Johnny Depp as The Mad Hatter -- First Picture?

Johnny Depp as The Mad Hatter -- First Picture?

Here is your first look at Johnny Depp as Alice in Wonderland‘s The Mad Hatter.

Or is it? A Photoshop creation, perhaps?

In any event, the 3D flick will use a mix of live action and performance capture CGI. It will be directed by Tim Burton, who first teamed up with Depp for the 1990’s film Edward Scissorhands.

Depp will appear alongside Anne Hathaway as The White Queen and Burton‘s wife, Helena Bonham Carter as The Red Queen. Also featured: Michael Sheen, Mia Wasikowska, Matt Lucas, Crispin Glover, Stephen Fry and Alan Rickman.

oooh……..scary!!!!!!!!! LV NICKY B :)

can’t wait for this movie!

apparently deborah never actually READ the book alice in wonderland. it’s not all fairy tales like the disney movie is. the original is a “grown up” tale.

I’m amazed that everybody thinks that he only plays ‘looney and creepy’ characters. Not true at all. Everybody looks at all this mainstream stuff. Watch some of his old movies, nothing like that at all. And Sweeney Todd was way different, he sang? Just because Tim Burton has a style doesn’t mean that everything is the same, don’t look at the texture of the movie; watch the movie and pay attention to the acting and the way characters are portrayed.

Also, everybody saying he hides behind the make-up. The only movies he’s made with make up are usually his Burton films. There are movies like, Nick of Time, The Libertine (which he does wear a lot of make-up but not in the same way as he would as Todd or the Hatter), Secret Window and many others. Do your research.

I hope this is fake, but it seems to be real… I don’t think it’s photoshop.

(But remember, they can show a false picture to the media, as they did with pirates of the caribbean, where jack sparrow is suited in a chinese costume.)

I hope this is not the real mad hatter, looks too creepy, it’s gonna be something like sweeney todd, and this has nothing to do with Alice in wonderland, should be more of a fun movie, not a dark like sweeney todd…

but, as far as I’m concerned, tim burton loves making movies like these movies. So, I think there’s no way, the movie will have a darker look anyways.

(why is mad hatter holding a bunny? I read the book 2 weeks ago, and besides the white rabbit, there’s no other, just the march hare. ?!?!?! would it be the march hare?)

oooooooooobber excited 4 this movie. Just from this picture of this one character you can tell that it will be Tim Burton’s creepy, mysterious, and dark work at its very best.

um yeah its not creepy…
i’m just gonna click the X on the top of the screen and hide under my bed.. o_O

I dont care what anyone says.. this movie is going to be amazing.. cast and all!! I dont see why you would go on a site to critisize…

What’s Eating Gilbert Grape was a great movie and Johny Depp wasn’t strange in it.

weird..

haha have you ever noticed that every character Johnny Depp gets is like..really odd? I just think that is funny.

I personally think this look is great. It is just as I’d expect and would hope to see in a Burton film.

As for ruining a Disney classic; not happening. Please recognize that Disney did not create Alice in Wonderland, and their adaptation of the story is far from accurate. So really, Alice in Wonderland is free game for anyone to create a film about – and it actually being a good film, for that matter.

the film isnt called mad hatter! its alice in wonderland.

Whatever u guys say.. Johnny Depp is one of the best actors of this times. he is very versatile and can play whatever role he portrays. What I like about him is that he never plays role exactly the same and he chooses his characters. He doesn’t want to be in th mainstream..

You guys who says that his characters are all the same, watch all his movies especially the movies from the past, when he was not very much known by a lot of people.

try watching:
What’s Eating Gilbert Grape,
Nick Of Time,
Libertine,
Ed Wood,
Benny and Joon,
Once Upon a Time in Mexico,
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas and a lot more…

He’s like Ewan McGregor at some point. they choose their roles intelligently.. hahaha!

I LOVE JOHNNY DEPP!

I think that people need to stop complaining about Tim Burton turning Kid stuff into adult stuff. First of all, at least 70% of his stuff originally was adult stuff! Sleepy Hollow, E. Scissorhands, EVEN Alice in Wonderland!!! I mean come on! Carrol wrote that for an adult woman! And Sleepy Hollow! Don’t even get me started! Originally the story was full of horrible things that parents would never in their right mind let their children read!!! It was edited and abridged many times before it became anything resembling children’s story!!! Also, Tim Burton’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is WAY closer to the book(notice the original book’s title compared to the movie made in the 70s or whatever)! Try knowing what you’re talking about before you say anything!

Alice in Wonderland is not a Disney movie walt disney decided to make a movie out of a BOOK! plus the disney version is very different than the book, just cause Tim Burton wants to make the movie doesn’t mean that is a “remake” he is just making a movie out of a book, and i’m pretty sure that is going to be a great movie, he’s got a great cast as usual.

Even though I’m a boy…I think I’m gonna watch alice in wonderland
Note:Why does Johhny Depp still look like Sweeney Todd

It seems to me that a lot of people commenting here clearly haven’t read the original Alice in Wonderland and only know the child-friendly Disney version.

The book is very dark and of all the attempts so far, I feel that Tim Burton’s maybe the closest to the real feel of the book yet. If this is the final image of the mad hatter then I’m happy. As name suggests, the hatter is mad and surely his image should represent this?

wow! creepy but he is exy without all that stuff he looks sexy in sweeney todd… HELENA BONHAM CARTER AND ALAN RICKMAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!????????????? reuniting sweeney todd’s characters are we not? :) JOHNNY DEPP RULES!!!!!!!!

omfg
he is still drop dead sexi

I don’t think Burton’s Alice in Wonderland will do well box office wise because it is likely to be released round about the same time as thefollowing movies:

Iron Man 2

The A-Team

Thor

Toy Story 3

Shrek Goes Forth

I can’t wait for this! It is going to be great. Johnny Depp, Matt Lucas, Helena Bonham Carter, great cast! I loved Matt Lucas in Little Britain.

definitely the creation of photoshop

This movie is going to be awesome. Tim Burton does amazing work, and this is such an amazing cast. Its going to be very dark and gloomy, which is going to make it even better. Johnny is one of my fav’s and Im sure he will do an awesome job as the Mad Hatter. Anyone who says otherwise, go watch some of the movies he’s in and your mind and oppinion will change.Crispin Glover as the Knave of Hearts and Helena Bonham Carter as the Red Queen is going to be wonderfully creepy and very dramatic. Cant wait till this movie comes out!!! First one in line.

Now iv read a lot of these comments and most of there are sayin johnny should be in more normal films, i strongly disagree iv heard johnny himself in interveiws saying he loves to express his creative and weird side… But basicly you can see a normal film anywhere and everywhere. And to find a creative director like tim and an actor that can pull off such wacky characters and still be loved, now thats what i call a movie. I love depp and burton in every way possable, i respect them alot…
