The Obamas Dance the Night Away

The Obamas Dance the Night Away

President Barack Obama and first Lady Michelle Obama dance the night away at the Home State Inaugural Ball, representing Hawaii and Illinois, held at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C. on Tuesday.

The President and First Lady danced to “At Last” by Etta James and performed by Beyonce.

First Lady Michelle Obama chose a cream-colored asymmetrical dress designed by Jason Wu. She wore a lemongrass colored outfit this afternoon during the Inauguration Ceremony.

WHAT DO YOU THINK of the First Lady’s evening dress — YAY or NAY?

And if you wanna go toe to toe, Laura Bush, Hillary Clinton, Barbara Bush, shall I go on? No one holds a candle to the grace and ellegence Michelle channels…

haters…It’s a sad day for you. If you can’t be proud of our country today, then you have to be the most pesemistic heart on the planet…this country has room for you..Try and learn..give and receive..the thoughts are endless.

Much better then the dress she had on earlier…but still not AMAZING…kinda boring and it didnt show up well on tv…

I was hoping for something with a halter and much more sparkle, and actual color. She would have looked great in a pale pink/lime green gown….would have looked fabulous with her skin tone…pink and brown always go well together. would have been nice to see her hair pulled back and put in an up-do….she looks best with her hair up…

but not a total loss, its was very pretty, just uninspiring…she needs a better stylist…this dress goes into the museum and she picks a foreign designer..that was dissappointing…owell….

Jackie-O looked magical, and clinton looked great in 1993…this dress on michelle wasnt memorable…sorry…

*28. racist folks like you are a minority getting even smaller. you’ll die miserable and lonely!

    >>>>>>>>>>

What no 28 doesn’t realise is that racism is bad for everyone, even people like it who think they are better.

    -
A society or a nation is a whole system. Racism infects the system like a cancer. It corrupts the system and if you live and operate within the system, you will also be infected. Don’t believe me?

    -
Check out south africa during apartheid. Sure the white south africans thought they had it good. But there were costs – and one of the costs was that these white south africans always lived in fear.

    -
Another cost? To be a racist, you must squash a part of your innocence and idealism. What do I mean? Well, take young children who are both, innocent and idealistic. Children don’t judge someone by his colour or race etc until they are taught to do so. Children simply see another human being and judge that person accordingly.

    -
And so if you think about it, racism exacts a steep price on all who live in a racist society, – even for the so-called winners.

And I can’t believe what some people are saying.. it’s a very good change, the US really needs a good change (but I don’t think that people who lives in the US [not everybody] don’t see that the country mush have to change to the better) and Obama is the right one! Sorry for saying this, but people gotta change their mind and dont be such a retards.. oh my, get over the whole black/white thing and everything. JJ, I would love to know WHY it is important to comment on Mrs. Obama’s dress sense. Why should this be of interest or relevant to anyone? As it happens she is a attractive woman who was dressed very appropriately for the Inauguration but are you going to publish pics of Mrs. Obama every day with the question….Yay/Nay?? This is totally ridiculous.

As a white European woman I never believed that the United States would have a non-white President. As a child I witnessed the newscasts of the black children being bussed into schools in the south and the appalling violence and terror which occurred. I admit that I was moved to tears when President Obama was taking his oath. It is a day of celebration for all the free world and not only the United States and I pray that he will be a strong and wise leader.

All his threads on fashion are ridiculous, when his knowledge of it is infantile, and the majority of America’s is. Do many on this thread even know she is showcasing a young AMERICAN designer and showcasing AMERICAN talent? All this yay/ nay bs just breeds nastiness. What happened or what was said during the closing prayer that was racist?

Could somebody please explain? Thankyou to anyone who answers my question.

    shelby Says:

Just because someone doesn’t think Michelle Obama is beautiful doesn’t make them racist.
It is not a pre-requisite to be beautiful to be a First Lady. It is not a beauty contest. It’s not the Victoria’s Secrets runway.
Some people may not think Michelle is beautiful….in fact they may think she is ugly. But those same people may think she is a great person, wife, mother etc etc……just not beautiful.
To call someone a racist because they don’t think Michelle is beautiful is absurd. To call someone racist is actually racist in itself.

  55. 55
    Frances Says:

I didn’t vote for Obama because I disagree with many of his policies, but as a person, he seems like someone I’d like to know. As for Michelle’s outfits, I thought she looked fabulous! She’s a beautiful woman in many ways — pretty, smart, caring, etc. It’s obvious they are great parents and seem to honestly love each other. Again, I’m not a fan of Obama’s policies, but for the sake of the country, I wish him the best of luck.

It was really nice to truly, truly see a real love between a husband & wife who just happens to be our new President & First Lady!! I must say these two just got and for those who don’t see it, never will.

