Hayden Panettiere: Japan is a Joke!

SAVE THE CHEERLEADER WHALES, SAVE THE WORLD!

Actress and environmentalist Hayden Panettiere recently received a letter from the Japanese Government Fisheries Agency. Below is their letter and Hayden‘s response is below that:

————————

While respecting Ms. Panettierre’s personal feelings towards dolphins and her commitment to travel to Taiji to make her protest, I hope that your viewers will be reassured by the fact that Japan is carefully managing marine living resources for the future. The government’s fisheries policies are based on scientific information and take into account the opinions of the public.

Sincerely,

Takumi Fukuda
Fisheries Attache, Embassy of Japan
Washington, DC

————————

Dear Mr. Fukuda,

Rest assured our viewers and the public at large is appalled by Japanese whaling and fisheries practices. Even within your own country, recent polls show that over 77% of the Japanese public is against whaling while only 11% support it.

To say that Japan is carefully managing marine living resources for the future is a joke. Recent scientific studies have shown that over 90% of the world’s large fish have been depleted by over-fishing and Japan’s own factory-fishing fleets are largely responsible for this, decimating one species after another. Just recently, Japan was found to be in violation of its quota on endangered blue fin tuna. I cannot find one example where Japan has carefully managed any marine species.

In regards to dolphins and whales, Japan’s blatant disregard for these species is unfathomable. Japan is cruelly and needlessly butchering over 20,000 dolphins and other small cetaceans every year. There is no humane way to kill a dolphin or whale and scientific research shows that dolphin and whale meat is unhealthy for human consumption. Your own Government studies show dolphin and whale meat can contain up to 10-16 times the healthful level of mercury and that elevated levels of mercury have been proven to cause birth defects, neural damage, and death. As a result, several Japanese supermarket chains have pulled dolphin and whale meat from their shelves due to the health risks. Despite this however, your fisheries agency continues to advocate for the needless killing of dolphins and whales.

In addition, your whaling fleet is now planning to kill over 1,000 whales in the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary including endangered fin and humpback whales. There is nothing scientific about this slaughter. All the data being collected can be and is being collected through non-lethal means by bona-fide scientists, not bogus scientists like yours.

Recently, a representative for Japan’s fisheries agency said:

“Whales are just as important, and no more special, than any other fish,” says Japan Fisheries Agency spokesperson Hideki Moronuki, maintaining Japan’s long-held position that marine mammals should get no special treatment for being warm-blooded.

Your scientists can’t even tell the difference between a marine mammal and a fish. Do you realize how ignorant Japan looks to the rest of the world? Please be advised that we are telling all consumers to not purchase any Japanese made products until Japan stops killing dolphins and whales and we will be vigilant in this regard. We are determined to end Japan’s brutally cruel and needless slaughter of dolphins and whales and I will do everything within my power to ensure this.

Sincerely,

Hayden Panettiere
Spokesperson
Save the Whales Again! Campaign

Hayden will be speaking to Washington DC this weekend about her heart for the Save the Whales Again! Campaign. And on Thursday, the 18-year-old Heroes hottie will be announcing the Golden Globe nominations in Los Angeles.

    Fantastically said. I love her.

  • reba

I’m sure the Japan economy will crumble to it’s knees now that she’s calling for a boycott…

  • bECKER

Geez can she sound less mean and poorly raised? Japan is a sovereign country and am sure America has beetter people than an 18 year old immature whop replies a letter like sh eis throwing a tantrum. What i shappening to America?

  • daniel

i also like her now … i don’t know if all this is for publicity but at least she’s doing something for the world to know better about this crime

  • dew

I agree, I wasn’t aware this stuff was still going on until the publicity she had from the protest. I can’t believe Japan is still doing this, it is repugnant. There doesn’t seem to be any real reason for it except some sick tradition or something.

  • D

Hayden was NOT professional about her response. She’s acting like a little brat.

