Nicole Kidman: Home Sydney Home

Nicole Kidman arrives in Sydney on Monday with her husband, country superstar Keith Urban, after a flight from Nashville, Tenn.

The couple will be attending Tuesday’s Sydney premiere for her new Baz Luhrmann-directed film, Australia.

Unfortunately for Keith at this year’s Country Music Awards (CMAs), he lost out to Kenny Chesney for Entertainer of the Year and Brad Paisley for Male Vocalist of the Year. Maybe next year!

    Australia First Review,

Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman shine in Australia

REVIEW: HE SET himself an enormous challenge, but Baz Luhrmann has pulled off an incredible film in Australia.

Shoehorning two complete films into one package, Australia sees Nicole Kidman as Lady Sarah Ashley, a priviilged aristocrat drawn to the outback to sell her late husband’s failing cattle station.

But she’s soon drawn to the landscape, a little Aboriginal boy called Nullah, played startlingly by newcomer Brandon Walters, and a taciturn drover (Hugh Jackman) who reluctantly helps her save her property.

The film begins with surprising slapstick and trademark Luhrmann over-the-top humour – a scene featuring Jackman giving himself a bath with a bucket is pure beefcake and proud of it – but settles into a compelling and moving tale which traverses war, race relations, class and the Stolen Generation.

It’s a movie with a message, but Luhrmann provides the audience with no shortage of thrills, from a cliff hanger cattle stampede to the bombing of Darwin.

Kidman and Jackman are perfect together, Jackman’s broad speaking drover a perfect foil to Kidman’s snooty English rose.

Australia is full of familiar faces, from David Gulpilil to David Wenham, Bryan Brown to Ben Mendelsohn, but not so familiar places, to many Australians anyway.

Australia features some of the most beautiful photography ever seen in an Australian film, from the Bungle Bungles in the Kimberley to the Northern Territory in the midst of the wet season.

A love letter to the Australian landscape and our history, Australia has international blockbuster written all over it.

  • the real jc.

I’ve heard Australia (the film) is the Gone With the Wind for a new generation. That’s a mighty BIG call. HUGE call. But I guess if it’s to be done, who better to do it than Baz and then add those two leads……..I just can’t see how you could go wrong.

  • GOOD VICTORIA

Why TWO big long interview’s ?????..and they are the same !!
Nicole is so beautiful and talented that I would watch her in ANY movie….It’s to bad Keith lost out in both of the important CMA’s category, but Kenny and Brad are just as good…Tough call !!!
Where is Sunday Rose ????….left behind with a nanny ?

  • ali

I hope the baby was just being carried by someone else not pictured. How could anyone leave a baby that age for that long?!

  • ali

    finally a good movie!!!!

    thanks God for Baz Lurhmann!!!

  • ali

think this movie will be spectacular. There are not to many true auteur directors left in hollywood, and Baz is one of them. I think that this film will probably be his best, because it is a movie about his home. The passion is there for all of the players. People will be very surprised by how well this does( awards/ box office, etc). Correct me if I am wrong but I believe the budget is 140 million and he is not a wasteful director from what I know

  • ali

Baz is a genius, any thing from him will be just perfect

  • ali

I have been waiting for this film for so long…I love Hugh Jackman…he is the perfect fit for the role and Nicole Kidman and Baz Luhrmann are a great match as director/actress

  • ali

this will be visually award winning but as of now i cant say much more about it

  • ali

a fantastic director and two of the World’s leading stars,-I think and hope this will at least see several Oscar nominations

welcome home nickeith ,cant wait for australia

  • ali

I can’t wait to see this film. I love Baz Luhrmann, he has been away too long!

  • ali

The first review is wonderful,Suddenly, I’m interested in Queen Nikki’s performance all over again

  • ali

Oh my! I’m so excited now

  • anon

Most of the posts above seem to be written by one person. The movie will probably be good, but I don’t look forward to Nicole’s bizarre, childish gushing about Baz, like she did after Moulin Rouge. I always thought she was having an affair with him.

  • sara

The doctors advised Nicole that the whirlwind trip would be too much for the baby. She’s leaving straight after the premiere party.

As for not having a nanny, it’s possible she’s left the baby with family as I believe her sister Antonia was spotted with her a few days ago.

  • ali

BAZ LUHRMANN’s Australia is an incredible film, according to the first reviews from the country in which it was set.

  • CAN´T WAIT EITHER!!

Where is Sunday Rose ????….left behind with a nanny ?

Kidman and her husband, country singer Keith Urban, arrived in Sydney last night on their private jet just after 10pm.

The couple were without their four-month-old daughter Sunday Rose after doctors advised Kidman that flying in and out of Australia in 24 hours would be too much for the baby.

I don’t know why Uban was nomenated for a awared at all he can’t carry a tune anymore Tobey Keith should of got it

  • ali

I am so excited to see this film. I think Nicole Kidman is so gracious and Hugh Jackman is…. well words do not discribe……. They are both amazing actors and to be set in a historical film it just doesn’t get any better than this for a movie.

“I hope the baby was just being carried by someone else not pictured. How could anyone leave a baby that age for that long?!”
    ______________________________________________

Have you forgotten – we are talking Nicole Kidman here. Remember her other two children that she doesn’t see for months? Sunday isn’t there.

Oh, Kidman looks so classy and glamorous in these pictures!
