Orlando Bloom Serves Nepal for UNICEF

Orlando Bloom Serves Nepal for UNICEF

Orlando Bloom wears flower garlands and a red “tikka” mark on his forehead (local symbols of welcome) while visiting ethnic Tharu children and women at the Sayapatri Community Organization in the village of Dibyanagar in Chitwan district, Nepal.

In his role as an international ambassador for the charity UNICEF (United Nations Children’s Fund), Orlando, 30, toured UNICEF-supported programs in the country’s western region November 30 – December 9, 2007, meeting with UNICEF staff, health facilitators and educators, as well as women’s and other community groups.

Nepal is still recovering from a decade-long civil war that left 13,000 people dead, hampered the delivery of basic services and restricted development of the nation. Malnutrition is the underlying cause of more than 60 per cent of child deaths in Nepal; an estimated 51 per cent of children under the age of five stunted in growth and 48 per cent considerably underweight. However, maternal mortality has significantly reduced from an estimated 539 deaths per 100,000 births in 1996 to 281 maternal deaths per 100,000 births in 2006. Child deaths are also on the decline, putting Nepal on track to reach Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) 4 and 5 (the reduction of under-five child mortality and improved maternal health).

I love these pictures not only because they bring focus to UNICEF and the need in Nepal but also because they show someone who’s lifestyle is quite extraordinary, having a great time with children who aren’t as luckily.

TO PR or not to PR Says:

There was probably a bit of PR thrown in there, but still it is a nice gesture. Although a free trip to a interesting, beautiful place with UNICEF guides is not such a hardship. I do think there may have been a bit of image reformation going on though

    to 34 Says:

no kidding. How hard is it to fly in for free and get your picture taken with a bunch of kids? He said he wanted to go to Nepal and the base camp anyway. Looks like this way he got it paid for and got some free press.
But really, what did he really give? Not much but he got some good press out of it.
Now, go adopt a kid in need Orlando and then you might get some real kudos.

  37. 37
    Love Says:

I totally agree with #32. The pics are to die for but the cause is more than sad and serious. I’ll donate today and I think everyone should invest some minutes to go, visit the unicef website in order to see what each and everyone of us can do.
You know, of course this is PR – but I highly doubt that it is PR in order to reform Orlando’s image. I remember him saying he wanted to work with UNICEF for a long time – way before he actually went. The only PR I see here is a celeb using his fame to point out where help is needed. It’s PR for Nepal and for these children and families that need support.

  38. 38
    to #34 Says:

So he has to act like Brangelina fist before he gets kudos? What kind of person are you? And WHO are you to know that he didn’t donate, too? Jesus Christ, this man does more for Charity than most other celebs and you have nothing but this ****** comment?

Still frustrated about the Miranda story much? poor you lol

  39. 39
    Sarah Says:

    Wow so much angst.
Regardless of whether it was free or not, he showed up and thus drew attention to the problem. It would be nice if the rest of us had be offered an opportunity like that but we are not famous so there would be no point as we could not draw attention to it as a celebrity could.
Why is it that we help raise celebrity by seeing, buying and promoting their movies, music etc. and yet when they try and give back it is seen as them promoting their own self image.

To Angelina, Brad, Orlando etc. thank you for showing up in the very least. If I were famous, I would follow your lead and be honoured!

    touch of the cynic Says:

I just don’t get it. He flew in free, to a place he has already indicated he wanted to go. Got his pictures taken with some kids, and everyone is falling all over themselves about how wonderful he is. The good thing is he did bring attention to a problem, and no doubt he even donated some money. That is great and kudos to him, but it doesn’t make him wonderful, sweet or great dad material. No doubt he was touched by the plight of these people, as anyone with an ounce of humanity would be, and I have no doubt he was kind and caring to those he met, however, what about the people that show up everyday, with little or no reward, those are the ones who deserve all the accolades. And even if it is cynical, in the end, he did get some good press out of it, and of course no doubt his management team made sure the cute and cuddly pictures have been widely released. He is just a man, and this involved no great self sacrifice.

  59. 59
    crazy like me Says:

Being a cynic is fine. Not accepting things being spoonfed to you is also a good trait. However, a few people here seem to be taking this a little far.

