Dennis Quaid's Twins Given Accidental Overdose

Dennis Quaid's Twins Given Accidental Overdose

Dennis Quaid and wife Kimberly Buffington‘s newborn twins, Thomas Boone and Zoe Grace, are fighting for their lives.

According to TMZ, the kids allegedly were given an accidental drug overdose at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.

The babies, born Nov. 8 to a surrogate, were accidentally given close to 1,000 times the necessary dosage of Heparin (an anti-coagulant) and began to “bleed out” Sunday night.

The infants are currently in stable condition at the neonatal intensive care unit and are being given Protamine, which reverses the effects of Heparin.

Quaid‘s rep issued the following statement: “Dennis and Kimberly appreciate everyone’s thoughts and prayers, and hope they can maintain their privacy during this difficult time.”

Our prayers and thoughts go out to the family.

This is just terrible news. Horrible. Right now, suing should be the very last thing on their minds. Getting those babies well and hoping they won’t suffer any permanent damage is all anyone can hope for. I will pray for them. Once they get past this, I would put that damned hospital out of business. Suing them is just a start. But that comes later. I am certain the person repsonsible is probably suicidal right now and probably has been disciplined as well. These things usually happen bcz of carelessness and sometimes the people working are over tired and not paying attention. It is no excuse at all, but it might explain things a bit.

    WHAT?!?!

That is really terrible. They most definetely should sue. Kim, Dennis and the twins are in my prayers.

This could be a myth but I was told a few years back that when there was a strike by medical workers (in Toronto?) the death rate declined radicaly.
Sometimes it seems that hospitals are little more than medical bureaucracies. What a travesty; what a tragedy!

  • Didi

this happened to my sister in law except it was a morphine overdose after the baby had a heart operation. it was on the news about 9 years ago. the baby died and all we got from the mother*fuckers at the hospital was a letter of apology so a year later we sued their arse and obviously won. It doesnt make things better and the baby wont come back but at least someone is held responsible, thats why people sue, its not for the money.

About these poor twins, I dont care if the person responsible is feeling suicidal or uses being ‘over-tired’ as an excuse. there is simply no justification for these mistakes especially when human beings are involved. if the person responsible had any conscience at all he/she would kill themselves for being a negligent murdering b*stard.

Didi, those are very harsh remarks. Yes, something should be done to make sure this does not happen again, however I don’t think the solution is for the health care worker to go kill his or herself. This was not intentional or malicious, yes it was a very costly error. But telling someone to go commit suicide is NOT a solution to this mistake. My prayers and thoughts are with everyone involved, and I also pray for you and your family in hopes that there is some peace found in all of this. Mistakes ARE going to happen, we are humans and not computers. I am not making excuses for this healthcare worker, however please lay off a bit. I am sure he or she feels bad enough and does not need your bitterness. There are 2 important things here..obviously the wellfare of those babies, but also the sanctity of the healthcare system. I am sure there will be measures taken so that this mistake does not happen again. Again I pray for all those involved and hope you find peace.

This truly is a sad situation to occur from both sides. From one side I can empathize with Dennis and his family. I can’t imagine what they must have been feeling or going through and for that my heart goes out to them. And on the other side I can SOMEWHAT empathize with the nurse who made the mistake. Yes, people in the medical field do make mistakes, we’re all human, and there is that risk you’re taking putting your life or someone you love into the hands of another even if they are trained or whatever. HOWEVER, the part that makes me want to take that back and slap that R.N. is that nurses are supposed to check the patient, drug, and dosage three times before giving it. I’m in the nursing program and they drill that into our heads here in Fl. So, this to me is NOT a mistake, it’s plain carelessness… just my opinion people :)

i hope the kids survive, and remain healthy

  • Here’s The Deal

How awful. It’s heartbreaking that two (as far as I know) healthy babies can become two sick babies just because of someone’s negligence. I agree with whoever said that suing should be the last thing on their minds right now; Wait until the babies are healthy, which hopefully will be soon.

My thoughts are with their family. ~~~

Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles can now officially kiss it’s ass GOODBYE.

  • Rae

This is awful. I know mistakes happen, but that doesn’t make them any less horrible. My heart and prayers go out to these babies and their family.

  • kimmy

    omg that is so sad!

  • Milly

This is a sad story. I feel bad for these small children.
However, I am not in favour of surrogacy, there are so many emotional (and legal) complications. I mean how does it feel for children to know that their mother didn’t carry them; to know that she wanted children but didn’t they were worth the weight gain or a bit of morning sickness. I ‘m not in favour of people who think everything is for sale, children should not be a commodity.
