David Beckham's Final Press Conference

David Beckham's Final Press Conference

David Beckham of Real Madrid gives his last press conference as a Real player at the Valdebebas training grounds on Thursday in Madrid, Spain.

He revealed Sunday’s La Liga match with Real Mallorca will be his last game for the club. Watch the video here. Becks also speaks in Spanish here, thanking the Spanish press, the people, the players, the coaches and the presidents. He ended by saying his Spanish wasn’t that bad, causing the press to laugh.

Here are some excerpts from the press conference:

“There is no clause in the contract. My last game is Sunday. I have had an incredible time and hopefully I will end with the best ending possible. I have had no contact with the president about anything else and I first realized I would be leaving Real in January when I was told my contract wouldn’t be renewed. I knew I had to decide my future and leaving a club like Real Madrid is very difficult. But the future is very bright and something I’m really looking forward to now. But I’ll miss Real Madrid and Spain a huge amount. I made a decision, I had to. I needed to make a decision and my option was the United States. I’m very happy about that decision, it’s a very exciting prospect.

“The Real Madrid fans have been incredible, not just to me but to my family. That is something I will never forget in my whole life. I have to say thank you for that. I could without a doubt have stayed for two or three more years, I could have stayed for the rest of my career but things change. I have a lot of respect respect for the president and Fabio Capello, he is one of the best managers in football. It is difficult, because we still have a big game on Sunday. The league is not over, we have to win on Sunday and if we win then we will enjoy the celebrations.

“I haven’t won anything in four years (at Madrid) and hopefully I can change that on Sunday. My best memory so far was signing for Real Madrid, I’m hoping that will change on Sunday, when my memories here will be taken to another level by winning something. I hope to reward the fans with a trophy.”

I agree w/ Famous Fug Face. lol Man he’s fine!

  • Ella_

I’m not his biggest fan but this press conference was very touching. I don’t think there will be a dry eye @ the Bernabeu this sunday. He & Roberto Carlos are leaving; for 10 years Roberto Carlos has done so much for Madrid, winning every title in WORLD Football and Beckham this season and especially in the final games of this season has been on fire.

I wish he recovers and plays on Sunday we need all our great/greater players to be fit and ready for Mallorca and for the trophy to come to the Santiago Bernabeu. It will top off a very hard but very memoriable season.

His so humble, I can’t believe how different he is to his wife. They’d seem like strangers if you didn’t know they were together.

  • Brooke

He is so gracious, open and selfless… How he EVER managed or wanted to hook up with that vile wife of his, I will never understand…

  • Spain

Te vas porque a la bruja de tu mujer le gusta más Los Angeles, alli acabarás pudriendote como futbolista…HALA MADRID¡¡

  • Melissa

Love hime! Love him! Love him!

  • vicky

He is so down-to-earth and very humble !! Bonus, he is gorgeous ! The only thing bothers me is his wife !

  • HottieTottie

    Sorry, not a fan.

  • Christina

Aww, he is such a sweet man. That club treated him horribly this year and made him leave. Otherwise, he definitely would have stayed. They even told him they weren’t gonna sign a new contract with him and now they are lying about having talks with him. I love this man, he refuses to say anything negative, even though everyone else would. Go Beckham!

  • haystar

i love becks news!!! thank you jared! he looks great here, can’t wait to watch real madrid on sunday!!

  • smooth

Oh God what a sad moment for me and all Real’s fans. He is and will be our legend, yeh MU is always in his heart…but anyway we will miss him. Hope this Sunday David won’t leave SB with empty arms
    Hala Madrid

  • Isa

He is such a good guy and a great player. I am sad that he is moving to LA just because his selfish wife is obsessed with fame. We’ll miss you very much in Madrid! Love you Becks and come back soon to visit us…

  • Madridista

I’m excited about Sunday but it will be then that the reality hits me; he’s leaving. I hope we can give him and Roberto the send off they deserve because they deserve a massive one. Seeing Raul lift a trophy as captain on Sunday will be something that will stay with me forever.

    Come on boys!

  • Kiko

Beckham is an okay player, not a great player but his spin doctors and publicists always overhype him. Even now they are trying to give him more credit than deserved for Real Madrid’s good run but others are more instrumental like Ruud Van Nisteroy. The marketing machinery just never stops.

And of course he will head to LA because that is where he and his fame-obsessed stick of a wife want to be so that they can rub shoulder with the Hollywood celebs.

Beckham is a marketing phenom, and that is all. Good luck America. Now you will be stuck with him and his constantly posing wife.

  • Kiko

BTW, his voice is absolutely cringe-inducing and enough to turn one off him permanently.

  • j.dizzle

thats why im a fan of beckham..he is the definition of class

  • Lulu

Kiko you can say whatever you want but the likes of Maradona, Pele, Zidane or Platini or Ronaldinho have all said that David is an amzing world class player, one of the best in the world, i think they know football more than you and i.

And wether you want it or not RM are better since he came back playing.

Just stop saying the guy is out there just for the publicity, when we can all see how humble he is and has always been.
The fact his wife seeks attention doesn’t mean he does, i mean we barely see him outside of the stadium or training.

I’m a Man Utd fan since like i’m born, and have been a RM fan for the last 10 years, i thank him for everything he did for these 2 clubs, a player of his class is pretty rare nowadays.
The guy gives 100% everytime he’s on the pitch wether it’s England or his club, the guy played the last 2 games with an ankle injury, he was in serious pain, but gave all he could for his team, not a lot of players do that.

Sorry for this long post ;)

  • angelface

he’s a good player, and i think he has a fantastic ability to set up goals…there is something so sad about the word ‘soccer’ coming out of beckham’s mouth!!…its an end of an era!

  • Ola

Yeah, ok, saying DB is out there just for the publicity and that he is just an ok player is just dumb and sounds like someone has never even seen him play is saying it. There is a reason why the US team offered him such a ridiculous amount of money to play for them, it is b/c they are hoping that he will bring the team to a new level and turn US football or soccor into a popular sport like it is around the world and they know the DB is good enough and well known enough to do that. Yes he is marketable but there is a reason, just like the US’s Michela Jordon, he was a phenom and that is why he was so marketable, it just so happens that DB has the face and body to go with the ability.

  • vicky

It’s too late to critisize are just wasting your time. The person you talk about is the most famous sportman in the world ! He’s achieved many things since he started playing..He is an icon.I mean not like her fashionicowannabe wife..I mean he is a real living legend !

  • Becks rocks!

He is an amzing player. As someone already said, he always give 100% when he’s playing. Despise everything he already has achieved, he always plays with so much passion. I love him and I love footballers like that. Many footballers out there are much more skilled than Beckham, but none of that matter without passion.

Great player, great guy. Becks rocks!

  • Cynthia

Now this is what I call handsome! Love Mr. Becks!