You say that Orlando did a good thing by bringing attention to this plight, that you think he probably donated money, he clearly donated time (did they pay for him to go? We don’t know if UNICEF footed the bill or not but since most people around here seem to think he spends his time clubbing and doing drugs I’d think a UNICEF trip in a destitute nation isn’t exactly a vacation destination or a top priority. He talked about going to Base Camp to summit Everest, that is not what he did here, clearly.)

It doesn’t make him wonderful or sweet, etc, that’s true. But neither do the things people like to point to make him the devil incarnate or whatever other epithet gets tossed his way if he goes to a hot spot or what not.

Yes, he gets good press out of it. But exactly how is he supposed to avoid that. The whole reason UNICEF uses celebrity amabassadors is so that people who ordinarily pay no attention to these causes notice them and then donate money. There’s no way to do it otherwise. For Orlando to sneak in and out would serve UNICEF and the cause no purpose.

And fyi, his people didn’t release these pictures. Are you daft? They came from UNICEF. They were in a press release from UNICEF and were distributed throught GETTY Images.

Yes, he’s just a man, and maybe this is no great sacrifice. But it is also a good thing. And since usually his every move is used to point to his debased destructive existance I think you can suck it up and not be cynical for five minutes and merely accept that Orlando did a nice thing, something he certainly didn’t need to do. He doesn’t need free trips. He’s got more money than he could ever need. He could spend his time lying on beaches, partying with his friends and never bother with anything like this. Does it make him a candidate for a nobel prize? No. But it does seem to mean he’s a nice guy that gives his time to others when he doesn’t have to.

  60. 60
    Girl Friday Says:

Oh XXXOOO stick a sock in it. How the hell would you know he shows no love or respect to the people in his life? That’s right, you don’t.

What’s worse, blind love or blind hate? Neither extreme makes you balanced. And being negative doesn’t mean you’re smart. It just means you’re sour.

  61. 61
    Dilletante Says:

Wonder if Brent/Jay (Kerr’s cuckolded Ex) thinks Orlando is such a great and caring, always thinks of others, kind of guy?
    Self-serving altruism indeed.
What timing. Does he hope these pictures will cover-up his birthday party indiscretions/excesses this weekend? Oops, forgot, he’s “clean living”.
Maybe he’ll donate all that big Toyota cheque to UNICEF(a well deserving cause, no arguments there) like Pitt just did. Somehow I don’t think so…..sure we would have heard about it by now.

  62. 62
    crazy like me Says:

Oh for Pete’s sake, Dilletante. These pictures were released by UNICEF. Not by his PR. Why do you hate Orlando so much? Did he turn you down or dump your sister?

You know, a lot of celebrities actually donate money and don’t inform the press. If Orlando donated money and told the press you’d say he only did it to make himself look like a nice guy, get good PR, rehab his image, cover up his evol ways.

You can’t really say Orlando’s altruism is self serving and then use Brad Pitt as an example of complete altruism? LOL. There are no two more self serving celebrities alive other than Brangelina. They take a camera crew everywhere they go. There has been almost no coverage of this trip to Nepal Orlando took. Where has the big PR push been? A few paparazzi pictures a month ago? And now a few pictures released by UNICEF? Wow, you’re so right! F*cking famewhore!

  63. 63
    sADIE Says:

Well said, Crazy Like ME! As for the opinions regarding whether Orlando is a good person or not can only be summed up best by people who actually know and spend time with him.
He has said numerous times that his family and friends are extremely important to him and he is thankful and bless for the opportunities his fame has afforded him. I guess going to Antarctica to assist his cousin, lending his voice to a Peace climb documentary and playing with children in Nepal makes one a fame *****, then I want to be just like him!

Everything orlando does is for publicity and anyone who doesn’t think so doesn’t know anything. I’ve got super duper insider info and I know better. My next door neighbor takes out the trash for an executive assistant who works for Orlando’s hairdresser. That means I automatically know more than anyone else out there.

It’s all PR, he’s really stealing from those little kids. Once the cameras are gone, he takes food from them and all their toys and laughs at them when they cry. He’s the devil. He probably got them to also use Coke because as he’s an actor, he automatically must be snorting. He just hides it better than anyone else out there.

Hey, I’m just sayin, it was win/win for him. Interesting sights to see, good publicity. It’s not like he was cleaning up sick, or doing the really hard work. If it helped some people great, but it does not make the man a candidate for a Nobel Prize. And Brangelina, those people are crazy. They may do good things, but I always wonder what is going to happen to those poor kids, when Angelina reinvents herself, as she seems prone to do every so many years. The kids they have adopted probably need special care, and how can they give it to them, while they are hauling themselves all over the world, making movies and posing for cameras. It is hard enough for regular people to interact closely with their kids, and with their schedules, I am thinking the nannies are the one who are emotionally nurturing their kids.

