Ashanti's Maxim Declaration

Ashanti's Maxim Declaration

Soul siren Ashanti plays it sexy in the June 2008 issue of Maxim. She’s promoting her new album, The Declaration, out June 3. Here’s a snippet of her interview:

Your new album is called The Declaration. Would you like to take this moment to declare anything? Absolutely. I’m declaring that I’m here. The album is a new sound for me. I found out so much about myself working with new people. Everything had kind of been in-house for me, so I was used to having a security blanket—like Linus from Peanuts with his blue blanket. I’m declaring that it’s been four years and a lot of people had questions, but I’m here, baby.

The video of your debut single, “Foolish,” costarred a then-unknown Terrence Howard. How was that? Terrence Howard is a lot older than me. I was young when I made that video, only 21. He was so funny on set. He’s going to get mad at me for saying this, but at the end of the video they put the camera close up on my face as he gives me a hug. And he squeezed my ass! I was like, “Oh, my God, I know this dude did not just squeeze my ass! I’m going to get him.” It was hilarious.

jared, when we spoke about giving black people a little more shine i sure as fcuk wasn’t talking about this schmuck.

7 – competition?!? ashanti’s “competition” for nooo oneee! she’s been irrelevant for the past few years and her last album(s) flopped. don’t insult rihanna and beyonce by mentioning her name with theirs. lol

    WHAt Says:

A then unknown Terrence Howard ? Are they Effing serious!!!! Watch more black programing and give black actors and actresses a chance, instead of giving the roles to black singers and maybe they won’t be UNKNOWN to white folks.

    Widow Says:

Terrence Howard has been on the scene since the 90′s. Maybe unknown to white folk.

    gia Says:

i’m not white or black, but yeah, i knew who terrence howard was before that music video….hello…mr. holland’s opus! maxim’s stupid and shouldn’t have said that. he might not have been a household name but he wasn’t completely unknown.

also, my sister met him on the subway in nyc one time. it was while he was filming or after he filmed king of the world and was playing muhammad ali, so i guess around 2000. she was staring at him trying to figure out where she recognized him from and it came to her. he was really nice to her.

    Yeah Says:

Way does this have to do with the NBA?

Jared can you find anything about “young” black hollywood people that are not Rhianna or Beyonce or ****** looking “has beens”?

I dont want to sound mean I am just a young black female, in college (not a ****, a sports player or on a scholarshipl). I wish to see more mainstream young black girls or multiracial girls that dont appear to be selling their “sex appeal” (like I personally think Rhianna is)

    Cindy Says:

I don’t know her that well but she is beautiful.
Why is it when a person of color comes up in a blog then race becomes the topic.

  22. 22
    wtf Says:

Thank you Cindy, can you not just except beauty and talent for what it is, instead’ve bringing up colour, race or stereotypes. No. I guess not, geez!

  23. 23
University of Ca college girl Says:

race comes into play because the only person that is not showcased in a provocative way (as of late) is Halle berry….and oprah…its not “just jared” thats doing this but the media in general…

she is pretty but there are and have been different ways to show pretty (ie natalie portman, paltrow etc) so why is it when a black person gets a post on here its almost always them looking stereotypical?

ehh well its nothing that will change with just one person. i supose the women themselves should have a little more class or taste… but good taste does not always equal good money…
