Sen. Barack Obama takes the cover of People magazine’s latest issue.
Joining the 46-year-old Democratic presidential candidate on the cover is his wife Michelle, 43, and his two daughters, Malia, 10, and Sasha, 7. Here’s a little sneak peek:
– Barack‘s daughters get a $1 per week allowance from Dad for doing their chores, like setting and clearing the dinner table.
– The kids receive no birthday or Christmas presents from Mom and Dad, who spend “hundreds” on birthday slumber parties and, as Barack puts it, “want to teach some limits.”
Also featured on this week’s cover is the debut of former Pregnant Man’s baby girl, Susan Juliette.
“She’s so precious, I just can’t stop staring at her,” Thomas Beatie tells People in his first interview since he and wife Nancy returned home. “Just holding her is the best feeling in the world.”

This interview and magazine cover was done way before Access Hollywood. It just happens to publish now. Obama was going out of the country so they did this before. FYI.

Black people have been one of the most loyal voters for the Democratic party. They make up I think about 25% of the Democratic party. It is a vote that has not strayed so the Democrats depend on Black votes. No one complained when Black people came out in droves for Robert Kennedy , Carter, Clinton etc. The point is Blacks predominantly vote for Democrats. Now when it came to Hillary, Bill Clinton kind of ruined his relationship with Blacks by saying some crazy stuff plus his dismissall of the genocide in Darfur, etc did not help. Remember, up until Iowa, Hillary was getting the black vote – she had it in the palm of her hands and she let her campaign let it go away from her so you can’t say black people only vote for Black people. Besides, the majority of votes for Obama are coming from Whites. he would not be where he is without a HUGE White support. Please get your facts straight. Also, if a biracial person like Halle Berry and Barack say they are black then who are we to argue? Barack is a darker skinned man who has been treated as a black person so he identifies with black just like Halle’s white mother taught her to do. It is clear, even if he said biracial, the number of Americans who are not voting for him because he is non-white see him as black. They have made that point clear. Yes Barack’s mother was white but do you seriously think people see him as white or anything but black? Sadly, these are the hard facts of race in America. Barack has learned more than anyone else what it is like to be truly treated as an other – a black person – in politics. And he has risen above it. Gotta give him props for that. Can we all elevate ourselves to that level? Can we try?
Also Hillary said we need a “woman president”. No one gave her flack for that. Barack has not ONCE said we need a “black president”. Somehow people excuse that kind of gender bias in the name of women’s rights. The hypocrisy there is ironic I think. Barack Obama has tapped into something in the AMerican psyche and this is the reason the issue is debated so much. No one can quite understand it. Meanwhile, he keeps focusing on his ultimate goal. Actually his health care plan DOES NOT cover everybody. Hillary Clinton’s and John Edwards’ plans did, however.
The bottom line is our country is still divided along racial lines. Together we stand….divided we fall.
For the poster who claimed that black people support Obama just because he is black: actually, Barack Obama is just as white as he is black. Does this mean that any white person who supports him is only doing so because his mother was WHITE? Honestly, I’ve heard this reasoning so much and never ceases to ring of ignorance. Anyone who has the least bit of knowledge about the Democratic party knows that a majority of blacks have consistently voted for the Democratic candidate; also, before Bill and Hillary kept making questionable remarks Hillary had the black vote in the bag. More than that…no matter how many black people voted for Obama, he NEVER would’ve had a chance if not for the millions of whites, asians, hispanics, etc. who came in droves for him during the primaries. Please don’t give me this BS about how only black people support him when the guy won primaries in Iowa, Maine, Vermont, Texas (caucus), etc.
And for all those who are griping about fair media coverage: just the other day I was on CNN, and I noticed there was an article about how much (or in this case, how little) Barack Obama sweats after working out at the gym. They actually had quotes from a gym employee elaborating on how little the man sweats! I think we can all agree that coverage like this is ludicrous, but it’s not like he controls the media. If you’ve got a problem with the mainstream media then you should write letters and email your disgust, not take it out on Obama–who although makes tons of headlines, they are often so shallow and frivolous it hardly qualifies as news.
PLUS–if I was a McCain supporter, I wouldn’t be so quick to call for more media coverage. In the last two weeks alone he’s 1) repeatedly referred to Czechoslovakia, which has not been in existence since 1993 2) has falsely attributed one of the biggest breakthroughs in Iraq to the surge (his mistake was even EDITED by CBS news to cover for this incompetence–how is that for fair and unbiased) 3) AND McCain referred to growing violence on the Iran/Pakistan border…except there IS no Iran/Pakistan border!!! This man has proven on more than one occasion that he is completely incompetent and unqualified to be President. I was SO for Hillary at the beginning of the primaries. However, I have come to love Barack Obama and what he stands for, and my husband has always been a champion for his presidential bid. I am very delighted to see him and his beautiful family on the cover. Folks need to take a step back and realize the issues that he stands for and promote- his campaign is about so much more than himself- it is an agenda that will help unify communities, policies, governorship and overall issues in a manner that we have never seen in our lifeime (for those of us 35 years and and under). You can have whatever personal opinion of him that you want, but the fact remains that his platform and idiology is what makes him stand apart, miles ahead, of McCain’s policies. He will be the leader who sil spearhead us into the next century. We are behind times people- we really are. We need to catch up to all the technical and interpersonal advances that so many other counterparts and nations have already had the privilge of doing. He will most definitely get my vote. It was painfully clear that when Obama said 57 contests he was referring to the total number of primaries taking place–the 50 states and Puerto Rico, American Samoa, Guam, Americans Abroad, etc. Perhaps you should have payed more attention to the process instead of assuming that a Harvard Law graduate doesn’t know that there are in fact more than 50 contests during the primary season.

