Michelle Obama Covers "Vogue" March 2009

Michelle Obama Covers

Michelle Obama takes the March 2009 cover of Vogue, as photographed by famed photographer Annie Leibovitz.

The 45-year-old First Lady wore a sleeveless magenta dress by Jason Wu, the same designer she wore during the Inaugural Ball.

When asked about her daughters, 10-year-old Malia and 7-year-old Sasha, Michelle said, “I’m going to try to take them to school every morning, as much as I can. But there’s also a measure of independence. And obviously there will be times I won’t be able to drop them off at all. I like to be a presence in my kids’ school. I want to know the teachers; I want to know the other parents.”

WHAT DO YOU THINK of Michelle’s first Vogue cover — YAY or NAY?

Really? This is the cover? I feel so under-whelmed. I think it could have been so much more glamourous- Anna Wintour dropped the ball on this one :(

  • http://couturelollipops.blogspot.com gregory Freeman

she leaves really mean, like scowling… should have choice a better picture

  • a total fan

Pretty but it doesn’t really look that professional.

  • Halli

Why is Annie Leibovitz or whatever her name is the only Photographer Conde Naste uses?

This is a bad picture of Michelle. She’s prettier than this photo/

  • Halli

Also big mistake covering up her nice long neck.

  • gisele

i don’t really care. i don’t think she should be on vogue. she really isn’t that fashionable.

  • noelle

I dont understand why she would be on the cover of a fashion magazine.

  • Katryna

Hmm…it’s fine, it’s just not anything really exciting. I find it really predictable and boring. And she looks really fierce…but not in a good way; kinda like she’s deviously plotting against someone…

  • CC

    weird expression.

  • jo

she looks terrific. Not Nancy Regan or Laura B… thank God!

  • dazy

Bravo!! nicely done though i concur with those above that this could be done better. and she’s on the cover b/c the demand is there. nice change – vogue embodies smart, fashionable women so its about time the new 1st lady graced the cover!

  • Twilight

    She looks tense.

  • gjc

LOVE it! She is amazing. Can’t wait to pick up this issue!

  • Tina

seriously this is the cover? NO WAY wow ultra simplicity. Nothing special in fact it looks boring and dull.

  • Jay

She’s beautiful but this is disappointing.
    Bad photo.

  • Vee

I agree–bad photo. Conde Nast is trying to give her a suductive appearance rather than the dignified stand she deserves. She can be personable without trying to be sexy.

  • lacey

    YAY!

  • mike

Love her but meh on the pic.

  • Jennie

totally buying this!!! and i usually dont like vogue, but i’ll make an exception here!

  • Jo

She is great, but i agree bad cover pic. Sorry to say but she has very masculine features.

  • henita

  • jill

she might be a nice lady or not…..

her choppers are like a horse

  • elia

    SHE LOOKS UGLY!

  • Andy

    awful photo.

  • bridget

The first lady the worlds been waiting for??? ROTFLMAO………………. um yeah, not so much…. I have not been waiting for a woman who is anti-America..anyhow, the cover is good for a laugh!!

  • Wtf

Why does everyone make such a big deal out of her? She’s not good looking at all.

    Vomit please.

She has a nice sense of style, but that’s it. Nothing special about her. Next please.

Also ps she looks like a rat.

  • Jee

What? her in VOGUE? Is this some April fool or something?
she looks half man, she look a bit animalesque, almost like a m….. (i’d better remove the word or my posting may be removed by obamaniacs)

  • Sarah May

    fabulous woman

  • sm

There is nothing “fashionable” about this woman and quite honestly she’s a very homely woman.

  • EJ

She’s beautiful but I don’t like the pose at all.

  • ?

Vogue is nothing but a big book of advertisements. So which is it? She understand the American economy or not?

  • boogie

    NAY

  • PP

    Definitely yay!

  • lena

she better watch Oprah who’s all over her hubby

  • elena

Its her eyebrows. I really wish she would get someone to reshape them. Quite a few people comment that she’s looks angry or fierca menat not in a good way, and really…reshaped eyebrows could soften her look and reduce her scowl.

The are far too areched and the centers are far too low.

  • Michelle

To be honest, I don’t think she’s that pretty. It’s something with her eyebrows that makes her scary looking. And the smile….

Sorry, she looks like an undercover witch to me.

  • the dq

First of all, I don’t think she should be on the cover of a fashion magazine and second, I’m extremely disappointed that she would even consider wearing anything that designer made considering he uses FUR in his clothing lines. TOTALLY DISGUSTING and she’s turning people away by her disregard for animal rights!!!

  • Kelly

Sad when this is the best picture you can have taken. Sorry, but the woman is ugly and has a terrible under bite. And as for her supposed “style”? I guess finding anything to fit a body that looks like a bag of potatoes stuck on a sawhorse is an accomplishment.

Vogue has proven again that it’s jumped the shark.

  • http://gpost Team Lara Croft

    Princeton. Harvard. Amazing woman.

  • trina

    very boring pic
could have been a lot better

  • kim

Don’t like her missing neck or her eyebrows. Her arms look awesome… so toned. I’m just so happy she’s in the white house… actually her husband.

  • patheticwomendisgustme

She’s not a very good looking woman, but this picture is absolutely horrible. I’ve seen her look a lot better. . . Vogue definitely dropped the ball on this one. I also don’t know why she’s on the cover of Vogue since she’s not very fashionable. She’s an intelligent woman so I expected her to be on Newsweek, Time, etc type magazines, not superficial Vogue.

  • lo

    YYYAAAAAYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • patheticwomendisgustme

My name isn’t a reference to her; Its for the ignorant woman supporting Chris Brown .

  • Unbelievable

It is so sad how negative you all are. We are a nation wanting change and yet you people have nothing better to do but trash another human being. You all need to check yourselves before talking about anyone at all. It doesn’t matter if she is beautiful or not, she has class and is a very smart woman. You’d all kill to be in her shoes and it doesnt matter what you all say, when someone talks crap about another individual it is nothing but jelousy. Be happy for her that’s all…

  • jade

Michelle Obama is not attractive at all! I’m sorry! She needs alot of dental work on her mouth! when i look at her i think of a huge mouth with a huge overbite! She doesn’t seem approachable! She seems very stuffy, someone who doesn’t give you a warm feeling. this is my opinion, so i have a right to say how i feel!
