One Year Later - Remembering Heath Ledger

One year ago, Hollywood lost one of its brightest stars, Heath Ledger. His untimely death was the result of an accidental drug overdose.

Heath leaves us with a tapestry of cinematic inspiration, best known for his roles in Monster’s Ball, A Knight’s Tale, Brokeback Mountain, and most recently, The Dark Knight.

This year, Heath won a posthumous Golden Globe for his role as the diabolical villain, The Joker, in The Dark Knight.

Additionally, Heath was just Oscar nominated for Best Supporting Actor for his work in The Dark Knight.

Other nominees for best supporting actor include: Josh Brolin, Milk; Robert Downey Jr., Tropic Thunder; Philip Seymour Hoffman, Doubt; and Michael Shannon, Revolutionary Road.

Heath, who would have been 28, is survived by 3-year-old daughter, Matilda Rose.

God gives you life to live it, not to take it away. Assumptions have been made but who knows what happened. A life is still a life, even if it is your enemy’s so RIP Heath.

A THOUSAND people killed in Palestine but is there a tribute for the innocent children, men and women who lost their lives?

  • Kandy

Congratulations to the Ledger family for Heath’s nomination, which I’m sure is bittersweet for them. Hope he wins. He was amazing as the Joker and he owned TDK. He deserves it.

  • Jamie

RIP Heath… You’re always alive in Matilda everyday.

  • jo-jo

OH & everyone complaining about what I wrote. You Americans are so self-obsessed and ignorant. You see the world in a haze of gold. Get over these STUPID film stars and wake up and see whats happening in the rest of the world.

Forget about the Palestinians? Why don’t you sdfu, if your family were to f ucking die you wouldn’t turn around and start crying over a movie star who had millions in the bank and commited suicide. F ucking ignorant b astards

Mary-Kate Olsen still walks free. Even though everyone knows she killed Heath Ledger. When will there be justice?

  • jo

I cant believe it’s been a year. I fell in love with him in 10 things i hate about you. i love that movie.

  • n.o.l.a

I feel sorry for Mathilda that her daddy is not around but Heath was an idiot for risking his life with drugs. His joker is ICONIC! It will be extremely difficult for anyone to step into that role now. Kudos on the nom for the Dark Knight franchise.

  • leah

Wow one year. A great actor that is missed, i will enjoy his work for a long time. RIP Heath

You want to talk about a deadbeat dad.. why not Heath who did not think of his daughter when he took too many pills.. and who does not
care that he had at least 6 to 8 prescriptions.. as if he didn’t know which ones not to take.. Make Heath’s parents come up collect the
Oscar since we all know that he is going to win.. Than they can take
it home to Austrailia..since Michelle has not said one word of the
Golden Globe.. nor did she say anything about accepting it!

Here he is being nominated again for an OSCAR..!!! of all things.. this
time dedicate it to all the ‘accidental overdose celebrities out there…

  • http://Q Hortense

Ledger’s performance in BBM was the greatest movie acting in the last 25 years. He should have gotten the Oscar for it. Giving him an award now is just a sop thrown to relieve the conscience of the movie industry. Too late Hollywood; you screwed up.

  • Dear Heath,

    I miss you.

  • suzette

it still feels like it was yesterday
    always in our minds

  • Andy

    Can’t believe it’s been a year already.

  • black

    One year????

Are you kidding me———this can´t be over a year already!!

Ts, time flows fast, damn it. Whatever, after having finally seen “Batman” 2—-I must say one thing——-he certainly didn´t deserve an Oscar.

Sure, he was good, but not exceptional—–and his constant tongue action got on my nerves as well.

Christian Bale certainly would have deserved an Oscar more, in Batman 1 at least.

  • kyrah

R.I.P. heath.. il miss seein you in movies .. 1 year has flown passed.. gone but not forgotten

  • Ivana

    Great comment…. :)))

  • wish

Not a time to bring up the past.Heath should be remember for the work he did in life. And a loving father and actor.Wish have seen all the attention he got from his works instead of his personal life. You was good actor in your lifetime.

  • gina

Really hard to believe it has been a year.

  • andy

he was a big actor, and we miss him, RIP

  • Michelle

    R.I.P. Heath!

  • felicia

I’m amazed at the number of idiots on this board. Get a life people…with your conspiracy theories and nonsensical analogies. Learn to spell, and learn to puncuate your sentences correctly. But most of all, learn some compassion.

Heath was an awesome human being, and will never be forgotten.

  • slambang

Heath was 28 when he died. He would have turned 29 last April. This April 4 would have been his 30th birthday.

Rest in peace, Heath – you will NEVER be forgotten!

  • TigerMan

    Just another Hollywood junkie.
    What’s with all the hoopla?
    He was an “actor,” folks.
He “acted” his way through life.
What, you think he shit gold bricks????

  • Tasya

    rest in peace, Heath

  • Li

I liked his style only seen him in A Knights Tale and The Dark Knight but he was good in them.

  • Anon

Heath, who was born in 1979, would have been 30 on April 4, 2009. He died before his 29th birthday.

Let’s see now last year Heath was remembered for Broke Back Mountain Batman had not been released yet.. So what does that
tell you.. Looking for Jake Gyallanhall..for his reaction.. wow.. he
came back from London with a bad case of the flu..he had several
visitors… In honor of Heath let’s make his movie the last Batman
movie..!! Since he could not finish his other movie and Bigger stars
had to finish it for him.. make up again..!!

  • Nini

It never ceases to amaze me how crude and cynical some people can be. You make assumptions like you know him; assumptions based on the media rumor mill which are all false. Please people, get over yourselves.

RIP Heath, always missed but never forgotten .x.

  • justine

    I miss him….
Still remember the day when I found out…
His beautiful spirit lives on Matilda :)

  • [☆I n F a m o u s☆]

i’m glad heath’s winning all these awards. i was NEVER a fan of him when he was living, hell i really didn’t want him to play the joker. Lol but after that great, masterful performance i cant help but to like the guy a tiny bit.
heath as the joker was some of the best acting i’ve ever seen in my life (maybe the best). everything won is deserved.

  • Augus

Heath thanks for being my inspiration.
He will be eternally missed, but he will never be forgotten.
Your eternally friend… see you soon.