Also addressing #32 about the end of the Rev. who was a civil rights activist with Martin Luther King who gave the prayer was not a racist quote. My mother who was a young women during that time said that only does over the age of 50 who lived through those years would understand the ending of that prayer. She said that that was a common saying back then. So it was not a dig towards anyone it was what was hoped for by many blacks for equality. The Rev. said it in honor of King and those who fought and lost their lives during a segregated/racist time for us to one day see this very historic opportunity, event & moment.

This dress is appropriate for a young lady in her 20s or 30s. NOT for someone almost 50. She looks like she’s wearing a prom dress.

decent color, slightly darker would have looked better with her skin. too much fluff. something simple and fitting would have been much better. keep the add ons to something along the neckline and not all over the place.

and michelle, please learn to do something else with your hair. that kind of dress is screaming for even a half up do and yet you do the same school marm flat ironed bob that you were all the time. glam it up darling, glam it up.

and I disagree somewhat with the Laura Bush comments. she was not the classiest First Lady we’ve had. but folks are right that even a page from her book wouldn’t hurt Michelle at this point.

  66. 66
    Good news! Says:

After reading all of the negative comments on here I am soooooo glad to have a First Lady in the office who wears what she feel is appropriate for her and her body type! She is not fazed by trying to wear the most expensive gowns to suit the world, she chose to keep it low key but also give some up and coming designers an opportunity to shine and boost the business of small business, get SMALL BUSINESS! So therfore all you naysayers and poo pooers can bite it!! Michelle is a real women with class, smarts (really smart) and beautiful inside & out! She truly represented her & Baracks mission to be a President & First Lady for the people not just the rich people.

They are the ones who requested a ball for the people and chose to spend the majority of their time at two balls that was most important to them. The Neighborhood & Commander of Chief balls and made the foo foo balls the last on their list. I llllloooooovvvveeee them because they are us, real people. Haters can hate on because whether he do well or not (which is will do more than well I believe) he has already made a difference in this country and around the world!

  67. 67
    Good news! Says:

Also, you guys that are gripping would be really crying about her dress would be yelling if she chose to purchase a Carolina Herrera, Dior, or some other overpriced gown. You would be saying they are oblivious to the economy and so on. Just face it you haters and Bush lovers (why I have no idea when he litterally collapsed the American economy to a mountain debt) will never be happy with the majority of America’s choice of leadership, yet you will even grip during the benefits of your new president. The President will just continue to do what he do and brush that dirt off his shoulder and move on to business. No time for haters babble!

Seraphina: No what do a size 14 tell us??? I mean we know she is not skin & bones, we know she is not fat, and we know that that is the average size of most american women. So I don’t get your point.

Also, anything that goes into publication in these vain times are going to be photoshopped to some degree, again what’s your point??

  80. 80
    serephina Says:

It’s unfortunate that when Bush took office from Clinton there was a recession already in place and within months, because Clinton – just like Obama wants to do – downsized our military capacity including weapons, gear, equipment – within months of Bush’s taking office we had the greatest attack on our country ever! We had the worst natural disaster Ever! Within months the Tech sector of Wall Street Fell apart and oh yeah – we went to war.

Now, hard to believe 8 years later we have not had another attack on the United States land although many plots were foiled. We are in an economic downturn yes – but that is cyclical and comes about every 8-10 years – Just ask Clinton.

If it were not for the war, Bush’s economic policy’s were one of the best in recent times. With oil prices across the world sky rocketing and causing every nation to plummet in a financial abyss as well as the democratic laws which required lenders to give home loans to indiviiduals who were unqualified to actually pay the mortgage – then yes we have economic problems

But, now you will see what it is really like to pay for social programs of those who have no desire to improve their iives. Your taxes are going to go up across the board – unless of course you receive welfare and then you will be geting a larger check.

Yeah – Im really excited for this presidency.

  81. 81
    irene Says:

I think that “classy” is a bit different of “elegant”. As a foreign observer, I think that Laura Bush is very classy, as Hillary was when she was first lady, but both of them looked very elegant with the outifts they chose (Jackie was a whole different issue).
Same thing happens to Queen Elizabeth, for example, in comparison let’s say… Queen Silvia of Sweden or even the Spanish queen or the Japanese princess Masako compared to Maxima of the Netherlands.

  82. 82
    Eve Says:

The inaugural outfit was made of a bulky fabric that made her look heavy and Mrs. Obama’s ball gown looks like a prom dress.

It’s disappointing. She dresses so wonderfully and looks so sleek and sophisticated generally, it’s sad to see her fail on these most important occasions.

  83. 83
    Eve Says:

Mrs. Bush’s dove gray outfit was selected so she would not compete with Mrs. Obama.