#67, that’s not true, he actually roasts and eats the children. I have a super secret source that told me that. Oh, and I forgot to say before that I once observed him taking two USA Todays from the machine when he only paid for one.

But seriously, it’s good to see anybody doing good works, celebrity or not. I wonder how many charities the sanctimonius twits doing the bashing are working for and donating to. I guess miserable people need everyone else to be miserable as well so they show up on perfectly innocuous threads like this one and start spewing venom. I guess they didn’t get enough hugs as kids. I’m so glad I don’t know anyone like this in real life.

Seriously, believing that someone really is doing good things, even if it’s just a little bit, is “being a sheep” and “believing whatever we’re spoonfed?” Heaven forbid there should be someone in the world who is *gasp* a good person. I’m all about the snark, but when you start spewing real venom at a person you don’t know that’s messed up. Really messed up.

    Oh for G*ds sake!
It’s not like he did anything that actually got his hands dirty! He got to see some of the sights, and went to look at some poor and destitute people like they were animals at the zoo! Like most celebutard dilletantes. Including Brangelina. Then came the photo ops with the healthiest and best fed children in the area. Can’t have Mr. Movie Star return to his Hollywood life with any communicable diseases now can we? At least none that he doesn’t get the good old fashioned PrettyBoy way. And let’s not get into the security detail probably conveniently cropped from the photos.
I doubt Mr. Blooms presence has inspired any rich individuals or corporations or governments who haven’t already donated to UNICEF(believe me, they’re quite popular) to open the coffers more. You know, the people with the REAL money. This was mostly for Mr. Blooms personal interests and gains. Believe me, the monetary returns on these visits, charades an old friend of mine calls them, is very little, if anything, compared to the costs to cover them.

“Special Ambassador” is an empty but coveted resume title for the social elite/status seekers.

  92. 92
he's doing more than you Says:

#89 and #90 why do you care so much? Is it because you are out there in the dirt feeding starving orphans yourself, volunteering for the Peace Corps and giving as much money as you can to worthy causes?

    Nope, didn’t think so.

  93. 93
    Lainie Says:

Exactly, I still think the point is being missed here, I though the idea of humanitarian work was to help others, not for recognition. Unfortunately without the help of celebs like Orlando these issue would be ignored. Remember the ONE.org commercial, would any of us bought the bracelet or even paid attention if it hadn’t been for those stars, probably not.

Again volunteering and/ or visiting to show you support is far better then sitting on your couch, so lets commend those that do, hands dirty or not.

Sure, like Orlando fans never show up on Kate threads and bash her.

So in other words, you are admitting that’s what you do. Interesting. Of course, being a true Orlando fan means that you must love unconditionally any person attached to Orlando. He would never stoop to bearding for some lesbian cokehead. No way! He would share the coke with her and turn her straight. That way he could parade her around to the paps tweny-four seven and call them up to know where he’s going to be. Even when it is to give her the walking papers at a restaurant two months before it was announced publicly. His hairdresser’s assistant’s told the executive assistant who told my trash picking neighbor that who told me.

I’ve never really understood the appeal.

Doing good things for Unicef is good in general but also good for the image. Not to offend all 50 of his fangirls, but he does love publicity and has been known to do anything to get it. Let’s face facts – he had a bad run of publicity throughout the end of 2007 (wrecking cars, groping women, acting like a drunk, women-hopping, dressing/looking like a homeless person, etc.).

He goes around most of the time wearing ill-fitting and extremely-worn clothes and showing his underwear. A few facts: 1. he’s not an underwear model – he looks too dirty to model underwear; 2. he’s from England, not the Hood – he has no street cred to be able to pull off wearing his pants that low; and, 3. he’s a grown-up – he’s going to be 31 not 13. There comes a point when that’s not cool anymore.

Then, this week alone, two posts on Jared about him that aren’t too bad. His reputation has needed some resusitation for a while now. Hopefully his management will bring out the paddles soon and give his career a good jolt; otherwise the career flatline is certain to continue.

