Drew Barrymore's Grey Gardens

Drew Barrymore films scenes her new movie Grey Gardens around Centre Island in Toronto, Canada. She plays ‘Little’ Edith Bouvier Beale while Jessica Lange reportedly plays “Big Edie’.

Synopsis: Based on the life stories of the eccentric aunt and first cousin of Jackie Kennedy (both named Edith Bouvier Beale aka “Big and Little Edie”) raised as Park Avenue débutantes but who withdrew from New York society, taking shelter at their Long Island summer home, Grey Gardens. As their wealth and contact with the outside world dwindled, so did their grasp on reality. They were reintroduced to the world when international tabloids learned of a health department raid on their home, and Jackie swooped in to save her relatives.

The 32-year-old actress is still dating one-time Apple plugger Justin Long.

I think this is Drew portraying Little Edie in the feature film adaption of “Grey Gardens”. She looks amazing! I do wonder if Jessica Lange is still doing it…

    Does anyone know?

  • Regina

I love these pictures because it shows that Drew does not have a perfect body and she doesn’t care and she’s not trying to be perfect.

  • Just Jared

Thanks everybody, I edited the entry!

  • Kaelyn

No human being is perfect, from contorted noses, rickety-style legs, mis-shapen lips, weird skinny looking & bony thighs, cellulite, the list goes on and on, NO ONE is perfect, EVERYONE has a deformity[internal or external] and it says a lot about you as an individual if you’re willing to admit/accept/show your imperfections for all to see. It is time people stopped looking at photoshopped magazine covers thinking that the pictures on the covers of their favorite celebs are indeed reality. This is what is wrong with the world today, no wonder children grow up with self-esteem and image problems.

  • Natalie

She is so beautiful. I love her style and how she seems real and down to earth.

Jeez those cameras catch everything don’t they

  • Alexis

She is beautiful she is fabulous she is a woman not a Beverly Hills mannequin. The way she moves the expressions on her face she looks just like Edie. She will be terrific.

  • no no no

This remake is a bad bad idea.

Get some original ideas and scripts Hollywood.

  • John

This makes no sense casting-wise…Little Edie was 57 when the Health Department thing went down in 1974/75, the documentary that introduced us to the eccentricities of Little Edie was made in 1976 (she died at age 80 in 2002), Big Edie was 80-ish (Jessica is how old?). The hit Broadway play Grey Gardens had actress’s who were close to those ages play those ages …I don’t get it…Unless they are doing a totally new angle where each character is MUCH younger, like 20 years before Grey Gardens…otherwise, Drew is TOO young and not skilled enough to pull off Little Edie’s accent and her mannerisms..I mean Little Edie was NUTS, I don’t see Drew being able to pull her nuerotic, paranoid and child-like ticks off. She could barely do an english accent in that Cinderella thing she did..”just breath”…oh whatever…love Drew though.
If you haven’t seen Grey Gardens or the follow up to it (the doco that shows all of Little Edies ripped and torn up creations plus more of the poor house that was barely standing) PLEASE rent it, absolutely amazing.

  • Kelly

    holy droopy boobs!

  • John

I’d also like to point out that Little Edie had to wear headscarves ALL THE TIME because she either had lost all her hair naturally or she had pulled it out in clumps herself because of her neurosis. Drew has a full head of flowing hair here…this should tell us alot about what direction they are exploring with the film, probably the time that Little Edie had to move back to Grey Gardens to take care of her mother when her mother didn’t want to be alone, which is the time that Little Edie gave up her life for her mother and subsequently became “eccentric” and “a staunch character”….if you haven’t seen the documentary RENT IT NOW!!!

  • lauren

Love Drew. Absolutely despise the fact that they are making a movie of my all-time favorite movie. (I was spitting nails when I heard about the Broadway Musical) If you want to see “Grey Gardens”, get your hands on the original. There is nothing better.

    N O T H I N G!

I’m just waiting for Tom Cruise to re-make “Citizen Kane.” ‘Cause you know he will.

  • Alexis

I don’t know why some people seem to have so much difficulty grasping the fact that this film is about the decades leading up to the raid and the Maysles documentary. Edie wasn’t born 56 and bald you know she had hair we’ve seen pictures of it. I doubt that Drew would have the role if she can’t do the accent she knows there are a lot of dedicated Edie fans out there I think she’ll do just fine.

  • lauren

Drew is a very limited actress. Love her personality, but no way.

  • Alexis

We’ll just have to keep an open mind I’m sure that the subject is an inspiration to her and she’ll do good work. This is unlike anything she’s ever done before. People who are fond of Edie really should be encouraging and positive not picking away at Drew.

