Angelina Jolie's Backwards Dress Explained

Angelina Jolie's Backwards Dress Explained

Angelina Jolie wore her cornflower blue Max Azria gown backward at Sunday’s SAG Awards in Los Angeles.

Her stylist Jen Rade tells Us Weekly that Angie decidedly wore the dress from back-to-front to make it “more blouson” (a dress with a fitted waistband over which material blouses).

The way Angie wore her dress — from the Spring 2009 collection — showed off her back tattoos more. She finished off her look with Tiffany & Co. jewels and Christian Louboutin shoes.

Who wore Max Azria best — ANGELINA JOLIE or THE RUNWAY?

Angie looks amazing in that dress, makes her look like she put on weight. She looks very healthy, her hair looks nice and her makeup very simple. Ok gotta get ready to leave now..

    SO WHAT?!
    -
Angie’s NOT the first to do something different to a designer gown/dress… A lot of runway clothes (to me) look like they’re worn backwards & yet they’re thousands of dollars & purchased!
    -
While Diana, Princess of Wales was still married to Charles, she was well known for altering her clothes & jewelery. Example: a diamond & emerald choker meant to be worn around the neck was converted to a headband; she also wore real gems with costume jewelery. She was her OWN person with her OWN style rather than a follower of a trend-pack mentality: Everybody do what I do! Read about it here…

Never nothing about talent and career success. She is going to be 40. That is not old.
    ********************************************************************************************

It’s old for an actress. There are very, very few actresses in Hollywood with active careers after 40, unless they can play a wide variety of roles. Aniston is too old to be playing Rachel Greene any more, and she doesn’t know how to do anything else. Meryl Streep she ain’t.
    ++++++++++++++++++
Good point. I would go further to say that Meryl, while one of the most respected actresses in Hollywood is not and has never been a “conventional” beauty. She has had 4 kids and been willing to take risks. Angie has the same mindset. Not afraid to stretch herself as an actress or take risks. She was in some real stinkers (She-Devil with Roseanne Barr) but she keeps on working because she has great talent. Seriously can you see Maniston in “The Devil wears Prada”?!?!
But you could see Angie playing that role in 20 years.

Alot of the women in Hollywood that have had enduring careers are not conventional in appearance. Bette Davis, Katherine Hepburn, Shirly Maclaine. They are women who have the ability to play a variety of roles.

Every movie Maniston has is simply recycled Rachel Green.

Angelina is a mother now, with a committment to her family. She doesn’t need to prove anything. she has what she wants. She has meaning and purpose in her life.

Maniston sits on her couch with Norman and reads headlines and blogs about how “hot” she is, or makes planes with Huvane as to how to get on the tabs.

Those ridiculous stories about how the “tabloids won’t keep me from falling in love” or, “I would be a good relationship counselor” ewwww.

MOVIE REVIEW: The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (12A)
Will David Fincher’s modern fable earn Brad Pitt that ellusive Oscar?…
    image

    Thursday 29th Jan 2009
MOVIE REVIEW: The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (12A) …m

It’s a conundrum that has even the biggest movie fans stumped. Few have contributed more to the profile of Hollywood than it’s favourite A-List son, Brad Pitt. However, the senior half of Brangelina has never received the ultimate industry recognition – the Oscar. Nominated once (for ’95′s 12 Monkeys, trivia fans), and oh-so-close with last year’s nomination for The Assassination of Jesse James…, will his latest epic (itself nominated 13 times for this year’s awards) do the trick?

David Fincher disappointed many with the so-so Zodiac, so it will come as great news that this film (his third with Pitt) is an instant classic. The scope of the film demands a unique style of filmmaking, and Fincher has just that. The dark, murky feel of films like Panic Room and Fight Club is present here, but twisted in such a way as to make the smallest things beautiful. Indeed, early comparisons to Forest Gump are a little unfair, as while the protagonist is an innocent, the beauty of the story is much more in marvelling at the little moments life offers us through the eyes of someone like Button, a person eager to be a part of a world that can never accept him. A fantastic script, believable effects and gorgeous visuals make for a modern fairy tale, a fable about the fragility of life.

There are many strong performances – Ormond provides the perfect point of view for the audience, Swinton is her usual spiky self, and Henson is wonderfully maternal as the only normal family Benjamin could ever have. But it’s the two central performances that take your breath away. Blanchett is, as ever, near perfect as Daisy, who in her own way is an outcast and finds herself in just as difficult a predicament as her lover when the two ‘meet in the middle’ age-wise. The biggest applause, however, must go to Pitt. ‘Career-defining’ may be a difficult term to use, given his performances in the past, but his endearing child-like love of the world makes you love his character and really go along with him through all the ups and downs.

A heart-breaking ending caps off a brilliant, fantastic film, more than worthy of all the nominations bestowed on it and akin to sweeping epics such as The English Patient. It may have a fight on its hands given the competition, but awards or no awards, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button is superb.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button is out February 6.