The same principle applies at weddings. Women (who are informed) do not dress in dramatic colors, patterns, or styles for a wedding.. All attention should be on the bride.

  84. 84
    DIANE Says:

Thought the dress looked like something you’d wear to a junior prom.

Plus…didn’t she try to dance in it before the ball. She looked so uncomfortable picking at her dress as she tried to dance. Very awkward.

She should have picked a brightly colored tailored Maria Pinto dress that would have complimented her coloring and figure better.

Barack, on the other hand, looked great as always.

  85. 85
    boogie Says:

I’m afraid her dress is not good.

Looks like little cotton balls glued all over. If you look at the dress close up in the first photo- it looks like someone put it together at the last minute!

hopefully, she will get better fashion help later.

If his mother was proud of her son, then why did she throw him away when hes small? Thank God for his white grandmother. Birgit Says:

I think NAY. She shouldn’t have gone with a sleveless dress. Her upper arms are a bit flabby and with all the waving she did that did look a bit unalluring.

  98. 98
    lula29 Says:

I loved the dress! She looked great!

All the other First ladies, save Jackie O, just looked old. Maybe that stoigy, stuffy look is “classy” to some people, but to me it just wreaks of old lady.

Michelle has such a sense of youth, style and fun in her clothing choice, save the suit she wore during the day (I didn’t like it). She takes risks which is very contemporary. In this day in age, a woman in her 40′s is still considered to have a lot of life in her left and I love that she represents that new take on middle age.

Also, I love how the Obama’s always give a shout out to artist and up in coming designers!!!! My God! They are so in tune to the next wave or little known! I love that about them. Obama and Shepard Fairey,l and Michelle and Jason Wu, and Isabel Toledo, etc.

  99. 99
    ctx Says:

Lime dress was too glittery for a daytime function, tacky. Was she trying to upstage her husband?
White gown looked beautiful on her but reminds me of being a debutante gown, not meant for the presidential ball

  100. 100
    Anon Says:

I think the dress made her look wilted. The skirt didn’t flatter her figure. Her hair was messy, too. He looked hot allll night long.

They are a very beautiful couple. I love them. But she needs to up her game.

  101. 101
    LINDA Says:

    #77 – i can assure you she in NOT a size 14. She’s an 18.

  102. 102

These photos have been photoshopped BIG TIME. They’ve cut Michelle’s figure by about 2 sizes.

  103. 103
    hacb Says:

I think they looked beautiful. Loved the dress and her earlier ensemble.

Not sure if this was already pointed out, but I think you have your Inauguration Balls mixed up. Beyonce performed At Last at the Neighborhood Ball for their first dance.

    leah Says:

Obama as president almost makes me which I was an American. No offense to you Americans but Obama will change the US to be more like Canada and our public health care. You all need it desperately.

This family will make so many changes to America that he will be the greatest thing in history by far!

All you McCain supporters out there… I hope you all realize that this is not about celebrities. I hope you all soon will come to realize what his changes will bring and support this president and please don’t tell your children that you once supported for McCain.

    a total fan Says:

she looked ok, the dress not so much. I would have liked to have seen her in more dramatic color. I wanted her to make an entrance and have everyone say ..WOW!! But she looked ok.

  106. 106
    Lynley Says:

Didn’t really like the dress. It looks like it should have been strapless or something. It’s just off a little somehow. And Michelle kept having to mess with it, constantly hiking the bottom up when she danced and walked. It looked like it would be a pain to wear. But, even so, I like the Obamas and wish them well.

  107. 107
    pinkrose Says:

Number 6, you are such an ignoramus. The balls are not govt. sponsored, so your taxes were not used to stage any ball. These are balls sponsored by private individuals and groups – with the execption of maybe the Armed Forced Ball. You should not talk nonsense just for an opportunity to hate on the Obamas.

  108. 108
    lulu Says:

Michelle totally rocked yesterday — the daytime outfit and color were sensational; in the evening she was really the belle of the ball. Absolutely agree with the former poster — it’s terrific that she’s going with unsung designers like the great Isabel Toledo and Jason Wu. Ralph, Donna, Calvin and Oscar are wonderful, but it’s time for a change!

I was hoping for something with a halter and much more sparkle, and actual color
    XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

As you said, the gown did not show up well on TV.

“The one-of-a-kind silk chiffon confection was embellished with organza rosettes, Swarovski crystal rhinestones and silver embroidery.

The first lady accessorized with diamond chandelier earrings, a white gold and diamond ring and a stack of diamond bangles by jeweler Loree Rodkin. ”

    Ali Says:

Although I think she is wonderful, this dress was not my favorite. It seemed like prom dress rather than an inaugural dress. Something in color with a little more elegance/sparkle would have been nice. But mostly, her dancing in it at 10 balls should have been considered. The train got sooooo tiresome after a while – that they couldn’t really move because of the train. And by the end, it looked like she just wanted to cut it off. Bad thinking on the designer’s part. All in all, she is fabulous, though. Love this family.