While living in Indonesia with his mother and stepfather Obama stayed in a small house FAR from the upper middle/upper class beginnings John McCain and Hillary Clinton enjoyed. And Barack Obama has stated several times that he payed his way through both Columbia and Harvard Law with student loans that he *just* finished paying off less than 10 years ago. It’s ridiculous that you can even equate Obama’s economic status to McCain’s, whose mistress turned wife is heir to over $100 million dollars.

See why Israel built a wall to separate themselves from the Palestinians? If the Sunnis decide tomorrow that they are disenfranchised and commence the fight, it would be back to square one.. This dichotomy Obama is privy to..
Bush, McCain, Cheney and the nutty right wingers have never understood the dynamics and politics of the Iraqi insurgency.
And it is this dynamic that makes Obama so commanding. This is why Europeans and others like him because he is aware of the real problems the world faces.
Now for all the McCain lovers, when your candidate can tell the
difference between Czech-lo-slovakia and the (Czech Republic and
Slovakia), Sunni & Shi’ite, Putin (then) being the President of Russia
and NOT Germany, Now Russia and NOT Soviet Union,
Pakistan/Afghan border and NOT Iraqi/Afghan border, then you can
call Obama name. For someone running on “experience”, foreign
policy chops, this man (McCain) sure doesn’t know the basics.
I guess having actual knowledge of FACTS is not important for Republicans.
Remember, it was McCain that dared Obama to go to Iraq. And it was the Republicans that kept saying that we don’t know who Obama is.. That is why the Press is following him. And I have to hand it to Obama’s people, they are hands down more intelligent and organizational than the McCain crew.
After all the war crimes and pure destruction of this country by GWB and Company (including McCain), we need someone that is organized.
Obama has what we need to bring this country back on it’s feet.

Americans want to lead, not dominate. Non-Americans accuse us of wanting to dominate them, but if they really think about it, they will realize that we have good intentions. Do not hate us because we are leaders. Work hard and you too can lead in your special area. The more leaders, the merrier. The better you do, the more we all can benefit. If we Americans think this way more, we wouldn’t take such pleasure in putting this great country down. I believe that this is one of the most revealing interviews to date about how backwards thinking obama truly is. he gives his daughters one dollar a week for all of their chores which is the equivalent to 4 dollars a week and 48 dollars a year but he tells us that he wants universal health care and to help the poor. Help your children first! As far as media bias, you own a magazine: who are you going to put on your cover? A handsome, educated, charismatic man with a gorgeous family, who just completed a whirlwind European tour with huge cheering crowds, or an older, somewhat confused politician who can’t keep his geography, loyalties, Iraq timeline and history, or quotes straight?

I believe a lot of the rumors that are being circulated are done out of racism and the fear of having a black president. You are the type of person who could not convince a fly to change his/her mind because your description of Senator Obama is juvenile. This is the very mentality that shows me the limited intelligence of those who do not see the spirituality, kindness and the knowledge that Senator Obama has to offer. And by the way, I am not a robot. I have a great deal of education and experience and have the know-how to make a calm and rational decision based on facts as opposed to the rants of irrationality.

Personally, I feel the same as Michelle Obama about this country that I love. I remember as a child that I had to sit in colored waiting rooms when I went to the doctor. I remember having to go to separate movie theaters and I also remember having to go to separate facilities and separate eating areas. I have always been told that I am a second class person because I am black and I still LOVE this country and I too, have never been REALLY proud of my country until I began to see for myself that people are voting for a qualified black American. This was unheard of for me to even see, dream or think about as a child. Michelle Obama is not angry but realistic and knows how it is to be treated as less than human and as a second class citizen; but she as I, truly loves this country. I understand and can relate to her.

I too believe that Christmas is too commercialized, but I Truly love the Lord. He is my Lord and Savior and I trust in Him for everything. It appears that some Reverends have an agenda which is not reverent. That agenda is to discredit those who do not practice as you practice. I studied under the Jehovah’s Witness faith as a child and they also do not celebrate Christmas as we do. I’m sure that we can all agree that the true meaning of Christmas has been commercialized to the degree that some folks don’t even know why we celebrate Christmas. Many only want a present and some get upset if they are not given anything. As for me, when I child my mom wanted to give gifts but did not have the money to buy them.
My most poignant memory about Christmas was when my mom came to my sister and me and said. “I don’t have the money to buy you anything this year.” She did private home work back in the day and cleaned the homes of white folks. She said that she was saddened because they appeared to have a lot of money and were able to buy for their children and expressed sadness because she did not have the money to buy us gifts. Has the thought ever occurred to you that maybe the Obama’s are looking at this from the perspective of poor people as opposed to the Muslim tradition?
We should not strive on creating doubt about the Obama’s based on negativity. I take Mr. Obama at his word when he says he is not a Muslim. Then what if he was? Not all Muslims are bad people. I can think of a few Christians that I would not want to socialize with based on their hypocrisy.