  • Del

Drew is in a very time specific scene in these shots. To illustrate, here is a photo of Little Edie at the time Drew is playing her:

The resemblance is dead on. There are tons of other photos of Little Edie on this website. I find it very sad. She was certainly a stunning woman before she lost her bloody mind.

  • aw!

Why she’s in any movie is beyond me! She can’t act at all and her lisp and crooked mouth ruin anything she tries to remember and say. “Well, thit, I juss have to memorithe these worths.” Loser!

  • mike

Well why remake a classic movie or documentary. It just comes off as a desperate attempt to cash in on the greatness of the original work.

Drew is a shallow actress, thats why she’s good in comedies. No brainers, she’s not that smart or deep.

  • mike

Drew should take some acting classes or give up trying to play anything but comedies.

The audience has given her many chances and she has made millions playing herself. Please don’t blame the audience for Drew’s lack of range.

  • mike

If you are going to go there and rip off a clasic, at least do a good job casting. Gwenyth Paltrow would have been more appropriate.

Drews production company financed the movie, that’s why she cast herself in the lead role. Bad idea!

  • Alexis

How do you know? It might be t that very limited perception that has kept her from being offered more challenging and serious parts .Lots of actors known primarily for doing light romances and comedies have surprised audiences by doing excellent work in dramatic roles. I think people are being unkindly critical and with no good reason.

  • el polacko

i like drew but i’m sorry.. when you look at drew, you see drew .. NOT little edie. this has got to be one of the worst casting decisions ever.

  • Marjorie McQuillan

This scene is set in the late 1930′s. The movie depicts what really happened to the women based upon Edie’s own journals, letters and saved family documents. It isn’t based upon the musical or the documentary. Drew desperately wanted this role, and has worked for months perfecting the voice and mannerisms. Do you think she and the creative team are not aware of all of these fan concerns. Wait until yo see the attention to detail this film provides. Give these people a chance.

  • hello

Her damned mouth moves sideways when she talks and gives her a weird screwed up looking appearance. She should not be an actress with diction like that.

  • hello

. I think people are being unkindly critical and with no good reason.

Oh please wah wah wah. Cry Cry Cry.
She’s made millions out of being an average actress.

I saw LUcky you or me? with Eric Bana.. And please don’t blame the audience for Drews lisp. Ok? That’s not acting.

  • hello

You know what the reality is that casting YOURSELF in the lead role is not always the best choice.

Just because Drew has her own production company doesn’t mean she should give up artistic integrity.

  • whatever

Whatever its’ like casting Angelina to play a biracial afro cuban woman. Or Rose getting her roles on the Rodriguez casting couch.

Get some real actors and actresses in these roles.
There are tons of SAG actors who can’t find jobs, and these
losers cast themselves. IT’s a JOKE.

  • c

Just because she made a lot of romantic comedy doesn’t mean she’s a limited actress. Everyone who said that is stupid. I bet you didn’t watch Amy Fisher, Doppelganger, Poison Ivy, MAD LOVE (especially), Riding in Cars with Boys… And it’s not a lot of celulite. Every NORMAL woman got it. If you see that picture bigger she looks HOOOOOT. And yeah, to me seems a very attractive body. Natural woman.

  • Pamela

Man, you americans got some problem! Gosh, everyone is SO JUDGMENTAL! I’ve never seen that. Just see the imperfections on people!!! I met Drew and she’s totally hot! And I don’t see any problem with her fucking mouth! She’s A PERSON!!! GO TAKE CARE OF YOUR CELULLITE, ’cause I BET you all got more than her and doesn’t have a hot body like her! Living in that country with that alimentation I so bet. GOOOOOOOD, YOU’RE PATHETICS!!!! I think you all envy her. Look at that pictures bigger… she looks awesome! You’re a lot of fat stupid boring people! WAKE UPPPPPPP!

  • oh whatever

Dude…this is a CLASSIC documentary. You should see it. This batty mother and her batty mother live in a crumbling old mansion with no electricity. They constantly talk about the “good old days” and the daughter even feeds the raccoons that live in their attic. It’s sad.

The fact that they’re making it into a movie is pathetic. Can’t we let classics remain classics?

  • rach

god, that comments are ridiculous. seems like you envy her because she really has a good body. so what she’s got cellulite (a little of). every woman has. hahaha, i don’t know if i want to cry or laugh at this.

  • rach

oh, and for sure she’s a loser. you’re more loser losing your precious time on internet. she doesn’t have time to do it. she doesn’t care about what you fucking assholes are saying. she works and is rich. THIS IS A LOSER? think about it, stupid.

  • Alexis

I think Drew will be prove her ability with this performance

  • Rodolph

    Holy crap, she looks HOT.

  • ….

    you guys are sadly pathetic.
