Paul Bettany as Charles Darwin -- FIRST PICTURES

A balding Paul Bettany shoots scenes with costar Toby Jones for their upcoming bio drama, Creation, in London on Friday.

In the film, Bettany, 37, plays world-renowned scientist Charles Darwin, who conceives a book that purportedly proves the non-existence of God. Crushed by the loss of his eldest daughter, Darwin writes his master-work, “The Origin of Species”. The movie tells of a global revolution played out the confines of a small English village; a passionate marriage torn apart by the most dangerous idea in history; and a theory saved from extinction by the logic of a child.

Bettany‘s real-life wife Jennifer Connelly will play Emma Darwin, the wife (and cousin) of Charles. Emma was also the mother of their ten children.

Is that his real posture or is he imitating Darwin who became quite stooped as he aged.

Yes the hair is for the role. I think he’s actually wearing a prosthetic skull cap with a wig over it.

Denise, everybody knows there’s no such thing called evolution. It’s kind a shelter for those who do not believe in God. So they can claim their belief or non-belief as scientific.

Greg, every well-educated person as well as the entire scientific community know there is this fact called evolution, buttressed by one of the most well supported scientific theories called Natural Selection. Being an evolution denialist is a kind of shelter for fundamentalist theists. Either due to sheer ignorance, or so they can claim reality doesn’t destroy their cozy little theological myth.