You know, the people with the REAL money. This was mostly for Mr. Blooms personal interests and gains. Believe me, the monetary returns on these visits, charades an old friend of mine calls them, is very little, if anything, compared to the costs to cover them. ”

So, you’re in the know, Ms. International Relief Fund Gal? Let me see if I understand.

UNICEF is popular. They have no real need for the hasbeen Orlando Bloom to go on a photo op because they already have tons of rich people donating and doing this doesn’t change anything appreciable, correct? And this cost a lot of money (paid by UNICEF?) for no benefit to them. Am I following things so far?

Now, we’ve already established Orlando is a loser, a hasbeen, a drug addict, has one of not more communicable diseases, gropes women against their will, serial dates, crashes his car and leaves his friends to die, oh and his worse sin, it seems according to you, dresses badly. (I wonder if he dressed impeccabley all the time if you’d find fault with that. What a flashy sellout! He probably gets those clothes for free and sets up photo ops to show them off! Something like that, right?)

But where were we, oh yes. Orlando sux. And his 15 minutes are over. But somehow he wielded enough power to get UNICEF (who we must remember did this against their will because it has no need for publicity itself) to set up a PR stunt to rehabilitate is tarnished image.

Did I get this right? All this despite the fact that Orlando was originally set to go to Sri Lanka for UNICEF prior to Pirates: At World’s End premiering in May before any of this so-called image rehabilitation was needed. What foresight on Orlando’s part.

Please let me know if I followed the logic. I want to get it right.

One last thing. You all you like to harp on all of Orlando’s failings and the signs of his imminent demise and fall from grace do realize that in the real world the accident got very little attention? That the vast majority of people don’t see these pictures? That most people have no idea about who Orlando was linked to? That the biggest story in recent memory for normal people was that he was dating Jennifer Aniston? Only his fans and ex-fans seem to know the excruciating and skewed details of his life. And as so many of you are so quick to point out, the fangirls love him regardless, will make up excuses regardless, will always defend him and never agree with you lot.

Yep, pretty much. He can do nothing right by some people. If he were to quit acting, give all his money and belongings to the homeless and become a Buddhist monk, they’d have a problem with that, too.

Since someone will inevitably bring up the ex in order to point out the “hypocrisy” of Orlando fans, I’ll do it first. Yes, she didn’t get much love. But I think most people-at least the mature adults-would give her due credit if she did something really great or tried to make the world a better place. She just never did.

“One last thing. He showed that he wasn’t the sparkly, flawless image of perfection he was sold as. I don’t blame him, because it would be exhausting to maintain an image 24/7. He showed that he is just a guy who has achieved extraordinary things in his young life, but that Will Turner and Legolas will always be just fictional characters.

What else did he do? Well, nothing really. From where I’m standing he never did anything wrong, so I can’t help but laugh at the people who think this work was some attempt to rehabilitate his image. I wasn’t aware that it was ever tarnished, were you? From my vantage point, he wasn’t doing anything different than any other single guy with a little money in his pocket.

Anyway, I wish the ex-fans who can’t let go would familiarize themselves with the phrase “the opposite love is not hate, it’s indifference.” I wish they’d get on with that indifference and get lost.

So you’ve backed off your claim that this was Orlando’s set up PR stung? UNICEF actually does need celebrities? They need to get their message out (regardless of the audience) and this is the way to do it? I see. That’s not what you implied in your first comment, was it? And you’ll admit it is a good thing that attention was brought to the issues in Nepal? And that Orlando had a hand in it? I see. Hmm.

No one is denying that he gets good PR out of something like this. But the idea that it was all some attempt to revive his career/image rather than quite possibly something Orlando cares about isn’t fair, is it? Orlando had been trying to work for UNICEF for a long time, and he happens to be free now to do it, what should he have done? Said he couldn’t go because people might think he was being a famewhore? In the scenario above, UNICEF benefits, the people in need benefit, and yes, Orlando benefits. Everyone wins. Is there something wrong with that? It’s the old double edged sword, damned if you do and damed if you don’t.

I am not saying Orlando is a saint. If others think he can do no wrong that’s their business. But to say Orlando can do no right is ridiculous and just as myopic.

For #112: I never thought his image was tarnished, either. There are few bitter hags who harp on his so called escapades of doom and beyond that, no one cares.

“I wish the ex-fans who can’t let go would familiarize themselves with the phrase “the opposite love is not hate, it’s indifference.” I wish they’d get on with that indifference and get lost.”

