Adrianne Curry: "Boycott Black History Month!"

Adrianne Curry:

The original America’s Next Top Model winner Adrianne Curry is speaking out against Black History Month and cable network BET (Black Entertainment Television) on her MySpace. The 25-year-old reality TV star is married to Christopher Knight, who played Peter Brady on The Brady Bunch. Leave your thoughts on her rant in the comments section! Here’s Adrianne‘s post:

“This is gonna be hard guys. I LOVE the comedians on BET. I also LOVE the fact that they play my favorite show of all time, In Living Color. However, I do not believe in seperating ANY RACE in America. WE ARE AMERICANS! How dare we have Black History Month! In my eyes, the Native Americans deserve it MUCH more, seeing how we destroyed their ENTIRE SOCIETY. There are hardly any of them left! They also have been proven to have the WORST living conditions on their reservations. I want AN AMERICAN HISTORY MONTH. One where we learn about EVERY race, ALL OF OUR LEADERS, EVERYONE! I think by having a month dedicated to one race, and not one for any other, is RACIST. Every fund set up to only help people of one race is SICK and RACIST.

Adrianne Curry: “Boycott Black History Month!”

Yes, I get it. Black people were slaves here once. You know what? That does suck some major balls, however, it is time to move the f*** on. Do we hear the Jews crying that they were made slaves for thousands of years? Do we hear them whine that they should OWN the pyramids in Egypt because THEY broke their backs making them? Do we hear them b**** and moan about Hitler, etc? (my hubby is a Jew)Nope, we dont. It’s time for us to UNITE AS ONE. I do not think that singling out one race, giving one race opportunities to go to college (I know a TON of poor white.asian, indian, american indian, etc etc that could use that too!), giving one race the EXCUSE to blame things on others for being whatever nationality they are, is a good way at making sure we NEVER kill racism.

I am over this s***. WE ALL CAME FROM ONE BLACK WOMAN FROM AFRICA, THAT is our EVE! It has been proven by science, and I stand by it. If any other race had a chanel dedicated to just them, we would think it was racist. If any other race demanded a month be set aside for ONLY them, they would be considered racist. I am NOT living by this double standard any longer.

Think I am racist? I am not. I know what racism is. I dated a guy named “Justin” in Junior high. Nothing serious, but I really liked him. He was the blackest of black…BEAUTIFUL skin, kinda like Alex Wek’s. He was handsome, and athletic, etc. I was called a nigger lover. But you know what? I was called that by a whole 2 people out of a school with HUNDREDS of students. THAT is why I am NOT buying this racist s*** anymore. Let us teach or children that there is NO DIFFERENCE! We are all human. I hope one day aliens land and try to kill us. Maybe THEN we would finally realize that WE are ONE.

So, I will no longer tune into BET. This is going to suck, but I do NOT like the idea of having a chanel for only 1 race. In the year 2007 in a country that is supposed to be the most advanced and equal. This is unexceptable! I will also no longer acknowledge Black History Month. Instead, I will see it the way that Morgan Freeman does (I have the quote at the bottom of my last blog on Obama/jesseJackson, and OJ). AMERICAN HISTORY MONTH! I will read/watch/and learn about ALL the people who made a difference in this country.

I am asking you ALL to join me. Black, White, Indian, Asian, Russian, Australian, etc etc…..lets be AMERICANS together! What happened to the African American community was AMERICAN HISTORY, not BLACK HISTORY. If you want to celebrate in a way that excludes others and singles one race out, count me the f*** out! I am soooo proud to be an American. I am SO proud that I have friends of every race, and none of us see each other as anything but what we are..people. Lets change Black History Month to 2 months of AMERICAN HISTORY. We will still learn about all the black leaders and people who made a difference….just not with the racist name of “Black History Month”. It has to start somewhere. I am going to do my part in making sure we are all treated EQUAL in a country that CLAIMS we are. NO MORE SPECIAL TREATMENT FOR ANYONE WITH ANYTHING!

It will never happen. At least, that is what many of you will say…FINE! My number one priority here is being able to die and know that I stood up for what I believed in, and that I did not add to the SEPERATION OF AMERICANS!! I love my country, I love the people in it. I love our history, good and bad. We should LEARN from it,not dwell in it and not move forward. That’s why I am done with this s***. You are all my brothers and sisters…..even if I think you suck ; ) As Bono said, “One life, with each other..sisters…brothers!”

