed to complete the adoption process has significantly increased over the last few years. This is because of
delays in the travel approval, visas for orphans, and additional
processing time to gain approval of orphan adoption by foreign governments.

The I-171H form has an application fee of $545, plus $70 per person for fingerprints. Several other forms are needed before receiving approval, including a home study to ensure the home is safe and stable, birth and marriage certificates, health and financial records, criminal background checks, and other information. The entire cost of international adoption can be thousands of dollars. If the I-171H form expires before the adoption is complete, a family must reapply and re-submit all applicable forms, fees and evaluations. This can be prohibitively costly for many hopeful parents.

The Helping Family Adopt Orphans Act is one simple change we can make to build strong families. To cosponsor this legislation please contact Jessica Friedman at 5-6316 in Rep. Wilson’s office, or Bradley Edgell at 5-6531 in Rep. Marshall’s office.

I’ve heard that this paparwork of the adoption was begun as soon as Shiloh was born.

Their spokefolk said in People (which is as good as it gets other than seeing one of them on tv) that the process began soon after Shiloh’s birth. From the first post-Shi interview (Anderson Cooper 360 on World Refugee Day) she has talked about the next adoption. Of course no details were going to be talked about until they got to the end (which seems to be here), but I think the JPs have planned this long and very carefully.

Unless you do “know the background details”, I think criticism is unfounded. None of us know the background details. I hope that your adoption goes well and swiftly (I’m an adoptive parent myself, so I am in your corner). If Viet Nam is moving quickly, it could be because they know that all eyes are on them, and they want to benefit from the apparent smooth sailing in their return to international adoption.

It is simply a fact of our world that people with certain advantages (money, connections, celebrity, beauty, athletic prowess, whatever) get more advantages. I don’t care that much about Sharon Stone, but I don’t see anyone asking how she managed to adopt three healthy blond, male infants — when many families find negotiating domestic adoption very difficult.

I hope that fans will simply be happy for the family and their new addition. I know I am.

    gitane Says:

vietname is moving quickly because 1) all eyes are on them right now–they don’t want to be malawi and 2) since china made adoption from there more prohibitive with new rules and qualifications, vietnam is looking to take their place with the highest international adoption rate.
