Eva Mendes - "Marie Claire" September 2008

Eva Mendes -

After a string of sexy roles in movies for dudes, Eva Mendes is tapping her inner girl’s girl.

In the September issue of Marie Claire (on newsstands August 12th), Eva talks about everything from growing up in a conservation-minded, working class family to which women she admires in Hollywood to her rehab stint.

On women’s strained friendships with each other: “I don’t understand women who don’t like being with the girls. They say they’d rather be with the guys all the time? That it’s just so much easier? I’m calling bulls— on that.”

On Annette Bening being a true role model: “She reminds me of one of those women back in the ‘40s and ‘50s. She’s a broad, and I want to be a broad. I mean, she’s like Ava Gardner or Bette Davis or Katherine Hepburn. Those women were broads. They said it like it was.”

On her life growing up: “I was raised by parents who didn’t have much. We didn’t use whole pieces of paper towel. We shared, or used rags. Mom didn’t even want us flushing all the time.”

On believing the public doesn’t need to know everything about where she lives and how long she’s been with her boyfriend: “Think about what this whole culture of celebrity has done to movie stars. It’s made them extinct. Actors used to carry films because people would have to actually go to the movies to see them. It was the only place. But now there’s none of that mystique, and so there’s less of a reason to buy a ticket.”

GOOD LORD! i cant stand this woman! the pictures of her from GQ are so bloody raunchy, she could give miss cyrus a run for her money! then she poses nude for PETA… like being nekkid has anything to do with being a peta-phile, and then the stupid calvin klein ad. I really can’t stand this chick either… calling bullsh!t for hanging with the guys more than the girls, i happen to be one of those chicks… i just dont get along with girls and would rather hang out with guys…. but the fact that she doesn’t want to go public with her life that’s all good, she could have done the same about her personal hygiene upbringing….

I’m not a fan; she’s too loose, but i agree with her statement regarding women’s relationships. i can’t understand women who say they only like to hang with the guys because girls are catty or whatever. Guys are catty too. Personally, I much prefer have girl friends than guy friends. It’s easier having girl friends.

Eh, if you put out good movies people will go see them. Put out ****** movies, they won’t. Whether they see a person in pics online is irrelevant. Just make good movies and there’s not a problem.

nope, sorry eva, you are wrong. men are much easier to hang with. girls are just backstabbing ******* who say one thing then do something else behind your back. she is such a dumb cow. i think she is just jealous cause she does not know how to hang with the guys.

While her comment on the fading movie star is thought provoking, it is also UN-original. There was just an article on this a couple of weeks ago. And it was all over the news. Not saying that she claimed to have original thoughts, it would just be nice if the one interesting thing she said was her own:)

She’s f****** dense. Doesn’t she know that “broad” is a derogatory term fro women? Why would she call classic Hollywood such a horrible name? “Broad” is slang for a promiscuous woman and guys insult women with it all the time. She’s pretty and dumb, just like those “broad” calling guys like them.

    LuckyL Says:

for* And it’s pretty obvious why girls would prefer male friend’s over girlfriends. She’s so stupid. “Mean Girls,” was popular for a reason. It was a horrible reflection of how so many girls act.

    LuckyL Says:

Not saying all girls are like that, but I don’t know why she could be so confused.

Guys can be a**holes, but not catty. That’s not how it works. Have any guys ever liked you or have you had many guy friends? You must be talking about gay men.

Not only gay men are nice you know, I have guy friends and also friends who are girls. And I like all of them a lot !

    @ the article:
I don’t agree with Eva about the guy-friend thing. Everyone is different you know. I actually can’t chose if I like my guy-friends of girl-friends more. And it’s not easier to be with guys ! Cause girls can be really bitchy sometimes or do things behind your back. I think guys are more open.

She needs to go back into rehab. She needs to be more inform she is not that deep, to call women broads is so insulting…it was to my mother in the 60′s and it is to me in the 21st century…dumb as#.

What the hell is the deal with these people? Anytime I see this girl, I’m like, “What the hell?” She’s not all that. She is too loose. I’m not one of these horny or sleezy agents, directors, managers, or fashion designers from New York or L.A. who would hire her. I wouldn’t hire her, period. There’s undiscovered talent out there in newspapers that’s so much better. After getting this magazine in the mail, I almost terminated my subscription. Let’s see if they put her on the cover again. If Marie Claire magazine puts her on the cover again, I will terminate my subscription. Her attitude and popularity alone disgust me. And for the record, I’M NOT FAT.
