Jessica Alba: Declare Yourself!

Jessica Alba: Declare Yourself!

Jessica Alba is quite literally silenced–with gags and masks stifling her voice as a citizen– in this new campaign entitled “Only You Can Silence yourself.” This is all part of Declare Yourself, the national nonpartisan, nonprofit youth voter initiative aimed at energizing young adults to register and vote in the 2008 election.

Alba said, “If you don’t register and vote and make a difference, and hopefully change the bad things that are happening in our country, you are essentially just binding and muzzling yourself.”

“I really don’t see the point in not registering to vote,” continued the 27-year-old Fantastic actress. “We sign up for MySpace pages and Facebook pages, and download music off the internet. The least people can do is register to vote online, actually making a difference in their world, not just making their lives a little bit cooler. It makes more sense to spend your time making a change in society—and it actually doesn’t take that much time! It takes more time to make a music playlist than it does to register to vote.”

As you may or may not know, Alba is voting for Obama-Biden.

“I really don’t see the point in not registering to vote”… oh that’s so cute and naive! Just as naive as the people who think that pictures of Jessica Alba in bondage will serve any other purpose than being a tool for 15 year old boys to “enjoy”.

People don’t vote, Jessica, because you consistently find that your vote does not matter because their is so much bureaucratic red tape around all issues that the only way for your vote to matter is to move to a city and state were everyone has your same opinion. Then all your votes just drown out the voice of the miniorty in that place, whatever their belief. And in that case you’re not changing the world, you’re just building a smaller world that you’re comfortable living in.

We don’t live in a democracy anymore peps! Any political commentator will tell you that. It’s cute though that celeb’s still do this stuff.

Yeah shut up Jessica.

*rolls eyes*

oh gawd! another celebutard, who needs to leave politics to people who don’t sound dumb or full of pompous while discussing them. she makes crummy movies, lives a lavish lifestyle and is probably quite out of touch with the typical American so she has no place to talk.

and i love how glamorized the shot it.. makeup, lighting, implied nud.ity. so silly. like camping in high heels.

and no, you don’t need to call me out on my typos kids.. i see ‘em :)

Like people with any sense in the U.S. would let a celebrity sway or influence how or who a person should vote for by their weird ads. Why can’t celebrities just stick with acting???

I have typo’s to probably, but IDK care…..lol…if anyone else does they have toooooo much time on their hands.

#9 – WORD.

Sadly, there is so much crap that goes on behind the scenes that this country cannot call its government a democracy. And there are some (very few, though) intellectual ‘celebs’ in the world, but Ms. Alba is far from an intellectual. She can’t even act and she’s incorrect in her statement–you can’t register online. The forms are available online, but you have to print out the forms and mail them once they’re filled out. But registering to vote is more difficult than signing up for something as idiotic as MySpace. Maybe if she informed herself…

To those who do regester and/or vote–okay, do your thing. But don’t judge those who DECIDE not to. There are other ways to be heard.

#15, BG, completely right! Plus there’s the added bonus kids of after you have registered to vote and then become disenchanted with the political process, you know have to report for jury duty the rest of your life! Fun! Plus even if you check the box “I decline to state my party” when asked about your politcal party, you still get a party. It’s called an Independent. And that just means you get mail from both Republican’s and Democrates. And calls from both too. It’s ever so fun!

The reason so many youth do not sign up to vote is because many realize that they are still “babes in the woods” when it comes to undertanding the importance of say, supporting business in the United States because they are the ones that provide our jobs as opposed to saving the Polar Bears…

I am just not a fan of any hollywood person that uses their fame to persuade voters that will vote on their celebrity instead of the facts – whether democrats or republicans

she should stay like that

The non partisan comment on this would have been so much better had her vote not been leaked. I like what the ad has to say though. All in all, I think it is an effective one, and a very eye catching one. It reaches out to a group that many ads really haven’t had the courage to reach out to. I love it!