  • tm

I Think Shes Cool And All But Someone Should Tell Her Overexposure Isnt A Good Thing

  • Flisbeth

good for her…no matter the cause, it is just nice to see a “young Hollywood hottie” show that, that term doesn’t need equal indifference to the world!

  • the_original_nika

even though I don´t like her, I admire what shes doing.

  • Ha!

Do you really think she wrote this letter herself? GMAB

  • kawaii630

I applaud her for making effort to save the Dolphins and whales. I hope she succeeds on what she’s trying to accomplish. I’m not a fan of her but I admire people who makes an effort for the good of the others.

  • vic

thanks for supporting the whales and fishes but hello!~ america is looking damn ignorant and hypocritical. we kill billions of chickens and cows each year, contributing to a plethora of consequences on peoples healths and the environment. the “blatant disregard for the animals is unfathomable” to other countries too… so seriously hayden. take a look in the mirror before you preach and spit your hate

are you even a vegetarian? lol

  • Cindy

Nice effort but I wonder how much her assistant gets paid to write her letters for her???

    Any takers…?

  • Notbusy

Enough of this media *** She can’t fool me into thinking people are really interested in her. Her PR team is working overtime.

  • angel hair

in a way i admire her activism, but my affinity for her is extremely limited. i agree with becker up there.
and honestly, america doesn’t need any more help to promote the image of presumptuous arrogance overseas.

  • suzy

she so did not write that herself.

  • aka girl

the japanese are not killing the whales for leisure they kill the whales to eat their meat. its the same thing we do in this country with cows and chickens. all animals are important and though i admire her 4 taking a stance on an issue she is being hypocritical seeing as how she is not a vegetarian. it is hayden who looks ignorant and not japan

  • lol

I’m sure she really wrote that letter-how stupid.

And no one wants to hear an 18 y ear old act like a know-it-all, even if that 18 year old has a “ghost writer.”

  • lizaloo

um, hayden honey, America is looking really ignorant to the rest of the world, and having a girl who plays a superhero cheerleader trying to “educate” the Japanese only makes us look more ignorant and stupid.

  • Desertfox

    Good for her!

  • you go girl!!!

some people amaze me, you have a famous teenager who is trying to do something good and people critisize her, but if she decided to go out partying and not care about stuff like this what would you say then???? Leave the girl alone, I have major respect for her!!!

  • nina

I”m sure her heart is in the right place, but could they even at least had TRIED to make it like she wrote it? And the tone is totally inappropriate for someone that young. It’s completely inappropriate-who is she? She’s like some chick on a tv show. Don’t give that kind of attitude.

  • nina

ps-I think people can respect her efforts, but can still explain why her presentation is actually distracting from those efforts.

  • Orange Clockwork

    Yeah, Hayden totally wrote that.

  • B*^&%

Nina- where you there when this letter was wrote?? how the hell do you know she had no part in writing it???

  • nina

Hey, if you want to believe Hayden wrote that letter, go for it. I would say the majority of people here realize she didn’t though.

  • ummm dear hayho PR people

Arrest her Over Exposed gnome azz,she only did the ‘save the dilphin stunt’ 4 publicity. Her PR people at their worse. We the public,at least most of us ,see right through your ‘keep her being noble and good with the public campaign’. Trying to rise her status. Ummm,PR people shhhh.. dont tell anyone but Hayhoe aint so innocent, she struts around half naked most of the time. And we see her doing mudane things to much. I know she didnt write this. Im sure in the next few min, days ,hours, ect,,she’ll pop up again..BTW she cant act.

  • Anon

bECKER, what is happening is that people are making their voices heard on issues that matter to them. Fortunately both the US and Japan support freedom of speech.

“we kill billions of chickens and cows each year, contributing to a plethora of consequences on peoples healths and the environment”
Not everyone is a vegetarian – and the last time I checked, chickens and cows aren’t endangered species. As for consequences to the environment – what are you talking about, the methane gas from cow farts?

