Halle Berry @ David Letterman

Halle Berry @ David Letterman

Halle Berry pops into NYC’s Ed Sullivan Theater on Monday to tape her segment on The Late Show with David Letterman , airing tonight. She wore an Alvin Valley ruffled blouse, Roberto Cavalli vest and Gold Sign leather pants.

Her thriller Perfect Stranger co-starring Bruce Willis opens this Friday. Senator Barack Obama will also be on tonight’s show. 15+ pictures inside…

Yesterday, Halle spoke out against Parade magazine saying they regurgitated quotes from old interviews and “sensationalized” her story about her suicide attempts.

“It wasn’t my wish to go into all of that again in this time of my life. I talked about it on Larry King Live and Oprah when it was relevant, and I felt like it was important to help other women and share it with them,” she said.

“But it’s just not where I am today and I really hate that it’s been presented like it is… I’m in such a great time in my life right now, it wouldn’t be my wish to really revisit that period, but this outlet did and made it seem as if it were current again.”

Parade Magazine fired back this statement: “All of the quotes in the April 1 Parade profile on Halle Berry came from a candid sit-down interview between Ms. Berry and Parade writer Emily Listfield on January 25, 2007. Ms. Berry talked very freely (on tape) about the challenges she has faced in her life, including her failed marriages and suicide attempt. It is unfortunate that Ms. Berry has chosen to respond to media interest by backing away from what she originally told Parade. Anyone who actually read the article is sure to see it as a very positive profile of a strong woman who has overcome many challenges in her life and is now on a clear path to happiness.”

Who do you believe? Halle or Parade?

Don’t Halle’s shiny leather pants make you think CATWOMAN?

  • Shoes4life

    I believe Halle.

  • Me Again!

I thought I would share this with you…

In response to Don Imus’ comments. I heard this poem on the Michael Baisden radio talk show on my way home from work…it made me cry…and people wonder why African American’s have a problem with comments made by people like Imus…OUR CHILDREN are hearing this junk as well. Here’s the poem.

    Violent
    By Yvonne Espinoza

We’re violent because this is all we know
You taught us this along time ago
We’re violent because you made us this way
You beat us naked, you hung our people,
Raped our kids and stripped us of our pride
And you now wanna ask why?
Give us a reason not to be
    You can’t, it’s impossible

Because to give us a reason, you’d have to right all the wrong you’ve done
But you can’t and if you could then
    You’ve only just begun
You’d have to beg for mercy, plead and cry
You’d have to feel the pain we felt
    The pain that took lives

    You go through the hardships,
    The trials and tribulations,
The suffering, the heartache, the dying babies
You sit on a boat full of hundreds of sick,
    Old people living to die
How about you dance to make money
    Look ignorant on t.v.
    Go to jail for nothing
Harassed because others don’t like what they see

Have your people get beat to death
By those who get paid to protect
    You eat trash to survive
How about you watch your people and babies die
    Get sold for a dime
Kill themselves because they don’t want to live this life

We went through it then and we go through it now
And you know it’s true, and you still ask why?
How dare you have the audacity
    Who made you king?

Despite common belief and despite what you think
There is only one king, one God
And he walks with me, with us
The ones who were forced to live in grief
Who were cut, killed, raped and beat
Like animals, brainwashed to think like you

You hacked away, pulled and dragged us down
Until we didn’t want to be Black or Brown
We didn’t want to be Colored or Negroes
We wanted to be High, Suddity, White Folk
We though if we looked, smelled, and act like you
We could live a regular life, and though we tried
You still continued to beat and lay us out
To hang us from our necks, to laugh at our bodies

You could never blame us for being this way
    Because you taught us violence
So how dare you think of forming any kind of alliance
Now we know that two wrongs don’t make a right
    But since we have none,
Why should we spare your life?

It’s your fault for all of this
And if you didn’t teach us violence
    Then who did?
    It couldn’t have been us
    Because, remember, we’re ignorant!

You should be careful what you say
    Because your words have power
Say it enough and it’ll come true…
I know you’ve heard of karma
    God have mercy on you.

