OlderKate Winslet Hits Santa Barbara Film Festival
Kate Winslet knocks it out of the fashion ballpark in a stunning black-and-white Narciso Rodriguez dress at the 24th Annual Santa Barbara Film Festival at the Arlington Theatre on Friday (January 23) in Santa Barbara, Calif.
The 33-year-old actress, who finished off her look with Christian Louboutin peep-toes and Chopard jewels, was honored with the festival’s Montecito Award.
Kate was recently nominated for Best Actress in a Leading Role for her work in The Reader (and not Revolutionary Road). She’s up against Anne Hathaway (Rachel Getting Married), Angelina Jolie (Changeling), Melissa Leo (Frozen River) and Meryl Streep (Doubt).

Kate has done what she used to continually brag about never doing. She has gone Hollywood and glammed it up. She hardly looks like herself anymore. I know she really, really wants the Oscar. Leaving her husband to hook up with and marry Sam Mendes was step one.
She does look good but her aggressive campaign to get that Oscar has meant that now not only England knows what a flibbertigibbet she is – the whole world is learning it.

One thing I love about Kate is that she doesn’t care about box office success,(which is weird since she starred in the highest grossing movie)
Kate cares about the art. If she likes the role, she’ll take it. Most of her movies after Titanic have been box office poison, but she doesn’t care. She’s a true actress.

Thanks Kay for pointing that out because some of the people on this site have been really pathetic but then someone reminded me that this site is literred with Angelina Jolie obsessed loonies who think she is entitled to win everything and the world revolves around her so they have been angry at Kate since the Globes where she obviously accidentally forgot her name and are turning it into something nasty. But the real issue is they are jealous because Kate is a more respected actress than Jolie, and is sweeping the awards. I saw the Reader and she was so brilliant in it even better than Streep in Doubt. If Winslet doesn’t win this year something is wrong with you people.
And Kate has GREAT fashion sense what are you talking about. She always wears amazing things to the Oscars. I’ll never forget that gorgeous red dress with the flowers draped on the shoulder she wore to the 2002 Oscars (which Anne Hathaway copied last year) or the beautiful blue dress she wore when she was nominated for Eternal Sunshine. She’s one of the best dressed celebrities! She’s been wearing chic outfits to premieres too like the LA premiere of Revolutionary Road. And I like this dress here, it’s a very chic design. She is the English rose for sure.

I miss the old kate. I do love her and she is gorgeous. But she always claimed she never played the hollywood game but that’s what she’s doing now. Please don’t jump on me! Just my opinion.

Janet, you don’t have to apologize because you are right. Kate Winslet has flown under the radar for years and now she’s being bombarded at airports? Her people are running a full out campaign for the Oscar and that is totally fine, but she wants to act like she is above it all and she is playing the game as well as anyone. Everyone knows that she will probably win the Oscar but no one really says that it’s really about her performance in “The Reader” they just keep saying how it’s a shame that she hasn’t won yet after being nominated so many times. i find it hysterical the people who claim to love her so much yet her box office performances have been dismal since Titanic. Let’s face it a lot of the Winslet lovefest has to do with her winning over AJ at the GGs and then “accidentally” dissing her at the same time.

To #28 there’s nothing wrong with glamming it up! Just because Kate is down to earth doesn’t mean she’s not allowed to look lovely at events. She even says she feels like playing a part when she’s doing that sort of glamour thing. Do you want her to show up at premieres in her jammies?
I can’t believe how rude you are about her marriage to Sam Mendes being step one. Who are you to say something like that? Are you them? You can’t deny their relationship. It’s real.
Goodness this woman NEVER does win. Never. There’s always at least someone who complains. When she loses weight, people call her a sell out. When she gains some weight, we have delusional people who call her fat. When she says she wants an Oscar people criticize her for taking awards too seriously. When she pretends not to care, people call her out for it. I think people are jealous of her success.
She’s a talented and lovely woman with a good head on her shoulders, a good strong head on her shoulders. She speaks her mind and I like that. She doesn’t give a flying **** about what people say or think of her. She just does her job. And she does a damn well good job.
I agree with both Janet and Hmm. Kate has always been an unbelievable actress but everyone’s only jumped on the bandwagon this year. What about all the previous movies that she acted so wonderfully? And when did she start to conform so much? Her make-up, outfits, body shape, and even attitude have changed a bit. She’s acting just like the people she pretends to despise. She’s so gorgeous and talented butI agree. I want the old Kate back!

She’s hardly ‘box office posion’. Her films were not made for the Box Office.
Nicole Kidman, however, not hating on her, but she makes too many big budget films, so it’s not a shock that her films suffer at the Box Office.

Kate really knocked this one out of the park. She’s an amazing and talented actress and a beautiful person.
Her co-star, David Kross, was excellent as well.
I have to read and see Revolutionary Road next. I’m such a Kate Winslet fan.
