This looks SOO good, or at least the cast is great looking! Looks like nice chemistry between the leads.

I love this show – I saw in on Broadway and two touring companies. I’ve seen the movie more times than I can remember.

I’m sure it will be a hit and I hope that the bad economy doesn’t affect it.

I grew up adoring the Rita Moreno movie version…saw this cast in DC last week and they were ok. Anita and Maria were terrific, and the dancing was great. Tony, however, was the weakest link. His acting was forced and his voice — while the range was lovely — had FAR too much vibrato. He also came off as exceptionally wussy (for lack of a better word) and was not manly is the slightest. He and Maria had no chemistry. The men in this production were definitely weaker. High points: the dance, Officer Krupke, America, I Feel Pretty. Low points: Tony’s presence in general, Jet Song lacked bite, none of the men were truly believable as gang members in the way they were in the movie

Well Nat, I saw it on Broadway last Saturday. I thought it was awesome. I thought Cody Green as Riff stole the show away… Your right about Matt Cavanaugh as Tony his voice was not good at all.

Anyway, like I said, I think Cody Green was excellent and the girl that played Maria was also….

Thank you! I’m glad I’m not the only one who thought Matt’s acting was unconvincing. His voice is beautiful and his model looks are nice to gaze at, but as Tony he comes across as robotic, vacant and way too melodramatic. There was no warmth or vulnerability from him. I didn’t believe for a second that he loved Maria or even cared that she exhisted. Looked as if he were going over his grocery list or planning a house party in his mind through every one of those numbers. I like Cody alot. Josephina was great. Under-study did Anita, UGH! Still a great show though.

I saw WSS with Cody Green and also with his understudy, John Arthur Greene; John Arthur Greene was pretty good, but Cody Green is outstanding! I do love the entire show and everyone in it though…

Also. to those who think Matt’s voice is not good, maybe he was off when you saw him because both times I saw the show, I thought his voice was incredible and same for Josefina’s voice. Matt played the Tony role the way it’s supposed to be played; he’s a bland, Polish ex-gang member (nothing against Polish people, I’m just stating a fact).
