I classify the Ocean’s films a stylistic film, all slick and highy styliszed with a little substance thrown in. LOL!!!! It’s like one big glossy magazine spread out on film. I can’t wait to see it.
By the way does anyone know if the Wall Street Journal sent anyone to Cannes to review AMH? Their film reviews come out usually on Fridays. I would think it would be tough and would rather wait to review it when it premiered in the States.

Angelina Jolie impresses in Michael Winterbottom’s new film about the disappearance of writer Daniel Pearl.

It’s often suggested that the films of Michael Winterbottom are so varied that it’s hard to find a common thread running through them beyond their diversity and frequency, yet the director’s latest film ‘A Mighty Heart’, which had its world premiere in Cannes last night, is further evidence of this British filmmaker’s growing desire to apply an urgent and committed cinema to some of the more controversial and pressing areas of current world affairs.
His new film is an energetic reconstruction of the disappearance of Wall Street Journal journalist Daniel Pearl in Karachi in 2002 and the tense five weeks that followed as his wife Mariane Pearl (Angelina Jolie) remained at the centre of a fraught international investigation until the discovery that Pearl had in fact been murdered by his kidnappers early in his captivity. With its extensive location work, a visual style that feeds on the appearance of news footage and documentaries, use of archive footage and its journalistic attention to precise details, ‘A Mighty Heart’ should be seen as the third film in a loose trilogy that includes ‘In This World’ and ‘Road to Guantanamo’. Jolie is impressive as Mariane Pearl, portraying her as a calm, intelligent presence amid an investigation that was flawed by bureaucracy and differing attitudes to her husband’s disappearance among, for example, the FBI and the Pakistani security services, the first of which were questioning of the latter’s reaction to Pearl’s disappearance. Indeed a strong theme of the film is the downside of global communication and co-operation as different interests and ideas and prejudices collide in the search for Pearl.
Before the kidnapping itself, Winterbottom immediately presents the chaos and uncertainty of Daniel Pearl’s existence in Karachi, throwing us into busy street-scenes of traffic jams as Pearl (Dan Futterman) fights his way around the city as part of his research into potential Pakistani links to the British ‘shoe bomber’, Richard Reid. Within 15 minutes, Pearl is gone and the rest of the film leads up to the inevitable discovery of the news that its characters all dread. Winterbottom adopts a ‘war room’ approach to the story, largely basing its telling within Pearl’s Karachi home, which fills with colleagues, police and other officials. This scenario is constantly punctuated with brief interludes elsewhere, such as flashes of Pearl’s parents back home in America and of the Pakistani’s forces applying torture to a suspect. The film is speedy and never lingers on one scene for long. Edits are fast and close-ups are abundant.
We don’t see Pearl being kidnapped or during his incarceration apart from a reconstruction of some moments of the tape that his kidnappers released following his death. Instead, this is Mariane Pearl’s story and we are left to ponder the Pearls’ previous life together from several flashbacks (such as their wedding) and their life apart from both the terrible, wrenching screams that a heavily pregnant Pearl lets out when she is finally told that her husband is dead and the final shot of her walking alone with her child down a quiet Paris street.

I agree with Virgo. She is a has been. If it wasn’t for the fact the she was married to Brad, she would have a movie career. None of the Friends have a great movie career except Courtney for Scream trilogy. All her movies bombed and the only movie that did well was because Vince comedic performance. Everytime chin chin is in the tabloids, is always with the Arquette (there’s nothing wrong with that) but she has no life since she and brad seperated. And for the haters who said that Jen is better off without brad, I obsolutely agree because Brad seems much happier now.

It’s funny those were posted since they are so obviously forced and fake. Brad was enthralled with Angelina at the time. I also think when they went into the theater, they soon left after having a fight. Couple who have to put on such a grand show of emotion and happiness and who aren’t just natural and REAL have something to hide. Angelina and Brad are natural, comfortable and don’t let too many people into their relationship.

the thing that I have a hard time believing about Jen and Brad is how they could be REALLY IN LOVE but not show that by PUTTING EFFORT INTO THEIR MARRIAGE IN ORDER FOR IT TO LAST or by not turning THAT LOVE INTO SOMETHING TANGIBLE, REAL AND LASTING. i.e no kids.

For instance, they were rarely together nor share hobbies or do activities together.
When they (Brad & Jan) felt like a PDA, they did when the spotlight was on them(red carpet) then they kissed passionately and hugged for all to see but then when the spotlight was gone – each went back to his/her own thing. i.e. he worked and worked in another city and she worked and worked in another.
It is well known long distance between couple DOES NOT ADD but SUBTRACT from the marriage. Then you read their interviews and you don’t get a sense of commitment but more like two people living together..each doing his/her thing…NONE WANTS TO COMPROMISE for THE OTHER…but they are married!
Then you’ve got Jolie. Is willing to put her career on hold to be in one place..close by Brad so that not only does she look after the kids as a mother but that Brad is also able to be close to his kids. And he in turn does the same for her when she goes to work.
She rides motor-cycles with him and she is interested in his hobbies. Learn something new there. Furthermore, Jolie won’t fail to show her deep admiration and respect for Brad. And even though Brad is as private as usual when it comes to these matters of the heart and his women, his actions thus far are a FAR cry from before – really prove his COMMITMENT, LOVE AND WILLINGNESS TO COMPROMISE in this RELATIONSHIP than in the previous one. The man put his ******* career on the line to be with this woman. Many would have just fcuked her and ran away. But he didn’t. He is much better than that.
You read how Jolie describe Brad – it is more than her saying outright *I love* but she dives deep into details. Most of all, you get a sense she really admire him for THE MAN HE IS and NOT BECAUSE HE IS BRAD PITT. In short, Jolie makes it a point to highlight what is *inside* the man and not the outside and superficial things like he is CUTE, GORGEOUS, A SEXY MAN. For a man as private as Brad, I rather love reading these detailed and well thoughout comments from Jolie than point blank *I love him* or *he is the sexiest man*. The latter is all I got from Gwyneth and Jen. Jolie blows me away. I get the sense that she KNOWS this man more than his previous significant others did.
Jolie’s comments about Brad ADD AND NOT SUBTRACT from the man that is Brad Pitt. He already had this side of him but none of his past women, in my opinion, brought it out as Jolie does. It was always about themselves FIRST then Brad Pitt , the man. i.e. He was kinda presented by his women as arm candy – i.e. like they are saying – see ladies, I got me Brad Pitt, the Sexiest Man in Hollywood…yes that’s right. Impressive, isn’t. I got me the Brad Pitt. Look at me. Look at me. *fans self* LOL.
Jolie does not do that and this is why I think she is by far the best fit for him.

Proof that she is nothing without Brad? No movie offer after Brad dumped her. All her movies in 2006 were offered to her when she was still with Brad. Its almost 2 years that she has not been filming, and its a known fact that she is bumming around, with no excuse of not doing a movie, except taht her projects have not been greenlighted. I don’t get to post much anymore, but I surely thought some of the deluded X-file groupies would have relented. What is it going to take? Look, let me see if I can help you ppl understand. Shiloh is a baby right? She poops right? Well, when Shiloh poops in her diaper and her dad is the one who is changing her, he works really fast and hard to get rid of the poop because it not only stinks to high heaven, but it is absolutely worthless. He doesn’t talk about it, he doesn’t save pictures of it, he doesn’t cry over it or feel sorry that it is gone. Well, consider his relationship with Aniston on the same level as the poop. It is worthless, it is gone, it needed to be disposed of as soon as possible. There is nothing else to talk about. Was it worth something at one time. Yes. Sure it was.
