Bruno Crashs Anti-Gay Rally

Sacha Baron Cohen holds up a sign during a Yes on Prop. 8 rally, on Sunday, Nov. 2, 2008 in Los Angeles.

The 37-year-old British comedian was at the rally shooting his not-yet-titled movie as his alter ego Bruno, gay Austrian fashion reporter. Proposition 8 would overturn the California Supreme Court’s decision earlier this year to legalize same-sex marriage.

When photographers and reporters realized who he was, his film crew shielded him and he was whisked away in a van.

The Bruno movie has a release date of May 15, 2009.

Get your facts right Jared it isn’t an “anti-gay rally.” It’s a rally to keep marriage between a man and a woman, it has nothing to do with liking or disliking gays. Before you post something so controversial you should get your facts right.

I’m sorry, why is this such a big deal? C’mon! let the gay people have their marriege, their wedding! It’s the 21st century!

Here is organized religion using children and homophobia as a socially divisive political tool to get what they want. It has also done wonders to build the power, influence and wealth of specific religious groups supporting prop 8.

What Prop 8 does do is allow one specific group to talk away a constitutional right from an oppressed minority group plain and simple. Using religious interpretation is not justification to support prop 8 as America is NOT a Theocracy. There is nothing in prop 8 that threatens any organized religious group or their definition of “marriage”.

The entire pro prop 8 campaign has been run on fear, hatred and ignorance of individuals that are considered differnt. It has also been a test of just how much influence religious organization have over their flock and the foundations of American government. If they can get prop 8 passed, then what other religious based changes can they put into the foundations of American government. America has a separation of church and state for very sound reasons.

Historically, marriage had NOTHING to do with children. It was pretty much all about property rights and a woman’s survival in pre-industrial western civilization. Marriage was very much a “Business”. Jane Austen’s novels deals with this specific topic quite well. Even if is was fictional.

Catholic priest were sworn to celibacy to protect the wealth of the church. As a marriage can re-distribute church wealth.

In Asia, marriages were arranged when children were young. This was done for the benefit of their families and nothing to do with the happiness of that couple.

Many women died during child birth back in those days and it was common for children to have step parents or be sent away to a relative or other care taker if the parents are unable to care for them.

well, then it is an “anti-gay-marriage”. And i do think it’s because some people can’t still stand gay people and think they’re people who are sick or something.

Daisy – if people want to “protect” marriage than adulterers should still be stoned to death or hung and divorce should be banned. If you don’t like gay marriages then don’t be in one. Simple.

Funny, more than half of the people who want to “protect” marriage are currently working on their 2nd+ marriage. Talk about hypocritical. If you are going to preach it – practice it.

In a nutshell, it is was an “anti-gay” rally. A good majority of the signs were about how their lifestyle is wrong (being gay in general). That is hate. If that is what your “God” teaches you then please, move to Iran – a theocratical country that you and your “people” seem to want so badly. Leave the rest of us be because the last time I checked, my gay friend’s relationship doesn’t affect my marriage to my husband. If it did, it would definetaly mean that #1. I have problems #2. There are more serious underlying issues that I would be obviously trying to avoid owning up to.

I think just because people disagree politically or religiously doesn’t mean that they have to hate each other…on any issue.. I mean it is the 21st century…I wish people would learn how to coexist without all the hatred and arguing about every single issue…but it will never happen…

If it is anti gay marriage then it is anti gay. Keeping a right that gay people want so much exclusively for a group of people. Just ‘tolerating’ gay people won’t do. If they ACCEPT gay life style then there shouldn’t be any problem with them marrying each other.

Good for him. Ellen DeGeneres isn’t the law of the land, you know.
Thank you #2.

so disgusting that people want to create laws that promote bigotry. religious beliefs have no place in law, separation of church and state. it has nothing to do with agreeing with it or disagreeing with it, you just shouldn’t make laws that cater only to your beliefs and lifestyle. america is supposed to be a free and diverse country.

i don’t understand why people make such a big deal of it
homosexuality isn’t just about it’s not JUST sexual orientation the whole thing is’nt JUST about sex it’s much more than that it’s about LOVE and everybody is free to love whom he wants

Thumb up Thumb down 0

i meant isn’t just about sex it’s not just a sexual orientation

Thumb up Thumb down 0

not an anti gay rally. we want marriage to stay between a man and woman..thats all..get over it. yes on 8 yes on 8 yes on 8 yes on 8…it will pass.

Thumb up Thumb down 0

people voting yes on prop 8 or no better than the racist still out there. If you dont agree with gay marriage than dont be in a gay marriage! i mean it is as simple as that. mind your own damn bussiness and stop trying to meddle in other peoples lives you a$$holes.

Thumb up Thumb down 0

yes on 8= discrimination. what kind pf parents would raise their children with thoose beliefs?

Thumb up Thumb down 0

It is a most definitely anti-gay rally. Anytime you want to write discrimination into the constitution of a state it is definitely anti that group. Gay marriage does not threaten the rights of straight people but proposition 8 threatens the rights of gays and lesbians. As a straight married person I believe everyone has the same right to a happy, loving family as I do. Please defeat Prop 8!

Here’s a quick reality check for you, daisy, and everybody else that seems to share you’re viewpoint on whether this was or wasn’t an anti-gay rally: ANY, and I mean ANY, rally or demonstration that is put together for the sole purpose of denying one type of person, whether gay or black or hispanic, the same rights you or I enjoy is DEFINITELY anti-whatever. So this rally, by definition of there purpose, is Anti-Gay. Its called segrigation. Its something real americans have been fighting for a long time. This country is supposed to be about equality and freedom. So stop trying to make my country something that its not supposed to be.

Now if you’ll excuse, I’m taking my soapbox somewhere else.
