Eric Dane's Skin Cancer Scare

Grey’s Anatomy star Eric Dane, aka Dr. Mark “McSteamy” Sloan, opens up this week about his battle against skin cancer.

In the latest issue of OK!, Dane, 35, talks about his cancer scare and how it impacted his relationship with actress wife Rebecca Gayheart. Here are some interview snippets:

On receiving the unexpected news: “I went to my dermatologist. He said it was malignant tissue caused by sun damage.”

On having a severe reaction to a cream given to him for his lip after freezing the cancerous tissue off with liquid nitrogen: “My skin is very sensitive and my lip was traumatized by the procedure I had to go through.”

On not eating well because of his lip’s overreaction: “I didn’t eat very well for a couple of weeks and lost a bunch of weight.”

Pick up the latest issue of OK! for the full interview. And don’t forget to wear your SPF, kiddies!!!!!

Oh for pete’s sake….. the kind of skin cancer Danes had isn’t all that serious… it’s not life threatening malignant melanoma … Dane’s isn’t “battling cancer”, he just had a spot frozen off.

People like Eric, with either squamous cell or basal cell cancers just have them burned, frozen or cut out as outpatients in doctor’s offices. It takes a few minutes and then you can immediately leave. Other than having a boo boo that needs a bit of time to heal and disappear, that’s the end of it.

I ought to know, I live in Florida, the skin cancer capital of the USA. I’ve had two removed, as have many friends and family. It’s not that big a deal.

If Danes lost weight, it’s only because he’s a vain baby who was afraid the boo boo might scar his pretty face if he ate and moved his mouth. He’s milking this for publicity.

didn’t his wife kill a boy in a hit and run a few years back?

  • anonymous

His wife is a child killer.

Sorry but he is not battling cancer, what he has is not bad. He is just using it for publicity. What a sorry bastard.

  • Rae

I’m sure it was a horrible experience for he and his wife, but this seems a little overblown- the cover, the dramatic!headlines.

I’m sympathetic with anybody who has to have squamous/basal cell lesions removed….it’s an inconvenient thing. But it’s not worth a lot of blather about CANCER SCARE.! I’ve had 3 lesions removed in 5 years from my nose, and used a corrosive cream to remove sun-damged skin cells over most of my face. Not pleasant, for sure, but I have been humbled by seeing people at the clinic with really horrible, disfiguring and painful problems.

Now here’s one more reason not to watch GA.