Note:: Opinions are like a**holes, everyone…we all have em! Please, respect each other here…listen…even if you dont agree. No name calling. I have a confession…The topic here (black history month/BET) is not what my message was about… I just knew it would get a lot more attention if I used it as an example. My message is to BECOME ONE. AMERICANS, celebrate things as such, not label them this or that…Black History month should NOT go away…but it should have it’s name changed to AMERICAN HISTORY..and be made into a few months…to teach us EVERYTHING about our history…not just focus on one race. Yep, I have a hippie view of the world, and I dont care!! I am not saying to stop celebrating and remebering our history, good or bad. I AGREE that we need to teach MORE on american history concerning what we teach during “black History month”. I am not writing this to take away anything from anyone…we need MORE OF IT, but WITHOUT the race title!!!!

she really needs to shut the fuck up.
    she’s such a hypocrite IMO.

  • Jess

I’m Chinese (another minority) and I must admit, I do agree. I feel very much neglected in this country and I never understood why there are never any other history months to represent MY people.

I don’t think you can really understand this unless you’re another minority yourself.

  • Carla

Whatever! We as African Americans get ONE MONTH – the shortest of them all and believe me….most Americans don’t even respect that month! Take your issues to Jena, LA and see how far that gets you. She really needs to shut up and do her homework. BET won’t miss her…TRUST!

  • Melis

Wow, I think that she has good intentions but is really uneducated on this issue. In theory we should all be one but in reality there are some race’s that have in the past and still are suffering from oppression and we must first solve these problems before we are one.

  • Nic

    Well..I won’t touch that..That is a loaded gun!
Whether i agree or not..If she feels so passionate about it.She should have chosen a better format and venue..I think she wants publicity…And that is the saddest of all…

There are both American Indian History Month and Asian Pacific American Heritage Month.

  • lula29

There is an Asian history month, it’s sad you don’t know that honestly #3. Google it.

Adrian Curry’s 15 min has been over for so long. Yesterday I saw her on Dr. Phil, her and her sugardaddy. She’s pathetic.

Black History month wasn’t created because Black people suffered so much in America. It’s really about highlighting contribution made to America that would otherwise be forgotten by mainstream society. It’s a shame that mainstream society doesn’t acknowledge the contribution of others and would otherwise turn a blind eye to such contributions, and hopefully in the future the case will be that there is no need to emphasize such contributions by creating a month dedicated to them. I’d like to know how much Ms. Curry knows about Black history, honestly, the only part of Black history she seems obsessed with is Black slavery. Contributions made by Black people in this country goes far beyond slavery, how insulting.

Anyway, BET should be boycotted due to it’s crap programming. And BET isn’t the only other station that caters to a certain ethnic group. There’s also Univision, Asian television depending on what part of the US you live. Why single out BET?

Adrian Curry obviously doesn’t care for Black people much. Tyra should revoke her Top Model status, ‘cuz if it wasn’t for that Black woman no one would even know who the hell Adrian Curry was.

  • Sheri

My mother is teacher and she made sure black history month was recognized, why look at the history books, very little is said! I’m black and there have more contributions besides Frederick Douglas! Somebody needs to slap Miss thing into reality!

  • bataglio

melis: so they should let it go. if blacks were wronged at some point, but we are all supposed to have mended fences and now look beyond race, why devote a month to dredging it back up? it’s nothing but reverse racism.

  • cudahy

    ohhhh heeeell naaaa

  • Angelina

She is such a typical white girl. I dated this guy named “Justin” who was the blackest of the blackest-like Alek Wek. When people try to justify they are not racist they always make claims that make them sound SUPER racist. Saying that she dated a black guy who was extremely dark does not validate her stance at all. And “dated” should not be equated with let him cum in her cunt. She needs to shut her pretty little mouth and let her cunt do the work–it got her this far.

  • jean

  • Carley

I agree with her. I am sick of people saying all they want is equality, but having a month completely dedicated to one group is absurd and not equal. Racism is diminishing, we only hear about it nowadays because it is the exception, not the norm. The common arguments of black poverty and the ghetto as examples of inequality are remnants of a previous era that has not yet been successfully overcome, but they are improving, against all speculation to the contrary.
I have spent the past 4 years studying and researching this particular topic, so, while I may not be of the minority myself, I do have access and knowledge that goes beyond the often ignorant people on these types of message boards.

