Heath Ledger Locked Himself in Hotel For a Month

Earlier this week, Heath Ledger graced the cover of Empire Magazine’s January 2008 issue as the Joker. And now, a new image of has surfaced online via Wizard magazine (see left).

Empire has an interactive magazine of its latest issue but here are some interview snippets:

On a great deal of trepidation when approached for the part of the Joker: “I definitely feared it. Anything that makes me afraid I guess excites me at the same time. I don’t know if I was fearless, but I certainly had to put on a brave face and believe that I have something up my sleeve. Something different.”

On how he prepared the Joker’s sinister voice and laugh: “I sat around in a hotel room in London for about a month, locked myself away, formed a little diary and experimented with voices — it was important to try to find a somewhat iconic voice and laugh. I ended up landing more in the realm of a psychopath — someone with very little to no conscience towards his acts. He’s just an absolute sociopath, a cold-blooded, mass-murdering clown, and Chris [Nolan] has given me free rein. Which is fun because there are no real boundaries to what The Joker would say or do. Nothing intimidates him, and everything is a big joke.”

The Dark Knight arrives in theaters nationwide on July 18, 2008.

Ledger is a virtuoso with accents and speech, as he has shown in several movies. He has a wide range, wider by far than most US born actors. His accent in Brokeback, for example, was perfect and he kept it consistently throughout the movie, unlike Jake G. whose accent slipped on and off quite often. Jake has never really been able to do any accent other than rich kid from Hollywood. Ledger ran circles around him in Brokeback.

1 month locked in a hotel room… that made him crazy enough to ”embrace” the Joker role. And thinking twice, why did he had to lock himself in the hotel room? after all he is already kind of lunatic. Heath is not far to crossing the line of the insanity, the homeless clothes he’s wearing on the street, the ”sticking” thing that the people around him noticed. Heath has such taste in fashion, the same as Sharon Stone. Sharon got to be an expert at the ”hot MESS” http://www.7gfb.com/?p=874 . In all my previous comments on Heath I said that this guy is not ”normal”, and he really isn’t. Eva http://www.7gfb.com

Yeah he dresses oddly and seems kooky often in public. What lies behind that is unclear. He also is odd in his rare appearances on interview shows. So jumpy and fidgety it can hardly be believed. Whatever it is, it doesn’t damage his acting ability. Perhaps it even enhances it. Who knows? His performance in Brokeback should have gotten him an Oscar without a doubt. One of the best jobs in acting in decades.

I think Heath is a brilliant actor and he’s hot. I wish he would get someone to “handle” him as far as his “fashion sense” is concerned, bcz he is gross. And he looks like he has bathing issues. That is inexcusable. Heath deliberately calls attention to himself even tho he states that he doesn’t like attention at all. This is the wrong kind of attention. And if he is trying to score with women, he really needs to do something about his appearance. He is extrremely hot when he is on camera. I saw him in I’m Not There and he definitely has a sexy vibe.

Maybe Heath is a more versatile actor than Jake Gyllenhaal, but Jake’s solid too, no need to put him down. He looks good as the Joker!

Bad actor that is trying so hard.

He’s soooo weird; not The joker but Heath Ledger.

Of all the actors to play the role they chose him?

I don’t see the appeal

This made my must see list. I’m betting betting his acting will awe me. Pun intended.

That photo is shocking. The joker looks like a real sociopath. I hope he says something to the effect of, “They’ve suffered enough.”

Well I noticed that when Heath was with Michelle he dressed much better. The real shocker for me was when he was at the Venice Film Festival looking like a clown. Those shorts and red striped socks! Come on HEATH I know you can dress to the nines. I’ve seen you do it.

As far as him stinking unless you were there or know someone personally who was I’d give him the credit of the doubt. I don’t think he’d like to be stinking especially with his daughter with him. I think he needs a good woman to help him with his attire

I managed to snap up the Empire magazine on the first day of sale. He looks fantastic for the movie.
Heath is a dedicated actor. Not many would go to the extremes he does to get the voice right.
I loved him at the venice film festival closing ceremony. It’s not a clown outfit. It’s his yodelling gear. LOL He’s either a very brave man or doesn’t give a toss. Knowing a few Aussies I’d say doesn’t give a toss, but it’s not the clothes I’m interested in. It’s the man underneath. Well done Heath for being the man you are. You always put a smile on my face.

heath ledger is an absolute genius when it comes to acting. no one else could have done such an amazing job as he did. the dark knight is so captivating and the joker is a true villian, no super powers, just knives, his hilarious magic trick & a brilliant (in a crazy way) mind.

the best movie I have seen, hands down.

Ledger is a BRILLIANT actor.. after seeing him in the dark knight, i had a HUGE ******.
