Kanye West Rocks GQ's Men of the Year

Kanye West Rocks GQ's Men of the Year

Kanye West is on one of three separate Men of the Year covers for GQ magazine per USA Today.

The others cover stars are Bill Clinton and Daniel Craig. The issue hit newsstands Nov. 27.

Kanye doesn’t talk about his mother to the magazine, but he does discuss the possibility of marriage to his fiancee, Alexis Phifer.

“I’m just going to go and get married,” Kanye said. “I’m not going to make a big deal out of it. It’s not to prove anything to anyone — it’s for me, for stability in my life, and I’m so happy that I found someone that I really love, that challenges me, that keeps my life interesting, that’s just as crazy as I am.”

Watch the video below of Kanye in concert Saturday in Paris–he breaks down in tears while fans cheered him on. (His mom Donda passed away earlier this month.)

I’m surprised he still did the show, i would not have blamed him for not showing up. But I bet his mom is real proud that he did go.

  • alex

i am truly surprised he went out on stage. and as sorry as i am for him, there’s still a little voice at the ack of my head telling me that this all was just for publicity. i know, i’m a horrible person, and i know he is going through probably the worst thing that’s ever gonna happen to him (and let’s all hope so) but if he knew that sth like this could have happened he never should have gone out. they would have probably found some last minute replacement or sth.

  • Kirsty

    aw :( Sad

That was just too sad to watch, he made me cry with him :-(
I have always loved Kanye as a performer, no one can deny that he is incredibly talented. His mom was his world and I can only imagine what he is going through. My heart goes out to him.

He’s had such an amazing year, and for this to happen…I already get emotional hearing “Hey Mama” but this here really puts me over the edge. R.I.P. Dr. Donda West. Glad he did the show though, because real artist’s do that which they love most to keep afloat, and Dr. Donda would have wanted nothing more than to see her talented son put smiles on his fans faces. He definitely deserves the GQ Man of the Year title!

  • Elona

Very sad indeed. Watching that just made me wanna hug him too…RIP for his mother and I think it’s great that he had the courage to let his emotions out instead of keeping them inside.

@ alex: that was NOT publicity..i was there, at this concert, in paris and i can tell you that the emotion took him over because he performed during almost 2 hours all of his song from good morning, jesus walks, touch the sky, good life i mean EVERYTHIN with so much energy and when he arrived to Hey Mama he just couldnt say a word and he broke down in tears which was just so emotional and then his backup singer, dj a trak and common came to hold him and then he came back for the last song of his show: stronger and i can tell you that he was STRONGER than ever
    This man is a GENIUS

  • hottest couple ever

He is a fine young man..from a good woman.

No that wasn’t a publicity stunt. If it were, there would have been clearer footage. Several fans who attended the show videoed it with their phones from the stands and have posted it on the internet. None of them are of high quality but you can see it.

Also, he was suppose to perform on the AMA but canceled due to grief over his Mom’s death. replaced him in a days notice.

Kanya had to perform. Performers have musicians, rodies, back up singers with families that are depending on Kanye. It is very mature of him to continue to work, while he is grieving. Because I would not have gotten out of bed for a month if my Mom died from plastic surgery. I worked with a woman whose son had scoliosis. Although, he did not have severe scoliosis, she elected for the surgery because he would neglect to wear his brace regularly, and he was an over weight child which makes the alignment of the spin more curved. Quite frankly it was easier for my collegue to have it immediately corrected than having to stay on her son for 3 more years and force him to diet. Her son woke up from surgery and couldn’t feel his legs, he was paralized from the waiste down. My collegue was devasted because the surgery wasn’t necissary. She literally was beginning to loose it..she was going a little nuts. She then revolved her entire life around her son. They lived in a two story house, and they moved into a ranch style house for him. He was son was only 15 yrs old and paralyzed unesisarily. To make matters worse, 2 or 3 years later he dued from a blood clot. My collegue has been bonkers every since.

Needless to say Alex, your little voice in the back of your head is sign of you going bonkers too. You got to be nuts to say something so insensative knowing how close Kanya west was with his Mom. Really.

Because There are thousands of people that will be affected if he doesn’t show up or keep cancelling.

So I applaud him for not just thinking of himself and his feelings. This is Christmas season and it would be sad if he could keep with his commitments.

alex, you are a dumbass. enough said.