Halle went through a period in her life that made her stronger and wiser. Parade Magazine captialize on that and made it the headline of her interview rather than focusing on the present. Halle seems to be in a good place in her life. However, tabs and weekly magazines rather focus on a person’s past and mistakes and overlook the accomplishments, strides and good work that a person has done. Sensationlism sales over basic honesty and good journalism.

  • kearnie

I believe Halle too and I wish more and more celebrities start to fight back against these magazines and tabloids doing a crapjob kind of journalism.

Sensationalism is what happened to Halle here. She did an interview and instead of the things that Parade claim to put her in good light, the mainstream media picked up suicide. They recorded her interview but STILL had to put it on the paper and that is where they failed M. Berry. Presented her interview in such a way that it is slanted to her appearing as though she is having problems in her 40s…and all are traced back to that suicide. Of course, the mainstream media and people are gonna focus on the suicide part and ignore the rest of the interview. And that seems like what happened here..then they blame it on Halle.

No wonder many celebrities are keeping mum and going under cover. The more this happens the less paps pictures and less like that celebrities will gladly share stuff with us. And who do you think will loose in the end – the very magazine.

They are becoming uncooperative, too sensationalist, and untrustworthy, imo.

  • kearnie

bdj – doesn’t this situation that Halle find herself in sound familiar

  • http://www.justjared.com f

I believe her ,we should boycott the tabloids.

  • LOL4

Thank you bdj and other finally a fair forum, im no celeb worshipper but i understand what both halle and parade are saying. Halle never said oUTRIGHT that she didnt discuss the suicide, but gosh the suicide comment was 1/10th of the article the rest of the article is really positive and after i read it I said why didnt parade just say “A Newer happier halle after a turbulent past a happy future” instead they made the suicide attempt the FOcus of hte article and that wasnt true. SO neither woman is lying its just that in promoting the article the suicide part got sensationlized by the ap, internet websites and even parade a little bit because htey were on tv harping on the suicide like it was an exclusive and it is not an exclusive. Even though halle talked freely about the past the article was really about the lessons learned and how happy she is now. That should have been stressed but unfortunately good news doesnt sell.

  • http://justjared.buzznet.com/ Go Halle!

Of course they sensationalized it! Halle Berry is happy as a clam right now. When you are happy and in love, the anger from the past seems to fade away. She is not putting her focus on David Justice and Eric Benet when she’s got “Mr. Hunk O Hot” to come home to.

I always say divorced women need to first learn from their mistakes and then “force” themselves to love again, even if they don’t feel like it. You just have to keep believing because one man can cause you so much pain, but the next one can be the total opposite. Nothings heals wounds faster or can make you get over the pain of divorce quicker than finding new love.

  • http://justjared.buzznet.com/ Go Halle!

    Me Again (#3),

That poem is sad and true, but what is sadder to me is the fact that I don’t know the solution. I have plenty of ideas, but what I wish for and actually making it happen… I don’t know the answer to that anymore.

  • CLINIQUA

Of course I believe Halle. This is one more instance of a black woman getting sh*t on by the man. They know damned well, that something mentioned in passing or referenced, is not carte blanche to write an article where that becomes the main focal point, complete with revisiting the quotes and sad circumstances Halle laid out almost 8 years go in Ebony and Essence magazine. I mean, why not just refer people to Essence so they could read a much better article with a much better interviewer. It sounds like Parade just did a lexis, pulled up old issues of OTHER (black) mags and elaborated on the attempted suicide with their legwork. They are full of sh*t. The classy thing to do would have been if Parade had just let it go and not said a damned word in response, instead their splitting hairs with a woman over her reluctance to relive the worst time in her life??!! They are the truest example of just how low the media at large has sunk.

  • please

PARADE!!! Halle is a basket case. She’s still bitter about David Justice. In fact, she did say she “will always love him and that’s just the way it’s going to be.” (Oprah 1996 or ’97).

  • I Just Don’t Know about Halle….

Like BOTH OF HER EX-HUSBANDS HAVE STATED: HALLE LIKES TO PLAY THE VICTIM!!! Now it seems like she’s doing it with the media. Before and apparently STILL she did it with regard to her relationships, but we really could not see what was going on behind closed doors, so as the public we really cannot know for sure whether she is a victim or not with her husbands! BUT WITH THE MEDIA…ALL OF US have seen this woman repeatedly talk about how she has struggled in her relationships and how she wanted to commit suicide…so to attack PARADE for bringing up what she probably talked about YET AGAIN! I think is ludicrous and again telling of this woman liking to play the victim, although she seems to brings it upon herself.