Though she likely did not write the letter in its entirety, I’ll bet she was involved in the contents. And she’s signing on behalf of the group.

I doubt she’s doing it for publicity of the kind many here cynically believe – she at the place now where she can use her fame to get a cause noticed. I doubt John or Jane Doe would garner a response from the Japanese Embassy, or bring attention to the problem on a worldwide basis. Good for her!

  • sara

She’s really milking this whale thing for all it’s worth.

  • Chrisler 1

Stop this arrogance, Hayden. Start with protesting against the killing of cows and chickens in the U.S. before you go overseas to preach about not killing cute looking animals.

Japan is a joke not for killing animals for meat but for writing a letter to an ignorant woman who is just trying to be cool with her so called activism.

  • Joyce

i love Hayden. im so glad shes using her fame to help save the dolphins and whales. i could careless if she wrote that letter herself or not. at least shes doing something.

  • Steffi

I am a little bit embarassed for hayden. I mean, she probably didnt write the letter BUT PROOF READ IT AT LEAST! Also, is she threatening the embassy of Japan?!?

  • sarai

I don’t think she’s doing it for publicity. It’s more that the letter is really not for the person addressed to it. It’s a letter for the public to get more publicity for the cause. I don’t know if this is the right kind of publicity though.

  • [~Famous~] – The God.

    you go applehead, fcuk japan!

  • Katie N

This woman is really following our political leaders’ foot steps. Trying to correct other countries when the worst global problems are started right here. Give up your porsche dear, it is not good for the environment !!!

  • Jules

Good for her! I’m sick of hearing about all the other brainless Hollywood type who do nothing. At least she’s out there trying to do some good.

  • Lily Belle

obviously she didn’t write that letter. it’s a joke to make ppl think she’s capable of those words. Also, to call an entire country ignorant? She’s ignorant.

  • Sweetpea

So I guess she doesn’t like sushi huh? Like someone posted previous asking if she’s a vegetarian. I think that is very good question. Next time she puts on a pair of leather boots, she should think about where that came from.

  • Sweetpea

    I meant to say “previously”…sorry

  • Sweetpea

sorry about the typos…I need someone to write for me too.

  • Ha!

LOL Sweetpea. Where in her busy schedule of party-hopping, trips to the gym and buying make-up that makes her look 15 years older than she actually is, did she find the time to write this little book report/letter?

If you want me to respect what you’re trying to do, you have to actually be the one doing it.

  • alexandria

NAME CALLING IS NOT NECCESSARY. if she wants to be taken seriously, why doesn’t she stop pointing her manicured fingers at other countries problems and look at what america is doing to itself.

oops, she cant do that, she lose her fan base.(sarcasm) :P

    priorities people.

  • sara

    Good for her!!

  • jake

For all the ignorant people here who are comparing cows to dolphins, maybe you guys should move to Japan, I am sure you guys will be more happy there than here in North America(U.S and Canada), dolphins are one of the most beautiful creatures in the world, there is no need to slaughter them, Japan clearly has access to other food resources, this is not a pr stunt, it was the Japanese Embassy who contacted Hayden, it was others who put the video of her trip to Japan on Youtube, we all should respect Hayden for what she has been able to accomplish and bring attention to this case, ACTIONS SPEAK LOUDER THEN WORDS, while most of us hide behind computers she is doing something product, if you guys are against her, then I dare you to go out and make a seen, you guys wouldn’t, you know why because, you guys are all take and no action, HATERS

  • Cindy

First of all I do believe in the cause, I just don’t believe she is legit about it. The writing came off as pretentious, and furthermore, how much research was put into this entire issue to begin with. Granted I haven’t read up on the issue myself, but after all this attention its gotten I am interested and I give her credit for that, BUT to tote yourself around like u are a geniune activist when u do it behind others, where others set up photo opps and events for you to go to. Where others have manufactured what you should say rather than u “the activist” doing it urself is what i question.

Does she really care or is there other motivating reasons
    Just questioning??
