Heath Ledger Is On The Bright Side Of Things

The restaurant-bar the late Heath Ledger wanted to open in New York’s Brooklyn is nearly complete.

Heath was very, very into it,” Jud Mongell, Heath’s longtime pal and business partner, tells Life & Style. “He drew the floor plans and thought of the name — BrightSide — because it’s on the bright side of McCarren Park.”

The nautical-themed eatery, which is scheduled to open later this summer, will have personal touches from Heath. For instance, a chessboard will be engraved into one of the tables.

Heath was a big chess player,” notes Jud. “The whole idea was to make it a spot for us. We wanted to make it our own space to hang out.”

Heath also wanted a family style table. “He specifically talked about having a place for him and his family to sit,” adds John McCormick, who designed the bar. “It was great working with Heath. He was the most unassuming guy.”

If I’m forunate enough to be in the New York area I would be LOVE to eat there. How bittersweet it would be though. Still, I would learn to play chess before I go just so I could play at the table before my food arrived. I know how much his father enjoyed this game time with Heath when he came home for a visit. Maybe they will come in for the Grand Opening in his honor. Heath would be proud!!!

It sounds like these business partners are really trying to capitalize on the sympathy of Heath’s fans. I guess it’s a smart move on their part.

  • Anyone

I agree with you, Someone. It’s sad how now they are using Heath’s name to bring in the sympathy exposure. Well, it is working.

I live on the other side of the world, but if i ever stop by Brooklyn, of course I will, even I miss him soo much! He was one of my fave actors! =[

Every time I read something about him, I just think “how sad”. Really, how sad. I hope if he really wanted this place to become a reality that it does so in just the way he wanted and that it’s successful.

    Heath Ledger:Always on my mind!

  • Anonymous person.

You people are pathetic. Sympathy exposure? Heath was excited about this restaurant, he helped MAKE this restaurant become what it was. They were all close friends, hence their partnership. This was something Heath took a lot of pride in doing, something that he was excited about being apart of. It’s only right that HIS FRIENDS feel the need to respect THEIR FRIEND Heath Ledger and dedicate the chess table to Heath, who is sadly unable to be there during the opening of the restaurant that HE HIMSELF created. Heath’s the mastermind behind it all. Everything was planned out before he was alive, they’re just giving him the credit he deserves, and in the process dedicating the chess table to Heath Ledger who they care for and who helped make the place happen. Heath loved chess.

Anyway, looking forward to the opening.

    Heath is lovely.