And who knows, maybe she’s trying to back track on what she said in Parade because she’s SUPPOSEDLY happy with Gabriel—if that were true—you would not still be harping on the past—THUS THIS MAKES ME QUESTION HER TRUE HAPPINESS! Many believe Gabriel is using Halle (could be true)…BUT I personally think Halle is using Gabriel for some sperm!!! Plus, she’s OBVIOUSLY a needy woman and can’t seem to be alone for more than a year…she seems to always need a man, if you want to call Gabriel that. He actually looks like someone that can easily be controlled! She’s probably working the h*ll out this boy (i.e., cook me this, travel here, take me here, say this to the media, make me a baby, LOL! etc. etc. etc)

Dear #13, Wow. That much jealousy & hate will surely make you butt ugly if you’re not already. Methinks you are.

As for her ex-husbands, since they were both addicted to f*cking anything that happened by with a vagina while married to Halle, not only do I conclude they are dumb as a box of rocks on that fact alone, but they also have no business striking back at her for putting up with their whoring around time and time again.

Now they are both has beens while she is an Oscar winning beauty known for her refreshing honesty and down to earth ways, who has a strong and handsome wonderful man who loves her….which is as it should be.

  • 2985

I second that Cliniqua! Totally! All the negativity can be refocused on loving oneself better so that maybe #13 doesn’t go spewing on people he/she doesn’t even know about. THAT would be good evolving. ;)

  • Total bs and a shame

Total BS–not being a hater or anything. The Parade editor is entitled to make a rebuttal. Don’t know who to believe–sorry. If they have it on tape and have her casually talking about it–then they didn’t dig up old info folks. Agree, Halle shouldn’t have talked about period. Plus if she gave the interview in the winter why is Halle blasting back now –I’m sure she or someone on her staff new the contents. So it’s a case of she said/she said.

That’s great that Halle’s in a much better place now, no doubt. I think she could have handled the situation better instead of denying what they allegedly have her on tape of saying. Let’s hope this doesn’t linger on and effect ticket sales.

All of this, however, could make others wonder will think has she really changed her relationship karma if she is reacting on the defense whether justified or not. And is she credible.

Changing one’s karma is when one reacts differently to a similar situation, by her making a denial on the context of how the info was extracted, is essentially saying that she hasn’t changed her karma.

Agree that no one likes to hear the good news. Disagree that both exes are has beens–EB maybe, he was nothing before but DJ is now a successful sportscaster and is eligible for being inducted into the Baseball HOF in 2008–which the news came out the week the article came out and you haven’t heard a word from him.

  • myspin

definitely a case of she said/she said. a possible scenario is halle reacting the way that she did to Access Hollywood and other media sources is out of embarassment and regret thinking the reporter wouldn’t use info in light of the reaction in the news, responses in the blogs and possibility of being the butt of jokes in Hollywood thinking it would end all the media frenzy which it did for a day or two. think halle should let it go and move on and be more carefully what she reveals in the future.

the karma thing…maybe, don’t know for sure. but definitely a case of cause and effect. the cause– halle revealing the info in any context at any time past, present, future. the effect–media/blog reaction, parade rebuttal, having it brought up again and again in interviews this week, low ticket sales, her credibility in general and with other facets of her life past, present, future…etc.

  • is halle a liar?

if halle’s lying about this to save her ass and not hurt ticket sales is she lying about everything that’s been in the press i.e. the revealing of other personal info, her being ready for kid now w/several projects in the works or even her relationship with that hunky bf we’d all like to jump–let’s hope those rumors from the haters aren’t true either so more shit won’t hit the fan.

If true, halle is totally fucked….

Not a coincidence of Parade’s rebuttal:

Whichever the case how the info was being gathered you could have handled it differently like

Nevertheless, of the case of you said/editor said it is an unfortunate lesson in how strict the laws of cause & effect can be. One changes their karma when the re-act to the same situation differently (which #17 aptly and correctly defined). Karma isn’t a punishment or stuff happens. It’s a checks and balances or an inventory what we need to work on.

