Ellen DeGeneres and Portia De Rossi's Wedding Bells

Ellen DeGeneres has announced on her talk show that she plans to wed Portia de Rossi now that the California Supreme Court has ruled in favor of gay marriages.

Portia, 35, was in the studio at the time, and Ellen, 50, were applauded by audience members after the announcement was made on Thursday.

Ellen previously had a high-profile relationship with actress Anne Heche. In 1997, Ellen appeared on the cover of Time Magazine entitled, “Yep, I’m Gay”

The taped episode of Ellen making the announcement is said to air today, Friday.

    Get a pre-nup Ellen.

I wonder what Ms DeRossi’s Italian Catholic Family thinks of this news. My guess is they tolerated the relationship thinking it would ultiamtely end. Anne Heche did end and is back on the right team.

But marriage will probably blow them away. So Sad !!

Anne Heche also cheated on her husband with her new boyfriend so she is a real model for morality.

I’m so happy for both of them. I hope everything will turn out fine.

  • So Sad

Stop with the “Congrats.” There is nothing to congratulate them about. This is a sad day when she has the ‘balls” to go on TV and announce such a thing to her audience and like the blind leading the blind, they applaud. That’s what’s wrong with society today…everyone is afraid of offending someone, so we all go along with the status quo and pretend to like it.

Um, I don’t know why I am bothering to respond to the illiterate commenter WTF (#15) but I just wanted to point that a “paedophile” (do you mean “pedophile”, idiot?) preys on kids. A vast majority of pedophiles are heterosexual.

So, by definition, two consenting adults engaged in a committed relationship are not pedophiles. Carry on with your meth lab now, junior!

Congrats to California … and to Ellen and Portia! It’s the last bastion of civil rights hatred by the religious right crumbling to an end. Progress is coming back to the U.S.

Let’s not all make the mistake our country made with the 1940s polls saying Americans disapproved of interracial marriage by a whopping 90+%.

This was a sad day for CA. But don’t worry, when we vote in November, it will be overturned. I don’t see how a judge could over turn what we (61% of CA) already voted for years ago!! Doesn’t make sense….

To “wtf”: get an education. I mean, a good one, an academic one. Get out of your middle age “normal knowledge” garbage hole. Science is the enemy? Oh, ok, keep on sleeping in the dark. Think wise people. Don’t let the haters rot your minds.

  • Lexxvs

By the way CONGRATULATIONS! Life can be just sometimes! Let’s do all we can to make it more just!

  • Janie

    congratulations to Ellen and Portia!!

To Jenny 11:44: Didn’t the kindergarten teachers teach you how democracy Works?
Well, too much for you. The dictate was about constitutional grounds –any law have to comply with the Charta to be valid- so if that 60 gets grumpy, has to change it. Even though all of the States constitutions has to comply with the Federal one. So there you are. You can always move to Nigeria or some places where they think like you. By law.

the question now is: will polygamists claim they have the right to marry 4 people? and will adults claim they have the right to marry minors? isn’t their rights being impinged on too? this opens a great big can of worms…

  • Lexxvs

Tesky: The only worms are in your mind. If you are unable to descern, let other people to think. Those comparisons you made are just scare tactics that only works with illiterates. Or the ones who only can read black books. Barely.

  • not me

Congratulations Ellen and everyone else in the gay community who are now free to marry. This is a beautiful day in America… notwithstanding the ignorant fools who are crying foul.

  • not me

CONSENT.. that is the key word. As long as two (or even more) adults consent to be in a committed relationship they have a constitutional right to be in such a relationship. Minors cannot give consent because they are too young to come to a good decision about their lives… so there you have it. Nothing more to fear Teski , than your own homophobia…

Actually, I am for this resolution. I just know legally, it does open some interesting debates. I get the minor thing. But polygamists now have a ground for legalizing their marriages. What is the valid argument against polygamy? As with all laws, this resolution opens up the avenue for rights for other people like the ruling allowing interracial marriages led to this resolution. Many experts wonder how polygamists will fare in the court system after this ruling. And what is the problem with polygamy anyway?

I have four questions for you people who support all this.

    1. What do you mean by the idea that this is a “right”?
    2. How do you know (that what you just said) is right?
    3. What difference does this make in your life?
    4. What if you are wrong and you die?

  • Jae

#21 They overturned a vote that was conducted 8 years ago, if history has taught us nothing, it’s that society evolves and things change, what was wrong decades ago is not wrong now and vice versa. And as the governer of San Francisco said, it is the job of the state supreme court to protect the minority when the majority is making the wrong decision. Once upon a time the majority believed interracial marriage was wrong…once the majority believed women shouldn’t vote…once the majority believed that slavery was OK! at some point, someone needs to fight against the majority and set things right…

#1: We are human beings just like everyone else, we have the RIGHT to marry
#2: Because marriage is a legally binding institution and not governed by any particular religion or religious belief and everyone has the right to take part in it
#3: I’m gay, I want to be treated like everyone else
#4: That’s my problem, not yours, so let me live my life. If its a mistake, its mine, not yours

now why don’t you answer those questions yourself.

  • nikki

not allowing gay’s the same basic rights as any other U.S citizen is unconstitutional. all people are created equal. not allowing them to marry is the same as not allowing interracial couples to marry. we all know the later is wrong, well so is the former. this is a basic issue of human rights. and i have never been more proud to be a californian!!

I find that every one is entitled to their opinion. I hope that these girls have an excellent future and life. They deserve the same opportunity as every one else, no matter what their life is behind closed doors. A person should treat people according to what they.