I wish that too. That fine line between love and hate is awfully blurry, ain’t it?

He’s worked nonstop for the last 8 or 9 years. His last movie was in May and he worked on a play over the summer. It’s hardly tragic that he has no movies lined up. As he said, he is picking carefully. In the meantime he has spent the year going to Antarctica, doing work for UNICEF, narrating a documentary about the Everest Peace Project, and yes, enjoying his life. Quelle horreur!

I think the scariest thing for all these ex-fans is that he’s obviously not slinking off into obscurity anytime soon. He’ll be around annoying you for decades to come.

IMHO whenever a celebrity does something charitable, even if it turns out it was for a bit of PR, as long as someone is helped/benefits then I don’t see the problem. Perhaps by just showing what’s wrong and how bad things are for others will get other people with the means to help to ACTUALLY do just that.

Besides think of all the celebs who do nothing but flounder in their own hype. Say what you will about Orlando but he’s never been that type of person.

So I say good on Orlando and I hope he keeps bringing attention to causes that he’s interested in. Also the pictures are very nice too.

He pays a management team an exorbitant amount of money to care for and present his image. His fan base is what will get him movies, and his image is that of a clean cut, young boyish guy. Groping models, wandering around looking high, and deserting injured friends in a wreck, doesn’t appeal to his fans, and damages his image and thereby his earning capabilities. Thus some trips and photo ops that start to clean up his act. If he was intelligent enough to handle his own career and decisions, he may not have to use others to tell him how to play the game, and perhaps it wouldn’t look so blatant. This is a man who in an interview about his sad little movie Haven, said it would be bigger than Pirates, so it is obvious he isn’t the brightest bulb in the pack. He needs to develop a deep and richer fan base, and expand his image. His management team is just working on damage control at this point. His trip with UNICEF, is going to make little difference, I mean really how many people with big money are going to send more money to them, because Orlando goes there. It will, however, melt all the little fangirl hearts, and give lots of aww look at sweet Orlando moments. Those people he met had no idea who he was, and really could not care less. If he is sincere about his concern for humanity, perhaps less time spent at exclusive clubs, and more volunteering at places where he could actually make a difference would be in order. It is very easy to show up, get pictures taken, look good and sweet for the cameras, it is far different be cooking, handing out blankets, or cleaning up at a shelter. If he did a few real work hours regularly as possible with his schedule, then I might believe he is legit. He is not working, he has plenty of time, why doesn’t he use it to really help others.

Are you soooooo dim that you didn’t realize that he was joking?? Pathetic.

But you’re right about “those people” not knowing who he is. But when you look at the videos, they are obviously drawn to him. They must have liked the person he is, not ‘who’ he is.
He is using his celebrity in the best way possible. Bringing awareness to a cause. And unless you are using every spare moment doing volunteer work at a local shelter, as you expect him to do, you have no right to criticize him. Because, you see, that would make YOU the hypocrit.

He didn’t have to go all the way to Nepal to spend four days in a remote area, where there aren’t any four star hotels or room service to be had. He could have stayed at home, and written a check. But he didn’t. He went there to see the progress for himself.

“He pays a management team an exorbitant amount of money to care for and present his image. His fan base is what will get him movies”

He pays the standard fee that everyone pays. 10-15 percent. And everyone presents an image. Everyone. And everyone’s fanbase gets them movies. Or are you so dense that you think there are actors that don’t need fans at all? And don’t start naming Oscar winners to me. Those people are in a class all by themselves. The vast majority of actors are in the same boat as Orlando Bloom.

“Groping models, wandering around looking high, and deserting injured friends in a wreck, doesn’t appeal to his fans, and damages his image and thereby his earning capabilities. ”

But I thought his career was already over before the wreck? It’s not like he lost jobs since then, correct? People have been going on about the end of his career for a very long time. And as many pointed out his fans gloss over this and put their blinders on right? Only the righteous few, like yourself, see the truth. There are people that have done far worse things than be in an accident that the police decided was entirely not Orlando’s fault. He looks high in pictures? Your opinion. Not fact. He gropes models? I believe that is model, singular. And I saw that video, the lady in question didn’t seem all that bothered and in the end nothing came of the story so I see no way this damaged Orlando’s image other than to the few vultures sitting around waiting to pounce on the slightest weakness to attack even having to blow minor incidents out of proporiton to bulster their weak case.

