Nicole Kidman: Home Sydney Home

Nicole Kidman arrives in Sydney on Monday with her husband, country superstar Keith Urban, after a flight from Nashville, Tenn.

The couple will be attending Tuesday’s Sydney premiere for her new Baz Luhrmann-directed film, Australia.

Unfortunately for Keith at this year’s Country Music Awards (CMAs), he lost out to Kenny Chesney for Entertainer of the Year and Brad Paisley for Male Vocalist of the Year. Maybe next year!

    Australia First Review,

Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman shine in Australia

REVIEW: HE SET himself an enormous challenge, but Baz Luhrmann has pulled off an incredible film in Australia.

Shoehorning two complete films into one package, Australia sees Nicole Kidman as Lady Sarah Ashley, a priviilged aristocrat drawn to the outback to sell her late husband’s failing cattle station.

But she’s soon drawn to the landscape, a little Aboriginal boy called Nullah, played startlingly by newcomer Brandon Walters, and a taciturn drover (Hugh Jackman) who reluctantly helps her save her property.

The film begins with surprising slapstick and trademark Luhrmann over-the-top humour – a scene featuring Jackman giving himself a bath with a bucket is pure beefcake and proud of it – but settles into a compelling and moving tale which traverses war, race relations, class and the Stolen Generation.

It’s a movie with a message, but Luhrmann provides the audience with no shortage of thrills, from a cliff hanger cattle stampede to the bombing of Darwin.

Kidman and Jackman are perfect together, Jackman’s broad speaking drover a perfect foil to Kidman’s snooty English rose.

Australia is full of familiar faces, from David Gulpilil to David Wenham, Bryan Brown to Ben Mendelsohn, but not so familiar places, to many Australians anyway.

Australia features some of the most beautiful photography ever seen in an Australian film, from the Bungle Bungles in the Kimberley to the Northern Territory in the midst of the wet season.

A love letter to the Australian landscape and our history, Australia has international blockbuster written all over it.

think this movie will be spectacular. There are not to many true auteur directors left in hollywood, and Baz is one of them. I think that this film will probably be his best, because it is a movie about his home. The passion is there for all of the players. People will be very surprised by how well this does( awards/ box office, etc). Correct me if I am wrong but I believe the budget is 140 million and he is not a wasteful director from what I know

Kidman and her husband, country singer Keith Urban, arrived in Sydney last night on their private jet just after 10pm.

The couple were without their four-month-old daughter Sunday Rose after doctors advised Kidman that flying in and out of Australia in 24 hours would be too much for the baby.

    __________________________

Are you for real? Antonia has not been seen with Kidman the last few days, and there is no family in Nashville to take care of Sunday! The night-time and day-time nannies will take care of her like they do everyday – nothing different for Sunday and the nannies to not have Kidman by their sides.

    hostas Says:

Didn’t Kidman recently say that she could never be away from Sunday for more than a day? Let’s see, it takes around 40 hours to fly there and back, and then add the 24 hours in Oz – by my calculations, that’s more than 24 hours away from Sunday.

  55. 55
    Ignarance is bliss Says:

It’s a 20 hour flight each way with high cabin pressure. One way is fine for an infant under 6 mths of age. But a return to normal altitude and then back on a jet for another 20 hour flight is insane and completely doesn’t make sense.

Nicole will be giving interviews and attending a premier or tow. There would be no time for the baby.

No one with knowledge of international air travel, temperature and/or time zone changeswould put a baby through such an ordeal only to leave the baby with a sitter at a hotel for one day.

BTW, It’s freezing in Nashville now and the middle of Summer in Sydney.

Ever fly to another cliate and back without catching the worst flu ever, I haven’t.

I left my 5 mth old baby at home for a weekend when I had a convention in NYC.

It simply made no sense to interrupt the sleep schedule and drag a baby around the country for two days.

There Is absolutely no sensible advantage to having a baby travel around the globe if the baby can stay safe in it’s crib at home.

I can’t believe they left a small baby at home, even if its for a short time. She sure does leave that baby a lot. I’ve read where the test audiences for this film said it was disastrous, so I think I’ll wait to see before I spend my hard-earned cash. It amazes me how all these celebrities talk about “carbon footprints” and not wasting fuel and these two go from the US to OZ for just a 24 hr stay, talk about wasteful.

  65. 65
    JODI Says:

Cindy, do you want some cheese with that “whine”!! Good grief. I’ve read 2 reviews that were really great! BTW, I hate that Keith didn’t win, but he’s gotten it before and he will do it again. The Nashville suites just feel sorry for Kenny because he has no life except out on the road playing to all the drunk college kids.

  66. 66
    hostas Says:

Back away from Kenny! When has Keith Urban ever filled a 50,000+ capacity stadium? And please let me know when Keith is on stage for three hours during his set! Also, ETOY is about portraying the country music image, and I believe Urban has been referred to as “Hollywood Boy” by music critics lately.

  67. 67
    gep Says:

Kenny portrays “country music” ? ? Lately, it seems he’s been portraying “island & pop music” and his stadium shows ARE total drunk-fests. If you read any of the reviews of his stadium shows that Keith played at , you’d see that people were AMAZED how GREAT Keith was. And since when is Kenny on stage for 3 solid hours??? EOTY is ALL ABOUT THE BUCKS RAKED IN AND NOTHING ELSE.

The show I was at – he was on the stage for that long!

I should have mentioned this before – as far as the drunks, it’s obvious that done of you have ever been to an all-day music festival. It happens everywhere when people start drinking in the morning, and imagine it going on for a full weekend! Your perfect Keith Urban has been a headliner at many of those concerts, so I guess that doesn’t say much for him, does it?

First of all, if Nicole had brought Sunday with her, some here would have been bashing her for putting her baby in danger by flying so much in such a short amount of time. I can hear it now…”If he loves her so much, how can he not be w/ her @ the premiere of her biggest role in years”…. It never ceases to amaze & frustrate me how much outsiders claim to know so much about these 2 people. Unless you know Nicole & Keith on a personal level you (& I for that matter) have no clue what they do or why they do it. I don’t blame them for not taking the baby for just a 24 hr stay. I would not want to mess with my baby’s schedule either. Not only is there the significant time change, there is, as stated earlier, the weather change. Why should Keith and Nicole be dogged for putting the welfare of the baby 1st and not only that, why aren’t parents allowed to have a little time alone? Any parenting book that you read says that you should put your marriage first and that the best gift that you can give to your children is to love and respect each other. Have none of you ever went out or on an overnight or weekend w/o your children? I guess I, like Nicole, am a terrible mother because I have.

  91. 91
    Karen Says:

Oh, regarding Kenny vs Keith. Kenny has not sold out stadiums of 50,000 fans by himself. He always has 3 or 4 other stars with him. As for when Keith was with him, they are GOOD friends and Keiths tour had just ended and he was in Nashville working on new songs and played a few shows with Kenny. If you read any of the reviews for those shows, they all stated that Keith Urban was the best of the entire show. I have been to see KU 4 times and he is a true entertainer. I have not seen Kenny so can’t comment on that but he has had some very good songs. I am not crazy about all of his songs about drinking and partying, but that is not who I am.

I wish they had of cast Kate Blanchett in Australia ,I find Nicole to unnatural on screen t have seen her last few movies and found her acting makes me cringe ,there is more to performing then designer clothes & cosmetics ,maybe she should of taken up modelling because her acting sinks