Still great that your in a great space in your life now. Yes, you’re right it begins with you and not anything external (you got that one–that’s half the battle).

Besides being careful of your words, thoughts and deeds, be mindful in your intentions (in general)in all that you do and you will go far in your journey. If one’s intentions aren’t with sincerity or earnest resolve all of our aspirations won’t manifest and we stay stuck/stagnant and deluded regardless of what we thought our original intention was.

All of this has to come out (expiating your karma) in order for you to further your process of human revolution.

    Human revolution is:

the concept of “human revolution,” a process of inner transformation through Buddhist practice. It’s an awakening that leads us to develop our character; to cultivate wisdom, courage, and compassion; and to act not only for our personal fulfillment, but also for the betterment of society.

Best of luck in all that you do…hopefully, the effects won’t be too severe (as #18 mentioned).

  • WTF

Halle you really are going to need more than a bull-dozer to dig yourself out on this one. Yep, looks like you really fucked up big time on this one this time.

Scandals and the men for support:

    DJ–the dentist ‘drill fiasco’

    EB–the hit’n run fiasco/Warren Beatty ‘drill’ fiasco

GA–the Parade fiasco (and whatever else bullshyt that’s keeping you together)/your ‘drilling’ yourself

Do we see a pattern? Hope you keep friggin’ mouth shut in the rest of your interviews this week, you stupid ugly skank. Shaking the titties and ‘acting’ cute kiss butt or practicing the latest oral/anal technique like you did kissing your star won’t save you either.

  • remember da truth

I agree with LOL4 who actually read the article. It’s a positive article, and Parade did it’s job by putting the teaser bit in the headline to get people to read it. Just like when movie trailers show the best bits that people want to see. So the rest of the media picked it up and is talking about it — that’s not Parade’s doing. That’s life.

Halle is a victim, always loves to be the victim, and that is why she and Oprah are such good friends. But here she had the opportunity to once again talk about this time in her life. She said she talked about it before to help people — well, if that were the truth, and she really wanted to help people and not just whine and feel sorry for herself, she would have no problem still talking about it. Now more than ever when she is happy and fulfilled is the time to point out to depressed people that suicide is not a good option. She could be saying, “look at me! Back then I saw no way out, but now look at how happy I am and all I have accomplished, that seemed impossible at the time.” Instead, she wants to hide and act all insecure and say it was just another time in her life. Well — no shit!!! That’s the whole point!!! Look what you have overcome and how that is inspiring for others! But now, Halle only wants to think of herself and how it makes HER look.

Now, I like Halle well enough, but she is missing a great opportunity here. And by the way, when are stars going to learn that if they are speaking on tape in an interview, to deny what they said makes them look that much worse than however bad they think what they said was (hello, Lindsay Lohan!!)? Halle has been in the public eye long enough to know better.

  • RCG

Parade editors know suicide has a stigma attached to it. I’ve suffered from depression myself & comtemplated suicide over 10 years ago. I can talk about it but I wouldn’t want that aspect of my history treated in a insensive manner by anyone. If Ms Berry discussed it in the context of overcoming obstacles then fine. But for Parade to “sensationalize” Ms. Berry’s suicide attempt whice happened years ago and make it the “catch word” on the cover of their magazine was disrespectful. Why didn’t Parade just say she has overcome many obstacles ? Obviously, they had an agenda with her. Parade knew that readers and the media would focus on the word suicide and that’s what the interview has become about.

  • http://justjared.buzznet.com/ Go Halle!

You guys, please let us get real. Halle Berry is not playing a victim. Why keep saying that? I watched her on TV and let me tell you, that girl does not look depressed. I think too many people WANT her to be unhappy. I know it really hurts some guys to think that she may actually have found a true partner in Gabriel Aubry. It’s salt in a wound.

People always say they will love someone forever. That doesn’t mean Halle Berry is still “in love” with David Justice. How many years has it been since they parted? She’s had two more serious relationships since her divorce from Justice. Believe me, she is completely over that dude. She has a busy career and satisfying love life. She’s having fun. She’s not caring about David Justice. Besides, he’s married with children now. He’s the one who is probably keeping up with her since she is so much in the public eye. I wonder how David, Eric and Michael feel about her dating this gorgeous French Canadian. As black men, I’ll bet you they don’t like it.