  • Asian girl

I agree with her. It’s funny how black people can have BET and it is not racist. If there is a white entertainment channel, all other races will jump up to protest. Any activity, fund, organization etc. sets up for people of one race is racist. Black people make themselves different and separated from other races by playing race card in everything from getting job, being fired, going to jail, being arrested etc.

  • Bite me

I see someones looking for attention

  • JAck

Are you serious. She went from being a top model to a jackass.

Why single out the Blacks. It is National Hispanic Month Right NOW!!!!

  • sonhadora

there is as asian heritage month (may) and an american indian heritage month (november), and a hispanic heritage month(mid sept-mid oct),…. black history month is just more well-marketed than the rest. if we lived in a perfect society we wouldn’t needs months to celebrate our diversity, we’d celebrate it year round, but the world isn’t perfect.

  • Bite me

Maybe she should use google… because almost every minority in this country have a month that celebrates their heritage

  • e

I watched the show “growing up Brady” and thought she is a little childish. However, I think she is quite a smart girl after reading her older post about someone broken into her car and this time the race stuff…

Morgan Freeman once said the easiest way to get rid of racism is to not mention them. I get sick when there is a suspect on loose, the news would not mention “black” or “African American” but if victim is black, then the news would love to make a fcuking big story out of it…

They get rid of Lincoln’s day and Washington’s day, but still have this MLK’s day and Cesar chavez’s day. I think that is total BS. As a Chinese, I live here in the USA and I’m an American, I never try to force the government to honor us a Chinse month or so. When does it end? Should we have a Gandhi’s day,Bruce Lee’s day, Japanese day and etc?

I personally thing those black history month is for people who like to whine and cry out loud so they can get attention and free college edcation for free. After, slavery is history and it is at least 150 years ago, why can people move on? As a Chinese, I don’t cry about the Japanese torturing my great-grandpa during WW II, I don’t whine about Chinese being used as free labour buring Gold Rush Era…

People need to get a real lives and move on!

  • Anne

this girl is a complete idiot, boy does she play into the stereotype that models are dumb. why isn’t there a White History Month you say? Because every month is one. Christopher Columbus and other European explorers stole land from and massacred hundred and thousands of Indians on their way to “discover” the New World, and our children are only taught about how great they are? And when we turn on our TVs, all we see is a White Image, please don’t try to argue with his point by citing Oprah, Tyra, etc. Every leading character of a prime-time TV show is White, and here this idiot is saying that we don’t need Black History Month? That we’re all the same? We’re not all the same because our history is founded on racist principles (Slave trade, laws that would only allow white males to own property, Immigration Laws for Europeans but against natives of other countries, our 50+ white presidents).

she does not get this because she is a white, and by being white only she is privileged, of which she obviously can’t see how privileged she is. dating a black guy for a while is not the same as being black your life and living in America and taunted with racial slurs. this girl just doesn’t get it.

  • wtf?

What is wrong with her? aside from desperately seeking attention. She talks about destroying Native American society. Uh… hon…forefathers did that too in other countries during colonization, slave trading, creating new countries/borders in mixed tribal lands. She is an idiot who needs a lesson in remedial history. She needs to spend some time not trying to be ignorant and racist.

  • xxxxx

Actually, she is the one raising an educated, academic point that one will find in many scholarly articles: to continue to position (think and speak of) something as separate or “minority” is to only continually reinforce its minority status against the dominant, hegemonic force.

  • Admonisher

Its about time SOMEONE on this planet had the balls to say what everyone else is thinking. God bless her and I agree 100%!!! Get over it blacks, your not the only race on the planet who has been oppressed and enslaved….your just the only race that has a viable platform (America) for lauding guilt over people. I for one will continue to ignore black history month….lets have an Asian- American history month, a Jewish American history month, Hispanic American history month and every race that makes up this great country!!

Your not special..your just one of us..and thats why you don’t want you “time in the spotlight” to go away.

I’m so over the “guilt” of slavery…..

    Wait a second????????????

Did Black people mistreatment Native Americans???????????? No they didn’t!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Were Native Americans slaves in this country for over 40 years and then after they were released from slavery did they have to endure years of segregation and racism? NO Do they have a group called the KKK attacking them at every corner? no they don’t.

This woman is stupid. I love everybody and just let me say. Native Americans have been hit hard, but African Americans deserve that fcuking month.

We haven’t gotten any money or casinos for slavery. we don’t have nothing.

    How dare she say that??????????

You need to some research Adrianne Curry, and every person and other people wanna forget slavery and the civil right movement.