“Thus some trips and photo ops that start to clean up his act. If he was intelligent enough to handle his own career and decisions, he may not have to use others to tell him how to play the game, and perhaps it wouldn’t look so blatant. A trip for UNICEF that he was supposed to take way back in April but couldn’t for security concerns. Again, the amazing foresight on his part is mind boggling. And you do realize that is the rule in Hollywood to have managers, agents, etc to guide your career? Almost no one does it alone. And if you didn’t see that that was a joke then I am sure you also thought that Orlando’s appearance on Extras conveyed his true feelings for Johnny Depp.

“His trip with UNICEF, is going to make little difference, I mean really how many people with big money are going to send more money to them, because Orlando goes there. It will, however, melt all the little fangirl hearts, and give lots of aww look at sweet Orlando moments”

You act as if Orlando is the only celebrity UNICEF employs to promote its goals. The point of it is to raise awareness, to let people see the work they are doing, and yes to encourage people to donate. If you think UNICEF was at the beck and call of Orlando Bloom you’re not just dumb, you’re crazy.

“Those people he met had no idea who he was, and really could not care less. ”

And yet the children seem enamoured with him. Interesting, isn’t it? No, they don’t know who he is. And he did not go there because meeting a movie star would be a big thrill. He went to raise awareness in the rest of the world about the humanitarian needs in Nepal and the work UNICEF does.

“If he is sincere about his concern for humanity, perhaps less time spent at exclusive clubs, and more volunteering at places where he could actually make a difference would be in order. ”

And how do you know he doesn’t? I am not going to argue about how much time Orlando Bloom spends at exclusive clubs (although, briefly, how many pictures have their been of Orlando over the last few months? And how many of those times was Orlando at an exclusive club? Someone want to count for me? I guarantee the number is very small. But off the top of my head, in all of December he was at a club once. One time. In a whole month. Did he go more? Possibly, but I don’t know and neither do you) but unless you know what he is doing every minute of every day then you have no idea how he spends his time.

” If he did a few real work hours regularly as possible with his schedule, then I might believe he is legit. He is not working, he has plenty of time, why doesn’t he use it to really help others.”

How do you know he doesn’t? Because it’s not being publicized? And if it were? You’d say he was only doing it to make himself look good, raise his earning potential, rehabilitate his image and make his dumb fangirls squee. Am I wrong?

Ok, I am going to step away from the crazy obsessed people now. I will pomise to move very slowly and not make any sudden movements. Stay calm, and return to your nice rosy, fuzzy, cloud cuckoo land. Of course Orlando is wonderful, and marvelous. Everything you say is true and right. The man should be deified.

Is it safe to turn around yet, have they gone back to gazing at his pictures, and hopefully forgot I was here? Someone tell me if they have gathered the pitchforks and torches and if I should be running as fast as I can.

I’m not an huge Orlando fan, but after seeing the video and pictures of him in Nepal, I really think he is genuine about bringing awareness to these people. Sure, people say he could be doing MORE, because he has all that money, blah blah. But the point is, that he’s doing it at all. He certainly doesn’t need to recover his image, because it’s never been lost, and b/c he doesn’t need to promote anything. Heck, he’s been acting for years and years without a break. Finally, he has a break now from his acting work, and is using his free time to do things like this, when he could be partying up a storm in L.A. everynight, or visiting glamourous parties for publicity.
The video is up on youtube, btw, if anyone wants to see it.

And before you feel the need to come back with some sort of attack against me personally I’ll do it for you. I know you pity me because I am a pathetic loser who is blinded by the beauty and perfection of the clearly revolting evil b*stard Orlando Bloom. …….though in a second thought, 60% PR /40% charity. People, normal sensible people, don’t need celeb’s pretty faces adverts to know that miserable state in the 3rd world. Most celebs do charity without pictures. Especially, posed ones like these. Especially when he alone, in one year , consumes more than all of Nepal children could ever dream of consuming in their whole years of poor life…….

Few comments coming from his fans would be contextual. It’s not really about the inner dimension of doing charity itself, it’s not even about *the children* themselves. it’s just about how sexy, hot, cute, he looks near those little children.

The children die, they don’t know what a toyota is, but his fans wet their panties. That’s what it is.

No big deal. WE can ignore them. But you blowhards….you’re the reason its sometimes hard to admit to being a fan. And I know you’ll never admit it, but Orlando’s fans reputations as zealots and nutjobs contribute to his being a bit of a laughingstock with “outsiders”.

