Ashley Judd Serves in India

Hollywood beauty Ashley Judd goes au naturel as she serves a community based women’s organization, Apne Aap, in New Delhi, India, on Monday morning.

Ashley, 38, is helping Apne Aap Women Worldwide, a community-based initiative of women in prostitution in the Khetwadi/ Kamatipura red light area of Mumbai in 1998.

Said Ashley, “I was emotionally, physically and sexually harassed in my youth and I can say truthfully that I’m grateful for my past experiences as I can now understand the problems of women better. Every time I reach out to another woman and try and do something for her, I heal that much more.”

Currently, Ashley has no filming projects on the horizon.

I can appreciate anyone doing good especially if they are sincere as Ashley. I had no idea about the abuse she sufferred from. Good to see that she can do something positve for others to overcome that.

are there any pictures of the Indian actress Sushmita Sen with her? She’s been dedicated to this cause too and I read she was suppose to meet Ashley.

I’ve read an article on Ashley last year and it turns out she’s been dedicating herself to humanitarian causes for many years (since her student days). She’s also very clued up on political, health and women’s issues and does indeed sound sincere about what she’s doing. Keep it up.

God bless Ashley Judd. More celebrities are now using their celebrity power to put the spotlight on the poorest, most vulnerable, underprivileged and underrepresented groups of people on earth. Props to Angie and Bono and many others working in the background for starting the trickling effects!

angelina jolie does deserve props for her work but she did not start the trickling effects. ashley judd has been a humanitarian for many, many years since she was still in college. she has been cited in magazines for her work in india and other places long before angelina even became aware of the global human crisis which according to her own words was in 2000 while filming lara croft.

OH PLEASE. isn’t this the same dumb ***** who went to rehab for perfectionism?

“They said, ‘No one ever does an intervention on people like you. You look too good. You’re too smart and together. But you (and Wynonna) come from the same family, so you come from the same wound.’ No one had validated my pain before,” Judd says.

Tabloid reports that the actress was being treated for eating disorders are not true, she says, “though I did take a look at my eating. Why wouldn’t I? I looked at everything else in my life under a microscope.”

Judd learned that she was using sleep to deal with uncomfortable feelings and that her habit of wiping down plastic surfaces on planes and hotels was all about control. “Now I try to remind myself that if I engage in perfectionism, I am abusing myself.”

The effects of her treatment are profound, she says, and has improved her friendships and her 4½-year marriage to racecar driver Dario Franchitti, 33.

“I was unhappy, and now I’m happy. Now, even when I’m having a rough day, it’s better than my best day before treatment.”

I’m sure neither Angelina nor Ashley, view what they do as a ‘contest,’ so why are you trying to make it one? I think it only speaks to the power and influence of Angelina, when the first thing YOU happen to think of in a post about Ashley Judd, or when reading about other people’s charity and/or philanthropy, is Angelina Jolie. LOL. That right there, is a unique accomplishment that no one else (aside from maybe Bono) owns right now – and for a 30-31 year old, is to be admired. So quit with the back-handed compliments, and just praise good people like Ashley for what they’re doing on their own.

Libraesque says: Why would you feel the need to bash someone for having the courage to face their demons? Whether they are glaring flaws or more subtle idiosyncracies, they were obviously affecting her life and happiness and she took the necessary steps to deal with them. It’s a miracle any celebrity has the guts to open up and say anything real about their personal lives anymore with judgemental t w a t s like you just waiting to bash them – but then Libra’s are known for being judgmental perfectionists aren’t they? Perhaps Ashley’s story hits a little too close to home for your comfort. lol!

Ashley’s humanitarian efforts are to be commended and they stand on their own – I see no need to compare one person’s good works to another peson’s good works. It is such typical Westernized thinking to compare and contrast what one person does against what another person does – open your mind and just appreciate another’s kindness at its face value for once. Good for Ashley for finding her truth and committing herself to a cause she feels is important. She’s a wonderful woman.

I replied to you earlier Cliniqua but I guess my language was too ugly for JJ to post. What I basically have to say is is: GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT.
I did not “just happen to think” about Angelina Jolie in a post about Ashley Judd’s humanitarian endeavors….oh sorry, is that word to big for you? I was REPLYING to someone else’s post in which that other person mentioned Angelina Jolie.
There was no comparison on my part, what I was ….quite simply actually….stating was that Ashley’s humanitarian efforts should stand on their own……NOT be treated like she does it because Angelina Jolie does it or because Angelina jolie “started it”. there are many celebrieties in HW who were humanitarians long before Ms. Jolie came on the scene so quit making it seem as if she is the be all and end all of everything living. My compliments for Jolie’s efforts was sincere…not back-handed…I just don’t worship her like other (cough cough) crazies out there.

I’vebeen following Ashley Judd for about five years now. She has a lot of great ideas and spends a lot of time doing humanitarian work. To the lovely jerk who went on a rant about “perfectionism”, there is a level of perfectionism that is a mental dysfunction. She was clinically depressed, she had to deal with being told to keep the secret of her sister’s father from her until she finally gave in and told her.

Ashley Judd views acting as a means to make money so that she can jet set around the world and help educate about AIDs. It’s not a competition. Her college education was centered around going around the world to help those in need. Since 2004 she’s only done one or two small films and one advertising campaign and spent most of her time at home with her husband (who is very cute) or in various countries educating workers in the sex trade.

She is a woman who should inspire us all. She is a beautiful, elegant, intelligent woman who isn’t doing this for attention. If she was she’d be in more movies. Ashley Judd has been doing this since before Brad and Angie decided to be public humanitarians, so don’t belittle her efforts by saying she’s being a copycat.

As for Angelina, I appreciate what she’s doing with the kids but it’s really bad for Maddox to have Pax suddenly come into the family and upset his role as the oldest child. It’s unstable for development and I wonder if anyone tried to tell her that.
