Comedian George Carlin Dead at 71

Comedian George Carlin has died from heart failure, reports ET.

His longtime publicist said Carlin, 71, was admitted into the hospital this afternoon after complaining of heart problems. He passed away at 5:55 p.m. Sunday at Saint John’s Hospital in Santa Monica, Calif.

Last year, Carlin celebrated his 50th year in show business and was just tapped last week by the Kennedy Center to receive this year’s Mark Twain Prize, a lifetime achievement award presented to an outstanding comedian.

RIP.

Man, I grew up listening to George Carlin. Sure, he was crass. Sure, he was offensive to some. But that’s part of what made him such a great comedian. He is greatly missed, and my condolences go out to his family and all who knew him. May his work continue to inspire more comedic greatness.

I lost my Dad May 25th 2008 to heart failure. It was one of the most difficult things I’ve ever experienced. My deepest sympathies, thoughts and prayers are with his family.

Just recieved word from a friend who informed me of George’s passing of heart failure this afternoon.

Been a big fan of his comedy routines for decades. Very funny man, yet very private. After watching his last special on HBO, it was apparent time was catching up with this talented man. He appeard a bit out of it in the special and some of the skits did not appear to like regular stuff.

George, you are suffering no longer. May you rest in peace and our condolences to his family and friends.

“… Does this mean we remove you from our address book in, oh, say 6 months…” [A little twist from his special about deciest close ones.]

Enjoy Your Permanent Sleep, George Carlin…

My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and dearest friends. I will always miss the fact that George was one of the first to tell it like it is an not back down. This trait, while cusing some issues made him respected for who he was and not simply being a comedian.
RIP

What a great guy who was funny as hell. Best comedian ever. Like pumpkinskin said, George will finally find out what the hell is up there. Hopefully there is and you’ll be doing shows up there. RIP

Soemone posted prayers? He didn’t believe in God, but I’m sure he was praying on his death bed at St. John’s.