A friend of mine, just said that she heard the reason no one has seen Orlando for over ten days is that he has checked into rehab after an intervention by family and friends. They have worked very hard to keep it quiet because they don’t want to damage his image. Maybe it is true, maybe not, but for sure he has disappeared.

  163. 163
    hmmmm Says:

    @interesting,

Yes, very interesting indeed. And I’m not being snippy, so please don’t take it that way, but any clues as to how your friend might know this? I’m just curious, because amongst very recent discussions with my own fandom friends, we’ve been wondering about this very topic. Of course, we also realize part of this maybe in reaction to the Heath Ledger tragedy; an emotional extension of prior concerns I guess.

Yes. Very interesting. And if it is true, I wish him all the best. Its been a long time coming.

Also very interesting is all the Tabloids this week are running with the OB in Nepal pics and ALL of them-ALL- are saying/implying he was there January 10th onward…and he does seem to have disappeared…hmmm…VERY curious timing indeed.

Also, does anyone know if there is a rehab like facility named Bennons or Badges or Bevins or something like that? Just curious for my own curious reasons.

  164. 164
    noticed that too. Says:

    @163
I noticed that too about the tabloids all having the 10th as the Nepal date. Either they all just ran off of each other or they were given that date. All except People who had already ran the story in December so they know when he was there. Could mean something or could mean nothing but I did take note of that as well.

  165. 165
    Oh man Says:

I was just coming over here to comment on all the UNICEF trip tabloid coverage myself when I saw your two posts!

Personally I thought he had just disappeared because he wanted to, (and is perfectly capable of it when he REALLY wants it),but….I think I’ll just stick with my original thoughts for now.

@163- yea,. I agree. All those tabs are saying he was there just a few weeks ago when we all know he was there in December. Interesting. I thiought it might be PR cover for what he really did for his birthday.

Did you read all of that PR to go with the spreads!? Talk about heavy handed reworking of The Image ,man! Orlando isn’t the nothin’-but-another-fading mediocre talent-partying/clubbing/skanking-Hollywood prettyboy player-only beautiful starlets and models need apply-celebrity oh no! He’s a Romantic Humanitarian don’t ya’ know! A true talent and Prince among heartthrobs! Everybody wants him! He’d make a great faithful husband/father don’t you think ladies? Perhaps even with someone like yourselves yeah?(wink, wink) because romance(cough-PR-cough) is all in the details right? He’d make a great romantic lead, why yes he would…blah blah.

Any delusional little fangirl (or dried up old raisin) who still thinks this UNICEF trip didn’t have ANYTHING to do with Blooms own self-promotion and reimaging needs their meds adjusted.

Someone had an interesting question about who owned these photos to be able to sell them to these tabs…if it was UNICEF, well then ok, it went for good… but Bloom has certainly benefited.

  166. 166
    TO #163 Says:

hmmmm, indeed. Wasn’t January 10th also the day there was that odd mention in a Brazil blog about him being mobbed by the paps there.

  167. 167
    Hide and Seek Says:

    @162+163
Well, some say he was spotted in London during that week.-the week of the 10th on.

The blog site looks real but it is the only entry this person has-who apparently arrived there on the 9th and has already had encounters with Orlando Bloom and Huge Grant. How does a college student live on the same street as Hugh Grant-and does Hugh have a dorm on his street? It’s possible I imagine but interesting none the less. It says she is there from January 9th to April 19th. As of right now there are still no more entries. It’s doubtful anyone would go through that much trouble to a make a fake blog, would they? Of course that doesn’t mean he is in rehab. He might just be hiding for the sake of hiding.

  168. 168
    anon Says:

LOL. I’m reading the entries for today and I’m not laughing at anyone here because i happen to agree w/some of the observations in your posts.
I’m just wondering how quickly we’ll see some pap shots in light of some of these conjectures. It seems to be a bit of a game he plays with his public, yeah?

I thought he was in London to help judge some film competition entries; was hoping he might then take a real vacation, not a “Hollywood celebrity” vacation.

Of course, IF the rehab rumours are true, then I too, wish he and his family all the best; hope he’s serious about it. He’d have a second chance at buliding a healthier and stronger foundation for himself.

And IF these rumours are true, then I think we should back off and give them the time and privacy they want and need.

