Travis Barker's First Post-Crash Interview

Ex-Blink 182 drummer Travis Barker and DJ AM were the only survivors of the September 19 plane crash that killed four. Barker, 32, opened up to Us Weekly for the first time since the crash.

On his fear of flying: “I hate planes. My biggest fear ever is to be involved in a plane crash, so when that happened … well, I’m just thankful to be alive! I’m just grateful to be here at all.”

On how he’s doing” “I am doing the best I can possibly be. I’m so anxious to get out of here. …I’ve just been in surgery after surgery. I have third degree burns basically from my feet up to my waist and both hands. One of my hands was second degree burns and one was third degree burns. I’m trying to have a quick recovery and play the drums again and be able to hold my kids again. [Barker has two children, Landon, 5, and Alabama, 2, with Moakler.] I’m going nuts not being able to see them and spend time with them!”

On eating meat again after over 25 years as a vegetarian “I need protein from food rather than just protein supplements. I changed my diet. I would do anything I possibly could if they said like, ‘There’s a possibility you might heal faster if you do eat meat or just change your eating habits.’ So I did. I don’t regret it at all, I feel so much better.”

On how much longer he’ll be in the hospital? “Oh gosh, I hope not much longer. I sit here and I read books and watch TV. I think if this surgery went well, I’ll be here for at most two weeks.”

I wonder if he’s gotten over his fear of planes.

  • ?

Why should any one care about him now…is it because he was in a crash????? I still don’t but anyway get well soon.

Hope Travis makes a full and speedy recovery.

It’s good to hear he is being sensible and doing everything he can to aid his recovery.
I recently started eating fish and meat again after being a vegetarian, and I feel so much better – good for Travis changing his diet.

Two of my friends who were vegetarians have started eating meat and fish because their doctors told them they HAD to. No supplement is going to give you what a real piece of meat gives. I’m not saying anything against vegetarians now. LOL

I have to have meat one day a week and I have to get B12 shots monthly because I have low iron. Even though I take iron tablets, I still have to have meat — per my doc.

Laura, I gave up being vegan a month ago and now consider myself a “flexaterian. ” I simply got tired of wanting this or that and feeling dilema about eating it. I still eat mostly vegetarian, and really mostly vegan, but if I want sushi, or brie, I’m eating it. I’m not really familier with him, but he seems to be a great dad, and I pray for his swift recovery.

I’m so thankful that he’s getting well and keeping his spirits up. The first thing I thought about when I heard this was his two sons, so I’m sure that’s all he was thinking about also. He seems like a very loving father.

Why did he not mention his two friends that didn’t make it out ? I find that a tad selfish on his part due to the fact that one of them was his close friend. Not Cool.

God created meat for us for a reason because he knows the body he gave us needs nourishment to keep it healthy. Convincing us to hate what God created is the work of the devil. Read the Old Testament in the Bible specifically Leviticus, it’s the book of laws. Leviticus tells you among other things, what foods you should and should not eat. God knows our bodies-he created them.

You want to know what foods to eat, what clothes to wear; what people to associate with; what people to avoid; how you should react in certain situations and how to keep safe in this life?. Stop trying to make up your own rules or listening to people who pretend to know more but only know what you know, READ THE BIBLE all the answers are in there. Don’t take my word for it. Read it yourself.

Man, I hope he gets better soon; that must be awful.
Speaking of supplements and healing, my brother got injured a while back (not the same way, obviously, but he went to the hospital and looked *really* bad right after it happened), and healed a *lot* faster because he started taking extra fish oil — like 15-20 capsules a day. Healed incredibly quickly — went from very badly bruised and swollen all over, to not a mark on him in 2 weeks.
Get better soon Travis; you’ll feel better once you get behind your drums again!

You are a hero. The way you thought about Dj Am and saving him as well as yourself is amazing. I had a birthday party for my two boys that day and came downstairs to check my space and heard the news i was in shock and did not know the details yet and just prayed right away for the both of you. Travis you are a wonderful father and loving man you were saved for a reason and i know you will not take that for granted. Good Luck on recovery and God Bless you and your family.