Black history month helps honor that. We need that month, hell its only fcuking a month and its not a full one at that. Depending on the year, its a short one. Its all we have.

It honors Martin Luther King Jr. and all the people who helped get us equal rights in this country.

I love everyone, but if you don’t know what the fcuk your talking about don’t say something like that.

This woman don’t even got no Native American blood in her.

  • Melis

bataglio: I’m not necessarily talking about African Americans i’m from Australia and here our indigenous people are still being oppressed and it largely goes unrecognised by much of the population. There are very big issues regarding health (on average they die 17 years earlier than the rest of the population), their treatment while in custody, access to facilities, acknowledgement of their cultures and heritage, native land rights…the list just goes on and on. It is issues like this that must be resolved before we can all be united as one. In terms of America, for many African Americans, a system of oppression exists through the education system. If schools in certain communities (particularly the ghettos) are not equally subsidised for education, students are less likely to get into college and so earn a higher wage as an adult and so remain in a lower class of society. It is ignorant people who refuse to acknowledge these apparently inherent differences that prevent them being resolved.

  • Simone

Oh, what a dingbat! Andrianne, your lack of higher education is really demonstrated in your silly little rant.

In deconstructing your silliness: Firstly, rather, than an American history ‘month, we ALREADY have SEVERAL holidays in this country to celebrate the many facets of our country’s history:

Every January – Martin Luther King Day: Check
Every February – Presidents Day: Check
Every May – Memorial Day: Check
Every July – (the 4th) Independance Day: Check
Every September – Labor Day: Check
    Every November – Thanksgiving: Check

Thanksgiving IS viewed by most people as a rememberance of the native americans — and their geneocide at the hands of the european settlers — adespite the warped narrative of ‘pilgrims and indians breaking bread’ friendly story in children’s history educational books.

As far as black history month – it’s not only us, America, who has a black history month; Canada and the UK does as well. And it’s purpose seems a valid one: a reminder of the evils of racial prejudice, the wrong-doing of their lingered socio-economical oppression, and a celebration of the many African-Americans, often direct descendants of those who were at one time enslaved in this country, and the achievements many have made prior to and since the recunstructon.

And the rest of our American history holidays: predominately the celebration of the country’s world ‘superpower’ status.

  • It’s Britney, b*tch

do people know that the entire world doesn’t revolve around America?

    just wondering

  • tickled

    o shu- taaappp model… gosh!

when people stop torturing other cuz of their color or when tiger woods can play on every golf course in america, than they can get rid of black history month.

  • margaret

We should ban Saint Patrick’d Day If you want to celebrate your Irish heritage go to Ireland .

  • RC

I agree to some extent. I love when ever a white person says something about a black person, their called a racist. If a black person says something about a white person it’s “freedom of speech”. I am a Proud Black Woman, but i must say black people play the race cad a lot more than everyone else. BET is BLACK ENTERTAINMENT TELEVISION, there isn’t a specific White Entertainment Television program. So whose being racist there????????

  • xxxxx

Also, this is a most salient point:

“What happened to the African American community was AMERICAN HISTORY, not BLACK HISTORY.”

  • A

I don’t know why wanting to recognize diversity is seen as racist. Black history month isn’t about making someone different it is about recognizing the contribution that African Americans have made to this country, same as every other ethnic history month. Cultural and Ethnic diversity should be respected. Racism is not recognizing that people have different cultures, it is instead using physical differences to create superiority and oppression. If we got rid of cultural awareness, every minority would be assimilated in the white mainstream. If you don’t believe me, look at films, media, and music. It is only through cultural stations, magazines, films, and books that minorities are even represented. Let’s be honest. America has a history of genocide and oppression since columbus landed, and it is naive to think that our country can simply forget the past four hundred years of discrimination in the 53 years since the civil rights act.

  • Regina

I don’t know who she is but I agree!

  • mycaela

wow, she doesnt even know what she’s talking about. i agree with lulu29.

  • Regina

Everyone is the same and with Black History Month, it’s separating everyone’s race. It’s not right! Black people have come a long way since Martin Luther King spoke his mind and I applaud them but it’s just not right. It’s about time our society joined together and stop breaking all these races together with silly things like Asian History Month or Black History Month!

  • one more thing…

… let’s not forget that only 40 yrs ago Blacks couldn’t drink from certain water fountains or ride public transport.
getting rid of this month would be stupid.

