Kate Winslet Covers Parade Magazine

Kate Winslet Covers Parade Magazine

Kate Winslet discusses the death of her first love to cancer, how she finds normalcy in her public life and the advice she wants to give her children in the latest issue of Parade. Her next film, Revolutionary Road, opens in December and is directed by her husband Sam Mendes.

During the interview, the 33-year-old British actress smokes a cigarette she rolled herself. Snippets below:

On seeing onscreen how she and former Titanic co-star Leo DiCaprio have aged: “I’m like, ‘Yes, damn it! Look at those foreheads move!’ I mean, he has this amazing furrow here (points to a spot between her eyebrows) which wasn’t as prominent then, and this (points to the wrinkles on her own forehead) is much more prominent in me now. I just love seeing those things. I am enjoying my face changing, as well as realizing that at the same time, as you get older, the machine isn’t as well-oiled as it was.”

How did that dynamic play out when working with Leo? Sam would try to surprise me or surprise Leo when we were doing scenes together, and because Leo and I do have sort of an almost telepathic connection, because we’ve known each other for such a long time and have remained friends consistently over all of these years, I know how Leo thinks, I know how he works, as he does with me. Sometimes, in order to just twist the scene around, Sam would quietly say to Leo, ‘Just surprise her; try this thing.’ Or he would come to me and say, ‘Try this — don’t tell him you’re going to do it.’ So he would have to do that, so that Leo and I were able to keep it fresh and alive.

This kind of real actors is what we want to see on the cover of magazines and JJ, not shallow actor wanna be-s like Jennifer Aniston. Yack. I’m sick and tired of seeing her f.. face and her getting millions of dollars in her account

  • Clarkwood

Aw! Kate and Leo…I always secretly wanted these two to date and get married! lol

After seeing stiff-faced wax doll Nicole Kidman in the other post and people praise for “perfect beauty” this is more like it. I would much rather see Kate Winslet onscreen she is a true talent and she is allowing herself to age gracefully and can express emotions on her face. I don’t want to see Nicole Kidman on my screen if it looks like it hurts for her to even smile or fake cry! Thank you Kate Winslet for staying natural, laying off superficial things like botox so that you can be real onscreen. That’s what a real actress does.

  • Michelle

I just love her, she’s so normal and real compared to other superficial actresses out there.

  • molly

to jasper i think you are being a little unfair because even though nicole looks like shes had plastic surgery that doesnt make her an unreal woman. i love kate but i also love nicole despite her plastic surgery because they are both very real and decent people. i know many real women who have had plastic surgery and are wonderful friends of mine. i am not saying this to be mean i just love those actresses and felt a need to defend nicole.

molly I said a real actress not a real woman. I think a real actress who cares about expressing emotion and their craft would have the courage to throw away vanity and age gracefully onscreen. Katherine Hepburn did it and Meryl Streep did it. And those are the actresses I admire and who have the longest careers. And it has been affecting Kidman’s acting lately. I respect Kate WInslet more as an actress for keeping it real.