  118. 118

Why is it that if someone says something that is even the tiniest bit negative about the Obama’s do they become a racist??? I thought everyone said his election into office had nothing to do with his skin color. All other past presidents have had negative things said about them as well and they where all white, so does that mean people where racist to them as well? If we are looking beyond his color, then negative comments should be taken as that, just as they have for everyone else and not an open invitation to call someone names. NEGATIVE COMMENTS MADE ABOUT AN OUTFIT AT THAT!!! Me thinking your outfit is awful doesn’t translate into “I spew hate your way because of your race”, get a grip people.

(CNN) — Jamaal Young was watching Barack Obama and his family greet an ecstatic crowd in Chicago, Illinois, on Election Night when he realized that something seemed wrong.

President Obama and his wife, Michelle, and their daughters, Malia and Sasha, greet the nation.
    1 of 3

Obama didn’t shout at his wife, Michelle, to shut up. The first lady didn’t roll her eyes and tell Obama to act like a man. No laugh track kicked in, no one danced, and no police sirens wailed in the background.

Young had tuned in to celebrate the election of the nation’s first African-American president. But he realized that he was witnessing another historic first. A black family was being featured as the first family, not the “problem family” or the “funny family.”

“They are not here to entertain us,” says Young, a New York Press columnist. “Michelle Obama is not sitting around with her girlfriends saying, ‘My man ain’t no good.’ You’re not seeing this over -sexualized, crazy black family that, every time a Marvin Gaye song comes on, someone stands up and says, ‘Oh girl, that’s my jam.’ “

Uh Right is absolutely wrong. Laura Bush excited no one. She never made it as an international icon and was a step down from Hillary.
its not that she was a bad looking woman just never associate glamor with her. For 8 years she was essentially a nobody in ways no one could ever say about Jackie, Nancy or Hillary.

  136. 136
    susanist Says:

Uh right! Wrong again. I know many of you would like to think that racism is a two-way street but most Blacks love Whites in America and are only frustrated in that their love is returned with hate and indifference. However, if you want to say prejudice is a 2-way street then you would be right. However to be a racist means having the political power to legislate and enforce laws that affirm a master race over an inferior. In other words Obama would have to pass laws to make being white a legal disadvantage. Are there some Blacks resentful of Whites? Sure but this is not racism neither are those Blacks who believe they are superior to Whites because they lack again the police and legislative power to enforce their bias.

Racism is a total system of racial supremacy which is institutionalized beyond an individual’s capacity to love or hate. No Black has ever come close to doing wht Whites have done even those thugs who target Whites for muggings don’t have the backing of church and state necessary for real racism. A victims hatred and desire for vengence against an oppressor is not racism. Neither does it matter how many whites and blacks are friends or lovers it was always the institution of racist that overruled the good sentiments of the individual who may not have been. Blacks don’t have any institution which enforces Black Supremacy to the the denial of White political rights.

So take your Reverse Racism arguments and shove it.

Your statements are wrong but worthy of the parrot preachings of a Rush Limbaugh Ditto-head. On the military. This is the reason for the economy suffering. None of you hawks really support the war effort. i don’t see any of you rushing to volunteer to serve in the military. Your favoritie politicians campaign on the mantra of ‘tax cut.’ while an expensive war is being fought. Bush went from mistake to mistake which were the result of his incompetence and the foolishness of too many Americans like you.

The so-called recession is too complex an issue but remember Republicans crippled the government by trying to impeach a President over blowjob. that absorbed much of the energy of govenrment during the 2nd Clinton administration in what was accurately an attempt by Neo-confederates to overthrown a Federal Government. Same with the California recall only Schwartzeneggar is very different than what you had in mind.

The war is being fought where the real US casualties are Dead Presidents as in the money being throw away. The Islamist do not aime at killing Americans, their aim is to destroy the US economy based on their own methods of fighting as well as lessons learned from Mao and Giap’s People’s War. Take a lot of casualties, avoid frontal assaults, be patient and watch the US economy falter.

How much money does it cost to armor plate 1 hummer which is then used to fight against non-state warriors armed with AK 047′S a grenade-launcher and a cell-phone? That’s the deep hole the US economy is sinking into. Aghanistan and Iraq and later Somaila and now Nigeria will bury us in ways Krushchev never dreamed.

Please spare us your Parrot utterances.

The lemongrass thing worn during the day was hideous, but not nearly as bad as that black and red spider getup she wore on election night. Amazingly fugly dress.