Thank you for all pictures from Japan premiere!! She is so beautiful!! Everybody loves Angie, just look how Frieda Pinto talks about her!! She is so beautiful!! I liked a lot this black dress and I loved this dress from SAG awards, very beautiful, she is wearing it better than model!! I can’t believe how Jen fans are desperate, Angie and Brad are nominated for every single award this year, and they are making fun because they didn’t won?!? Please, they are nominated for Oscar, and all those awards – this is HUGE honor!! I guess that Jen fans also make fun out of Peter O’Toole? Peter was nominated 8 times for Oscar and still didn’t won!! Or maybe Jen fans also make fun out of Paul Newman, he won his first Oscar in 1987 when he was 62!! Jen fans are really the worst fans in the world, making fun out of this amazing movies, Changeling is simply great movie, and Benjamin Button also!!

Angie is a classy lady. Gown is worn best the way Angie wore it. Simple and elegant.

Runway has a lot of pieces of cloth just hanging out, too busy with nonsense which distracts the beauty of the one wearing it. Looks cheap.

    ANGELINA.

  • ny girl

    Angelina.
    1. She has a much prettier face than the model (runway models tend to be a bit on the fugly side… sad but true).
    2. Her body is much better (again, runway models’ bodies tend to be on the human skeleton side, combined with their fugly/plain faces… to quote Vogue, today’s runway models are a group of walking zombies.
    3. The way she wore it is more subtle, with her front hidden (but still showing her chest) and her back showing.
    4. Angelina already has two Golden Globes and one Oscar in her early 20s.

  • blaire

On the Jen Aniston and Angelina thing.
Only on their acting careers (because everyone has their own subjective opinion on other things such as beauty and character).
Angelina is way better recognized than Aniston. Aniston has one role in a sitcom. And she was the last woman of the cast to receive any award recognition for her role. I think even hardcore Friends fans would agree with me that Monica and Phoebe were acted much better than Rachel. Even then, Jen got her award AFTER she got together with Brad.
Angelina had two consecutive Golden Globes and one Oscar before she was 30. In that regard she was doing even better than Brad Pitt. She had also shown ranged in her acting from action to goth to drama, from sex-symbols to crazy people to a detective to a mother and to a wife. The only thing she hasn’t tried is romantic comedy, which is not particularly respected in the industry anyway.
Also, Jen can only do romantic comedies (the dramas she did, like “the Good Girl” are big failures, and she looked like George W. Bush in that movie, and was totally over shone by Jake Gyllenhaal.). Even in that industry, she is by no means the caliber of Cameron Diaz, Reese Witherspoon and Julia Roberts. The first one had been hugely successful, the latter two are well-recognized as excellent actresses in addition to their box-earning powers.
Really, to be cruelly honest, Jen Aniston had Rachel Greene and Brad Pitt to support her career. Without constantly stirring out news regarding Brangelina, how is a washed out, middle-aged ex-sitcom star ever getting this much tabloid? Even as Rachel Greene, she was overshadowed by her co-stars. Her appeal then was she was “the pretty one” in a successful sitcom. What is her appeal now?

  • ameliorative

go Angie go…a fashion trend is not a must…
she still sexy and the dress look better…

  • Rocky Naomi Rockwell-Reed

Angelina is not the first to think of this Flip, many actresses have Flipped there dresses, glam shirts, even dress jackets. If you look back in the years of Award Shows and the Red Carpet you would see many that have made there mark with this fashion flip. As long as you can pull this strong risk off like Angelina has, more power to her. It looks great on her, and is Subtle and sexy that a classic Angelina look.

    http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/alltherage/2009/01/closet-case-ang.html

Closet Case: Angelina Jolie’s no-nonsense style
    By Booth Moore
    .
Angelina Jolie has to know how difficult it is to take her seriously with all the tabloid drama that follows her around. Which might have something to do with her no-nonsense style.
    .
I can’t stop thinking about the blue Max Azria dress she wore to the SAG awards over the weekend. She’s worn Azria’s gowns to several big events, including Cannes and the VH1 Critic’s Choice Awards. Although certainly not inexpensive, his designs are accessible (Max Azria is the runway collection counterpart to BCBG), which seems right for right now. The ink-blue silk georgette SAG awards dress ships in March and will cost $798.
    .
Jolie is one of the few celebrities who has developed a signature red carpet look — drapey, goddess-like dresses that show off her tattooed shoulders, natural hair, minimal makeup and jewelry. Some have criticized the look as dowdy, but I would call it self-aware. She’s using clothing to control her image. In a way, Jolie is telling us she’s transcended fashion and won’t be at the whims of whatever designer or jeweler happens to be the highest bidder. That alone sets her apart from the starlet pack, giving her integrity as an actress and mother, instead of just a mannequin.

sooo I was really bored at work and came across this website.
I think it looks really nice on angelina, she pulls off the back look very nicely. but for runway it looks nice on the model, the way I see it… it’s two dresses in one, what a buy!! lol

Also I think people should realize that bodies come in all sjapes in sizes some are skinny some are curvy, why is it that big of a deal. she is a mature adult who gave birth to three children obviously this changes a persons body but motherhood becomes her.