  • cee cee

alex i dont believe you feel sorry for him if you did you wouldnt make a dumb azz statement about a publicity stunt, how dare you dont you knw that some people keep GROUNDED in their work to ease the pain. HOW EFFING DARE YOU SAY SOMETHING THAT MEAN AND HEARTLESS. RIP DONDA WEST AND KEEP STRONG KANYE. WE ALL LOVE YOU AND HAVE YOUR BACK

  • tina marie

i agree cee cee…….. thats was real mean to make that remark, and all the stupid people who dont like his music keep that to your self. If you dont like it so what, he has enough of his own people to enjoy his music. If you dont like it dont listen simple as that. idont like country western music , but i dont go around talking bad about it i just dont listen to it. thats the classy way to do things. rip donda west.

  • Natalie

Kanye has been through one of the hardest things ANYONE could ever experience. It is painful for me to watch that video clip and see him (or any person) hurting that way. My thoughts & prayers are with Kanye and his family. May Donda Rest In Peace.

I can’t believe some of you would say this is a publicity stunt… ugh. If you have ever been through something difficult in your life, you know you can’t fake this kind of pain. Now is not the time to be petty or criticize Kanye as a person or artist. Just wish him the best.

i am truly surprised he went out on stage. and as sorry as i am for him, there’s still a little voice at the ack of my head telling me that this all was just for publicity. i know, i’m a horrible person,

Alex, clearly you know nothing about loss. Or the strength people get immediately after great loss. There are great stories of athletes, singers, performers you name it who instead of succumbing to loss – go out and do the very thing the person they lost would want them to do – continue to live life like they had before.

It takes a real trooper to stand in front of thousands after your mother died so tragically and unexpectedly. His mother would have wanted him to keep performing. What do you want him to do? Crawl in a corner and die too?

He is not being a victim instead he is going on with his life. He will decide when it is time to take a break but maybe right now all he can do is perform. Who are you to judge? How dare you suggest that this is for publicity? Be careful of words you use. NEVER judge people after such great loss.

I saw Hunter TWylo on Larry King last week after she lost her son a week aftger he drowned. Instead of crawling in a hole, she is doing press tours and talking about seizures and the medical condition which may have caused him to die. She is being a brave mother.

I did not understand how a mother finds the strength to even talk to people after losing her son so unexpectedly then I realized she was doing what her son wants her to do. And she said this too.

You should be ashamed of yourself for even writing what you wrote. ANd if you were truly sorry – you would have thought it but you would not have written it. You are not sorry.

But you are right about ONE thing: you ARE a horrible person.

I love Kanye West and wish him and his lady the best of luck – even though he should be with me, I hope he’s happy. He’s a gorgeous and talented man.

I really feel for him with what he’s going through. Nothing compares to losing your mother (I lost mine suddenly and unexpectedly, too, a little over a year ago.). I’m glad to see his fans pouring out their love and support – he’ll need both.

  • mari

That was so sad. All the time you hear about celebrity’s parents dying. But with Kanye it’s like a lot of people felt his pain, including me. You could tell he abd his mom had a very strong relationship, and it’s such an unfortunate and devastating loss.

  • http://http:/bel23 bel23

His mom died so suddenly. What a shock. At 58! I don’t know what I would do. How tragic. Maybe she rest in peace. What a sad story.

  • Naomi

    Hey, lay off alex, please.
He/She is clearly knowledging Kanye’s pain, and is simply considering that maybe it could theoretically be a publicity stunt. Thing is, it’s obviously not a publicity stunt.

But damn, don’t burn him/her at the stake for just being sceptical.
If alex did not show any compassion for Kanye, then ok he/she deserve all the remarks. But it seems clear to me that alex is feeling ashamed of even thinking about something like that! To me that’s the sign of someone decent enough.

Everyone deal with grief their own way. When my grandfather died, I went to school, passed tests, etc. When my best friend’s dad passed away, she “disappeared” for two weeks because she wanted to be alone.

  • andrea

sabes no me gusta el artista pero la cancion stronger

my condolences goes out to kanye and his family, be strong, everything happens for a reason

  • a realist

I believe Kanye did the show, because it is what his mother would have wanted him to do. RIP Dr. Donda West.

  • a realist

He is grieving, but through his grief his mother would want him to go on with the show. Kanye, stay strong, you have a lot of people pulling for you out here. Our hearts are with you. May God grant you peace and comfort in this time of great loss. RIP Dr. Donda West.

hi, guys, nice discussion… but, do you love to try something new? how about enjoying interracial hot dating on my world,I am a hot girl, shy at first, but friends say I am witty, humorous, and fun to be around you will be surprised…

  • tina marie

  • Naomi

Wow, tina marie, no need to shout, honey.
Apprently, you do think some people are just mean for the sake of it. I don’t. I guess I’m naive enough to think people aren’t pure evil. I know, I’m that stupid.

But hey, if trying to ease the tone a bit is a crime, then find me guilty. You, on the other hand, is so innocent.

  • Naomi

    are* so innocent.

    Sorry about that. :p
