Jake Gyllenhaal has been crowned the Prince of Persia!
The 27-year-old actor and Gemma Arterton, who stars in the new James Bond film, will take the lead roles in the fantasy adventure, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, which starts production in July.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, “Gyllenhaal will play Dastan, a young prince in sixth century Persia who must join forces with Tamina (Arterton), a feisty and exotic princess, to prevent a villainous nobleman from possessing the Sands of Time, a gift from the gods that can reverse time and allow its possessor to rule the world.”
Last month, it was reported that Orlando Bloom would take on the role.

Well so thats that. No Bloom for POP. Interesting that Jake took the role though. It just doesnt seem his style, or that he would even be offered it.
I sort of wished it was Orlando Bloom…lol…I don’t think I’ll see the movie anyways….:)

I rather Orlando play it. He looked the part for it, but not this gut he doesnt even look persion for crying out loud. This movie is ruined. Im not going to see it.

i wanted orlando he’s good in these epic ttpe movies i/e troy, kingdom of heaven and lets not forget lord of the ringd and i dont see jake in those type of roles
At least JJ has linked a story about Bloom to someone other than promoting his ex-girlfriend.
Come on give Jake a break. The movie hasn’t started filming yet. Jake is totally an excellent actor and could be great in the part.
i’m persian and i know , the best suited actor for that role would have been none other than COLIN FARRELL, a persian prince alway is a gorgeous, sexy, charming hunk and COLIN FARRELLwould have been so perfect for this role, that was a wrong, wrong casting , jake is ugly and he doesn’t even look like a regular persian guy , let alone a persian prince , very awful chose , that movie is going to flop just because of the casting , wait and see.

Ben Barnes would have been better just because it doesn’t seem like Jake’s type of movie, but anybody is better than Orlando. Orlando was never even considered, as soon as the rumors started circulation Disney laughed it off.
There goes his career. Who knew that he would sell out?
As a Persian myself I find it weird people think Jake is persian looking.
He isn’t Persian looking from any angle, this movie sounds ridiculous.

Lots of stupid comments. First Persians are WHITE, they are not orientals not blacks, so they have to be white. Second, Jake needs a movie that will be popular and make money. He has done too many “intelligent” movies that have bombed. He would be as good a Persian as anybody in Hollyweird. Being half-Jewish (in fact he is regarded as all Jewish since his mother is Jewish and it is the mother who makes one Jewish or not Jewish) is a bit of a bummer, but I don’t think he pays much attention to his Jewishness. Furthermore Americans don’t give a s**t if the actor “looks” Persian. They just want a good looking guy who can pretend. Jake is perfectly competent to do that.
