Matthew McConaughey Praises His Own Film

Matthew McConaughey just posted an entry to his MySpace Celebrity page, praising his latest film, Tropic Thunder. In the film, the 38-year-old new dad plays Tugg Speedman’s (Ben Stiller) moronic agent Rick Peck (“Pecker”). Here’s what McConaughey had to say:

“Hey all, I went to [the] Tropic Thunder premiere last Tuesday night. All of the cast was there–really funny movie–there are surprises all over this film. And just when you think you know where the movie’s goin’, another surprise entrance by some character or plot twist surprises you. What a cast of characters! You will see actors you like doing things you’ve never seen them do before. Stiller did a top job directing too. The movie knows what it is and keeps delivering. There’s a lot of protests surrounding the pic, but if you see it, I think you’ll agree that all the “touchy” humor is in context, and in no way mean spirited or irresponsible. It’s just funny. I hope you enjoy the film. I had a blast steppin’ in to work on this project for just a few days. It’s another “brand” of comedy and a comedy team (Stiller and gang) that I wanted to play with, and am happy I did. Never lose your sense of humor, and just keep livin, McConaughey.”

He’s actually really cool in TT, leave him alone…
Its very him to post a message like that, just saying he had fun making the movie, that is indeed very funny, and showing a lot of actors under a new light. He’s not praising his own film, he’s just sharing the fact he enjoyed doing it and he’s proud of it., and also adressing the controversy.. So what…
Give the guy a break, doh.

*is tired of the McConaughey hatred*

Pineapple Express was better.

He was on my plane to Spain a few years ago and all I have to say is he is really humble. He was so nice and he wasn’t even in first class. He shook hands with the fans and took pictures with them. He even made an effort to make sure everyone got an autograph who wanted one. Nothing but good things to say about this man, love him! :)

I saw Tropic Thunder yesterday, it was a great movie, and Matthew was really good in it. I usually like his work, and this was no exception. And Robert Downey Jr should win an oscar for his performance. He was amazing!

Bob, I agree 100%! The movie was hilarious. Thought Matthew did a great turn in this one. And holy hell, was RDJ just amazing. I know they will never give one to him for a comedy role like this but darn does he deserve an Oscar for that performance. Brilliant.

ITA. I saw it on wednesday when it opened. It was hillarious. There is a scence involving Jack Black and a bird that I nearly peed in my pants from laughing so hard. All the actors involved did a great job.

Ummm is anyone “getting” that this controversy is over the use of the word ****** in the film.

Other minority groups get to protest when they feel they have been slandered whether it be gays, blacks, mexicans, jews…but this is a group of people (the mentally disabled) with no voice whatsoever.

None of the screenwriters, producers, directors are mentally challenged people yet all of the above mentioned groups have higher ups in the film industry.

Show a little respect. If it’s offensive to the mentally challenged, they have a right to protest Mr. Matthew…just as any other group. Sadly enough, they don’t have a high profile person protesting on their behalf.

what happened to his looks he use to be so hot

Saw the film…it was freaking awesome. Although I will agree that making fun of the mentally disabled is never cool in my book, the film did not do that; it made fun of the actors that think they can “act” that way; as McCon stated, you have to watch the film to see/understand that the people you think are being made fun of (use of blackface/ use of the word re***d) are not the ones being made fun of at all!

I thought that How to Lose A Guy In 10 Days’ would be **** but I got it cos M.M was great in ‘Reign of Fire’.
It’s a good story and a nice, cheery characterisation of dating and so on. I reckon he’s good with the fine tuning of Acting if that makes any sense. He seems to as that character and was certainly not overshadowed by Oscar nominee Hudson. Liked It A Lot.
