Mandy Moore Covers "Umbrella"

Mandy Moore Covers

Mandy Moore takes a stab a covering “Umbrella,” originally performed by R&B songstress Rihanna.

Mandy explained why she chose to cover this song: “This was one of my favorite songs of the moment. I’m not a big Top 40s type of listener but you just can’t deny how melodic this song is.”

  • lihara

no denying her voice is BETTER than Rihanna

  • angie!

i forgot how PRETTY her voice is! Loves it!! :)

  • SILVIA

HER VOICE IS SO BEAUTIFUL, I LIKE BOTH VERSIONS

  • Gelly

So mandy has to cover someone else hot song at the moment because she can’t sell her own music…. I thought mandy hated songs like these and that she preferre singer song writer stuff???? a lot can change when you can’t sell any copies of your own album…. nice try though

  • Reader

Wow, I totally love her version of this song. Seems more meaningful at that tempo.

  • diane

    generic voice

  • ShimmeringDew

I liked her version of it – so far I have liked a few other people who have also done different versions.
This one how ever comes off or reminds me a little like James Taylor not sure as to why but thats what I thought of first when I heard it.
    Sounds great to me too!

  • nancy

Wow I love it…both versions are good. The same lyrics can be used for different styles of music. Mandy has a wonderful voice and I think her music sells just fine. It’s a different demographic.

i LIKE HERS BETTER(MANDY MOOORE) SHE HAS PUT A VOICE TO IT THAT i CAN LISTEN TO! yEAAAAAAAAA!
HER VERSION SOUND SO SWEET! LIKE IT IS COMING FROM HER HEART!

  • LOVE ANGELINA

Mandy Moore can’t sing and I have heard wayyyyyyyy better covers of this song. Check out Jon West on youtube his is beatuful and well sung.

  • emma

her voice is beautiful but i don’t really think this song sounds as good remade. idk. i like mandy’s voice tons more than rihanna’s, i just think rihanna made the song better.

  • sam

I really liked the version she did. But Mandy what said disturbed me, “I’m not a big Top 40s type of listener but you just can’t deny how melodic this song is.” Her music is top 40 and her last album she covered top 40 songs. Mandy needs to stop being fake about her music and she needs to start being confident in what she says. She is a really great singer and she has all the resources available to sell albums, but her lack of confidence in her creative abilities is the reason she is where she is – not selling albums.

  • Lindsay

this was on the hills two nights ago…i didn’t know who sang it and i guess it was mandy! i mean i knew rihanna sang it originally but i have never heard anyone else sing it before…this version is more of a ballad than r&b i like both

  • Jennie

i really like it, totally love it ! i wonder if it was the one playing on the hills.

  • kwab

What I gather by “Top 40″ is all the urban/urban-leaning songs that are played on the charts nowadays. “Top 40″ doesn’t equate to “Pop” anymore like the way it did just 5-10yrs ago.

  • flatazz

elevator music…yuck. i prefer the original.

  • jason

I cant stop listening to Mandy’s version. It’s really good.
    Ohhh Mandy!!! She’s soo sweet.

  • begonia

It was nice to hear another version and I liked it, but … I felt like I was watching American Idol. I think she’s capable of doing better. I like the soft approach, but this was a little too bland.

  • Ivory

That was not a great rendetion…her voice is beautiful, but the cover was just eh. The best Rihanna Umbrella Cover BY FAR is JOHN WEST at http://www.myspace.com/johnpeterwest

  • Amy

She’s discussing current top 40, not oldies. Coverage was all oldies, 50′s, 70′s, etc. If you can’t see a difference between old pop and current pop, you don’t know music at all.

I really like this cover. It has more soul acoustic. The Rihanna dancing in a leotard behind her kind of kills it. It’s really a beautiful lyrical song and the style of the original makes it into a candy pop R&B song and makes it much more shallow sounding than it really is.

  • Nana

    Love her voice

  • karlee

    WHOA. i love this!
    i never really liked rihanna’s.
    GO MANDY(:

  • krufh

i like mandy’s version. it’s not as annoying as the original.

  • ?

Yeah she waz much better than fug Rihanna..even though big Mandy look like a fat old bag lady.

  • pamela

    I love her version better.

  • Marie

Thoughtful, poignant, moving – I LOVED it!

I still love this song and it will probably have many more “lives” before most of us get tired of it, if ever. I’d love to hear numerous version from a variety of artists. Fun!

    Great job, Mandy!

    Thank you, Jared!

  • ed

    REALLY REALY GOOD
    IMPRESSED

  • Yily

Pleaseeee! Mandy Moore! Go back to singing!

  • me

    amazing…:)

  • xy

now i realise how beautiful this song really is! rihannas voice and the more studio-fabricated sound of her version created the impression that it’s too much about disco-style beat.

but mandy moore’s version’s so nice! it’s a great song. now it’s so clear.

  • disgusted

I love Mandy Moore, but I hate this song. Umbrella is so annoying.

  • Dc

Very nice. Mandy has always had a good voice when she sings good songs.

It’s funny how one song can be sung better than the original by so many different artists. I love OneRepublic’s little cover that they play at their shows.

  • joana

    I prefer this version ! ! !

  • curakini

Brilliant!Luvvvvv it soooooo much. Never thought this song can be as touching as this.

  • emilie

    better than the original!
oh man i cant believe Daniel Clark from Degrassi was there
    awesome!

  • BBperfume

I must admit Mandy’s cover was very touching and i just never realised how beautiful this song is. I think the fabricated commercial club sound didn’t do it for me.

I hope that this version would be available soon for download or sale.

  • Fioux

Can Someone put a link of that song where we can download it!!?? pls pls pls

  • Marta

i dont like this song (I totally dislike Rihanna’s irritating voice), but must say in this interpretation this song sounds good, Mandy performed very well.

  • Lisalt

I love her version. It is way much, much better than the original singer. Her voice is really good.

#27 – good point about the original singer who is dancing with her leotards – not appropriate.

  • [~Famous~]

She should jump off Rihanna’s dcik.

She ruined the song and proved she does have much of a voice.

  • slap a hoe

sux and this song is old i’m tired of hearing it over and over again. love rihanna

  • hateonme

    i’ll pass
