Heidi Klum is a Blue Indian Goodess

Heidi Klum goes all out with her costume during her annual Halloween party at 1 Oak in New York City on Friday.

The 35-year-old Project Runway host explained her costume to reporters, saying, “It was actually my assistant’s idea. My husband [Seal] and I were in India last year, so she said, ‘Why don’t you do an Indian goddess? Like a scary Indian goddess?’ And I said ‘OK!’ So then she Googled around and she found Kali and showed me a picture, and I loved it. I loved it because she’s so mean and killed all these different people and [had] fingers hanging off [her] and little shrunken heads everywhere.”

Heidi also talked about her kids’ costumes: “Leni is a bumblebee and the boys [Henry and Johan] are Spiderman. But they’re always Spiderman, so I don’t think for them there’s a difference between Halloween or any other day. They always dress up.”

  • Anne

Wow, that’s the best halloween costume I’ve ever seen!

  • Soyoung Kim

    whoaaa crazy costume. It’s impressive.
She scares me a little bit though. Haha I like the normal Heidi a lot better.

  • http://www.celebrityfanchat.com CelebrityFanChat Rap

    nice costume

  • Regina

    She’s the queen of Halloween!

  • amethyst

i think this is not good!!
why making fun of indian goddess???

  • katie n

This is a great costume. But Heidi has not done her research before talking to the press. Kali killed unjust, oppressive kings not just anybody. She in fact is considered one of the first feminist goddess ideas as she fought over injustices done to women.

  • ashleytfan

thats the COOLEST costume i have ever seen !

  • Portia

Finally a girl who doesnt wear slutty costumes for Halloween. Props to Heidi!

  • The saner sex

Holy crap. If I wore that I’d go to the club with the biggest grand prize for best costume because I would be guaranteed to win it.

  • catik

    very cool

  • IhateKLum

Klum is a retard. Why not roam naked on the streets with her ugly hubby instead of making fun of a religion?

  • laura

Is that Christian Siriano (from Project Runway) dressed as Cruella De Ville?

  • LolaSvelt

It’s good to see someone who actually gets the whole concept of Halloween, other than dressing like a slút like those Hills girls.

  • Mandy

great costume but how the heck did she even get through the door without breaking off those arms?

  • it’s a recession

maybe its just me but not 1 good halloween costume
    everybody looked stupid

  • indophile

Truly tacky, not the costume, but the insensitivity. Kali is a woman’s facet, the extreme strength for women when they need to fight the injustices of the world. Women Indian goddesses are Shakti or power, to be revered. An insult to Kali is a dumb, airheaded, anything-for-publicity-without-research insult to womanhood. Tacky, not the costume, but the ignorance.

  • Monica

i think this is very wrong and disrespectful to dress up like the Hindu goddess Kali. What does she think of herself? She is no goddess and can’t dress up like one and make fun of the goddess. If someone dresses up like Jesus i would be offended and so would she. I think she is totally wrong for doing this. She should respect the Hindu culture instead of dressing up like her. Ignorant. I hate her. Shame on her.

  • Angela

she’s an idiot! she obviously didn’t do any research or had any interest in this Hindu goddess by her incorrect description of this god! insulting n a complete mockery! …heres an idea if ur actually going to bother going to india, at least take an actual interest in their culture n religion!

  • Woman

JEEZ woman!!! u dont DIS Kali!! its like insulting jesus, allah, buddha, etc..wow!! shame on you!!

  • milli

I am a Hindu and I am not offended by her costume at all. I think its by far the best ‘Kali’ costume I have ever seen, the details are amazing, except the high heels. However, Kali is never ‘mean’ and didnot kill a ‘bunch of people’ for nothing. Everything the Goddess wears, every pose she makes has very significant meaning. Heidi ‘Clue less’ Klum.

  • BRADLEY

    hahahahahahahahaha i love it!

she always goes way out for her costumes

  • ria

Be a little sensitive to other cultures & religions. I don’t think this is cool at all !

  • katie n

I agree the costume was wonderful. I am not from India or a Hindu. But I can understand how painful it would be for them. Not because she dressed like one of their goddesses but the way Heidi describes kali “killed a bunch of people…” In what century Heidi thinks she is living in. She says she went to India but she had not bothered to learn about its rich culture. Shame on her…

  • Janet

This is incredibly rude, and disrespectful. wow…

  • final

    Heidi wears Hindu’s Goddes Heidi
    You’re in trouble Heidu!!!!!!