  • Pointy Hat

She’s got a point. Somewhere. Maybe instead of singling out one particular race – there could be something like Compassion Month, where all races are obliged to show compassion to each other.

  • Bri

Yeah alot of people dont like this girl but she has a point. There may be other months dedicated to different races but do you hardly ever even hear about them??? Like black history month, there is stuff all over TV talking about it but I dont see anyone talking about Asian month or Jewish month etc. the black people in america went through alot of shit back in the day and that month is dedicated to those and the people that abolished slavery and fought for freedom. But there are white people and different races as well that fought for them to be free but they arent recognized. This is probably why she wrote this post because every person who made a difference should be recognized, not just because of the color of their skin. I respect the month but i think we really should have an “american history” month.

  • xxxxx

We should never forget injustices committed, but to continue to separate people is to perpetuate the racist discriminatory thinking that allows the majority groups in power to remain there, and the “minority” groups to remain as such.

  • amle

    i agree with Adrianne.

  • essie

lol did this woman even go to school?? did she ever crack open her history book?? obviously not, cuz then she would know why there’s a black history month.

We need that month. I am sorry, we do need it. There are other races who gets months. In China Town in Chicago they have a month. I know in Chicago Hispanics get a month. I am sorry don’t throw that playing the race card bullsh*it at me. I am all for everyone, but that month is important. How dare she try and take that away. Some schools only have black students and I find it hard to believe that white students celebrate black history month anyway, please correct if I am wrong, so she needs to STFU. Its for Black people, we need it. I am sorry. Screw her.

  • andrea

things always get nutty when the “race card” is brought up. i think im going to stay out of this one.

  • baly

I totally agree with her. I hate it when some group of people crying for equality and yet they want special treatment. If they do not get what they wanted they will cry racism. Like the Martin Luther King day. He was not even a president and yet he was given a day to a peace the blacks.

  • Hugo

Obviously this woman do not have a historical grasp or the perspective on race in it’s proper context.

Firstly, one cannot speak about one race then bring in all of the other races by saying this race is mistreated theirfore they deserve to have a certain status over another race. Black people as a race until forty years ago (1967) were still being lynched, they were not allowed to vote, they were still excluded from living in certain areas ( and that is still the case in most places in America today) they still make less than other Americans, and they are still disporportionatley sentenced by the criminal justice system need I continue. There are more black people in jail than any other people in America. Read about the Jena 6 and many more cases that target young black men for harsher punishment when they come in front of the criminal justice system.

Secondly, the reason we have a black history month is because our history has not been documented in any of America’s history books. Our achievements and contributions to American and the world were deliberaely excluded from the history of this country. As a result Black History Month was created to teach (young) black people about our race and our contributions to society.

Thirdly, our race was enslaved for over four hundred years. No other race has been held in slave for half that amount of time. It is black slave labour that build up this country from the south and up. I am not sure if you are aware but slave labour means without pay. So Black people and generations upon generations of blacks worked for over four hundred years without pay to build America, Great Britain, Spain, Portugal, Brazil, Canada, France, Italy. You name the country African slaves worked and died building up their economies.

Fourth, I do not think someone such as yourself with your basic miseducation has the right to disrespect my race, my people and our contributions to this country and the world. Please remember that for hundreds of years during and after slavery and still many many years after the emancipaion of slavery in the middle 1800′s blacs not allowed to attend schools it was against he law in most staes in this country for a black person to be educated.

As well we as a race were terriorized by the Klu Klux Klan who were sanctioned by American lawmakers for many many years into the 19th century.

I am tempted to forgive you for your rant about this issue under the guise of caring about all people and write it off to ignorance but I am gathering that your purpose for writint this piece is coming from a place of publicity seeking. It is wrong to continue to perpetuate one injustice in order to advance your own personal goals.

Finally, a great philosohper once said something to this affect a little knowledge is worst than no knowledge. Be informed before you speak on topics of historical relevance because to do so is no simple task.

    Walk Good.

  • Ame

    im like lost of words
    she should just
    shut up lol

  • magnus

    She’s right.

    You racist pricks are wrong.

  • bfhf

we shouldnt have any months dedicated to anyone. wheres Caucasian month??!?

  • Kristin

I think black people are whinning to much. First they say they want to be equal, but wait we need our own history month and tv station. SO wait you want to be equal, but want your own stuff. I don’t get it. Where’s southern history month. I want to learn about my heritage. I want to learn about my suffering. Not yours. Black people need to get over. It has been long enough that they should move on. I am sick of the crap.