  169. 169
    alornon Says:

if that rumour is true, then time will tell.
i think its just everyone being extra sensitive because of the Heath Ledger tragedy myself.
i can’t see Hollywood Orli giving up any chances at hobknobbing and posing and partying during awards season. He’ll be back soon i’m sure.
isn’t that global green vanity fair, oh excuse me, charity event thingy soon?

  170. 170
    alornon Says:

LOL! forgot to add this reminds me of last year around this time he disappeared too. we found out he was on a boat bound for Antartica! so who knows!?
you know, i always thought there was more to that trip than mere opportunity, you know? he was looking really rough then even more so than recently and always wondered if maybe it was a chance to get him out of LA, dry him out quietly and save face. ironically isn’t Antartica the driest place on the planet? of course he went straight back to Hollywood anyway.
well as i said, i don’t believe this new rumour myself, but suppose time will tell.

  171. 171
    DAMAGES Says:

Where is this runour??? Please show where it says he is in rehab. Whats the betting you cant.

  172. 172
    Diedre Rachid-barlow Says:

    You lot are priceless!

God forbid that the guy has just gone somewhere where there are no paps! This isnt the 1st time he has dissappeared for ages either, he entitled to be “out of the spotlight” occasionally.

Not everything is cloak and dagger. I’m not saying he has never took drugs/drink to excess, but I really have never seen any evidence of him needing rehab.

  173. 173
    Breathless Says:

I have to agree with Diedre. So Orlando has stayed out of sight for two weeks and people imagine some diabolical reason? And again people take the word of an anon? I have read a livejournal entry that someone saw Orlando. A theater student in London said her friends spotted him on Kings Road. She posted this the day after his birthday.

I can’t understand how fans believe eveyrthing they read. Be it in a gossip rag or an anonymous comment. Are you really all this stupid?

  174. 174
    Breathless Says:

and wtf are you talking about alornon? people don’t go to antarctica to dry out. and he did not look “rough” before he left. He actually seemed quite happy and looked great if you saw any of the pictures of him right before he left. seriously, everyone needs to get a grip and stop believing everything they read. and no its not about being a fangirl, its about using your brain. do you really believe orlando could enter rehab without someone blabbing? according to our anon someone has a big enough mouth that it got out to a friend of a fan, but not to anyone in the media? riiiiiiiiiiiight.

  175. 175
    Stupid Says:

    C’mon guys.
You don’t believe everything you see on the net, do you? Especially things posted by an ‘Anon’.
The guy was in Nepal a month ago, and was photographed looking healthy and happy in an LA dog park just a few weeks ago.

Are you so missing the opportunity to call him a “famewhore” because he hasn’t been caught by paps in a while?

    Sheesh!
The guy just can’t win, can he?

Next, people will start blaming Orlando for Heath’s death…..”they were friends, why didn’t Orlando help him? He should have known Heath was in trouble. Some friend you are Orlando!!”.
    Wait for it.
The ‘Karma police’ will show up any time now.

  176. 176
    Katie Says:

I think the day Orlando goes in rehab is the day I start doing drugs.

  177. 177
    oooba dooba Says:

I think it might be a good idea for some fans and non-fans to just take a deeeep breath. Slow down.

Observation: An actor, specifically Orlando Bloom, has not been seen or photographed in a couple weeks.

    Conclusion: He’s in rehab.

What kind of thinking is this? What proof is there besides someone’s word on a message board? Unless I know and trust that source, I’m not automatically taking it as gospel.

There are hundreds of possibilities here, one of which might just be that he’s been overexposed and knows it. What’s interesting is that some people are so accustomed to seeing him every 10 days or so in pap shots that when he drops off the radar for a couple of weeks, some people flip out. Orlando may need to retrain some of his fans – by getting them used to seeing him less often so they don’t worry or jump to conclusions.

I hope he stays out of sight for another couple of weeks. He doesn’t have to put on a show for his fans, the paps, or anyone else. IMO.

  178. 178
    WTF? Says:

Whats wrong with ALL of you?
Both those who accknowledged that the rehab rumour was most likely Internet flap but still proceeded to speculate about it

    AND

Those of you who then come on here indignantly defending him and trying to make a federal case against gossip bloggers who already seem to understand its just Internet rumours…defensive hysteria doesn’t do the guy any favours.

With sicko-fan-ts like all of you, I don’t blame the guy for wanting to disappear.