Actually Hindus are mighty tolerant people. Ignoramuses mock the most accomodating religion. Hinduism makes room for all religions because of its polytheistic forms leading to one power. That is why Jesus and Allah have their Indian followers. Dr.Thurman knew a few things about this great culture. He took one of the facets of the Shakti form of woman goddess of which Kali is the extreme, to name his daughter UMA. (nee Thurman)

I am an Indian and Hindu. I am not at all dissed at the costume in itself, however I am dissed at the fact that she wore it like a party costume Kissing, people, holding wine, giving the “kill em all” pose.
However I am not mad enough to blow up all the airheads in the west either. Airheads exist all over the world, you become one of them when you take their actions seriously.
I wonder what people would think if someone dressed up like Hitler holding a huge Ashtrray withhebrew inscriptions OR hooded men in a chariot pulled by Black men.. ;) Just do your research before you decide to go “Yaaa I am evil”

IhateKLum @ 11/03/2008 at 2:48 pm Klum is a ******. Why not roam naked on the streets with her ugly hubby instead of making fun of a religion?

    ————

How is she making fun of religion?? “how disrespectful”, “how rude”, “insulting”, “be a litte sensitive” etc.. its just a halloween costume! And what do you look like? Who do u think u are calling other people ugly, are you even goodlooking??

  • mickey

    @huh
its not the costume , but her remark that is insensitive.
How can you open your mouth without thinking. Kali is the strongest form of a women , who fights injustice. I really admired Klum, thought she was sane, but sadly her remarks proves otherwise. Oh, she is still beautiful and is wearing a great costume, but now I know she has something missing between her ears.

  • j

i think it is incredibly rude to do this…and very disrespectful. she is taking the mick out of a hindu god and using it as a costume. how ridiculus. get a life klum

  • Kalis daughter.

Its pretty tasteless poking fun at the expense of another religion.
The next Halloween try becoming Aisha the child wife of the Prophet with her hymen bloodied and lets see you get away with it or lets dress up as the Brigham Young’s 16 wives or 57 children. Even better try wrapping a live rattle snake on your neck like the Pentecostal churches of the south. Hey or how about a rib sticking out from your husbands chest ?
To pick a 5000 year old religion with one of the richest philosophical texts that has no record of proselytizing, no record of aggression and has been the source of birth for three other religions (Buddhism, Jainism and Sikhism) for your Halloween night party is truly mature and clever thinking. As you can see in your own comments page, it is Hinduism’s greatness that we let denegration of our Gods let past us. But I would really like you to follow my suggestions for the next Halloween.

  • palvasha

    thats some scary shitt

  • naee.

i find this disrespectful and offensive.

  • wow.

    she is obviously uneducated.
    her vocabulary is disgusting.

    this is really disrespectful.

  • now i hate you

im sure u have brain but oh maybe its functioning any longer….such a awful act and now i really hv no respect and will nvr watch u again and absolutely will switch to next boring channel than watching a person like you…mind u im not hindu nor im from india but its totally rubbish that u know its a goddess and u still did it…… the gos will punish u Heidi

  • tesna

@kali’s daughter…hinduism is way older than 5000 years…its one of “the” oldest religions in the world..each “yuga” is 5000 years n we’re in the fourth and final “yuga” so do the math..

  • tesna

yuga in Hindu philosophy is the name of an ‘epoch’ or ‘era’ within a cycle of four ages. These are the Satya Yuga (or Krita Yuga), the Treta Yuga, the Dvapara Yuga and finally the Kali Yuga. According to Hindu cosmology, the world is created, destroyed and recreated every 311 trillion and 40 Billion years.[1] The cycles are said to repeat like the seasons, waxing and waning within a greater time-cycle of the creation and destruction of the universe. Like Summer, Spring, Winter and Autumn, each yuga involves stages or gradual changes which the earth and the consciousness of mankind goes through as a whole. A complete yuga cycle from a high Golden Age of enlightenment to a Dark Age and back again is said to be caused by the solar system’s motion around a central sun

  • Shankar

no offence for me but heidi should do her reseach b4 opening her mouth. it is the great insult for herself coz wearing those custume without any knowledge of the kali’s reputation.