Usually the most difficult thing to get over after a divorce is anger. I’ll bet that is what Halle Berry had to deal with the most after her relationships ended. That and the feeling that she was doomed to repeat a bad cycle.

Halle is doing fine now. Just dandy. I saw her on “Live with Regis and Kelly.” She looks fantastic and her smiles are infectious. I am so happy for her.

  • http://justjared.buzznet.com/ Go Halle!

Number 23 — I don’t like to personally attack people here, but I have to tell you that your anger is really out of line. Hating Halle Berry that much for being with Gabriel Aubry is really not a good thing — especially for you. I’m sorry, but that is the honest to goodness truth.

  • supernova

They would never have printed the suicide story had she not OPENED HER FAT FUCKING MOUTH and told them about it — keep in mind you morons who are defending her that this is about the FOURTH INTERVIEW she’s done where she has talked about her suicide. She has spent her WHOLE CAREER playing the “victim” card (in movie roles and in her personal life). Whenever she needs people to see her crappy movies she discusses how she was beaten by her ex-boyfriend and became deaf in one ear, or how her ex-husbands cheated on her, or how hard it is to be a black female actress in hollywood. Seriously, this bitch CAN’T HELP but to put her most miserable life experiences “out there” – she thrives on it because she’s a fame whore like every actor in hollywood. THink about it, what would she talk about if she didn’t talk about her life’s abuses.

  • To Go Halle-more media sources on ‘getting star’ thread

To GH–honey, don’t get yourself upset at these folks, it’s not worth it.

See posts for more media sources i.e. bcast, print and video on the Halle getting her star JJ post.

BTW–I really don’t hubby #1 could careless about Halle, hasn’t said a word since he has gotten on w/his life.

  • http://justjared.buzznet.com/ Go Halle!

Well, she could talk about how much she loves Aubry and how well he’s treating her, but she’s done that already. I think that with counseling, she has learned that she needs to be true to herself. She doesn’t owe the public access to her private life.

I am sure that Halle Berry’s exes are going on with their lives. However, David Justice or any of those exes would be foolish to comment publicly on what they think about Halle’s relationship with Aubry, especially if they cheated. They should just stay mum.

  • http://justjared.buzznet.com/ Go Halle!

Just for the record, I really don’t get mad at people here. Sometimes I just enjoy the dispute as long as it relates to the topics. I can’t change anyone’s mind.

WTF………the girl is Baaaaaaaaaaaad!! we all have problems
    including Halle.

As for her ex- husbands..Ha.. one was a brute, and like to kick
her A.ss the other just wanted as much A.ss as he could get.
so who cares what they had to say about Halle [not me]

The suicide thing is old news! Whhhhy it came up again?
MONEY.. [not because they care about Halle or suicide victims]
    MONEY!
As for all the hate comments!!! Damn are you all for real?? IMO you sound somewhat suicidal, has Halle victimize you??

  • this is true

This is tru GH, then she needs to stop bringing it up no matter how much therapy she is getting or how much she is in love or how he treats her. Not being a wet blanket.

Love has nothing to do with it–as Tina would say.

  • Hey GH

She is playing the sympathy card, that’s why her marriages failed. She wants people to go see her crappy movie! She is spoiled, egotistical and mean according to some stories about her in a few tabloid papers, like Star and the Enquirer. She is a chronic flirt according to the Enquirer a few years ago when she was with then husband Eric Benet. I guess he had reason for his infidelities, and ordinary people can’t talk to her or look at her according to Star mag, she had one of her mansions renovated when the working men couldn’t take their eyes off of her and she ranted to them they were only there to do their job! She wouldn’t even sign an autograph for the guys. Once again she is ugly, quite full of herself and overrated!

    dependent origination:

“One of the most important Buddhist concepts, dependent origination holds that all beings and phenomena exist or occur in relation to other beings or phenomena. All things are linked in an intricate web of causation and connection, and nothing, whether in the realm of human affairs or natural phenomena, can exist or occur solely of its own accord. Greater emphasis is placed on the interdependent relationships between individuals than on the individual alone.”

Basically, how everything in the world is interconnected to each other through our actions, words and deeds regardless of environment, proximity/location, etc.
