i agree, why are you promoting zac and vanessa’s appearance so much? every time you hear somebody new is going to be there, you also throw in a pic of zanessa.

and i agree with 7. what a joke.

    ladysdsandiego Says:

i don’t know why you guys keep complaining about zac and vanessa being there. to me its a good thing. you can’t honestly say that the oscars are an exciting award show. this allows the younger audience to watch the awards which they seriously need. They’re old and stuffy, and they need to involve younger up-and-coming actors.

    Suzie Says:

I agree with #8. Zac and Vanessa were in one successful movie (and it’s sequel). They really aren’t known for anything else up to this point, just for being some teenybopper magnets. They are far from academy awards “worthy.”

wow, I didn’t know the oscars had becoming a tween event. as if it wasn’t going downhill already!

  15. 15

uh #13 suzie it wasn’t just the sequel that was successul. it was also the first one too and the second one. and of course they’re just known for that movie only. they’re still in the beginning stages of their career. everybody starts off somewhere.

    go sox Says:

Suzie, Leo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt were teenybopper magnets not that long ago. GIve it a rest. They’re just doing an opening number, since they CAN sing and dance. Most actors can’t. I say, give them a chance. Everyone has to start somewhere. Heck, Ann Hathaway was a DISNEY girl too.

    ladysdsandiego Says:

    #17 Kay.

    go sox…….

i agree with you completely. all actors start somewhere and anne was a disney star as well.

besides these two have done more than ‘just HSM,’ but whatever people with these harsh opinions don’t want to be swayed anyway….

given the line up, this could be a tribute to the musical genre, as everyone announced thus far not only has experience in that genre but also some have been connected to SUCCESSFUL musicals.

zac was in HS as well, and little old HSM3 made hundreds of millions at the box office, as did HS.

so i’m looking forward for the to have the opportunity to show everyone what they are capable of.

this is huge for them, and i wish them the best of luck!!!!!!!!

    go Zac and Vanessa!

but then again, another reason JJ is putting Zac and Vanessa’s name in the posts about the oscar coverage is b/c it gets him hits. a lot of hits………

Oh really? What exactly she’s done? I guess Macbeth, Amlet or something lighter like Carousel and The Phantom of the Opera? Perhaps Lorca’s Blood Wedding? Maybe she even is a member of the Royal National Theatre of London and a close friend & partner of Ian McKellen. What about Greek plays? Did Vanessa eventually play Medea or not? Please inform me! I’m so curious…

    slambang Says:

Haven’t they learned their lesson by now not to have musical numbers during the Oscars? Most of the time they stink and just make the telecast even longer. UGH!

  27. 27
    ladysdsandiego Says:

you are so stupid. she’s young. how can she have done those. it doesn’t matter what theatre she did. the point is she did it. she has experience. how old are you by the way. some of you older people are so immature.

I love zac and vanessa, but i am a bit suprised to see them actually performing on the oscars! Still though, can’t wait to see that. plus it’ll be fun to see anne sing! I’ve only heard her sing a few times, but from what i’ve heard, she can carry a tune. I’m definitly going to watch this.

  29. 29
    Shannon Says:

I watch the oscars to see the red carpet show me and the rest of the world included, now with Zac and Vanessa along with Rob from twilight it makes sense that JJ post there pics. also the teen/tween crowd bring in alot of viewers and Zanessa has that pull beleive it or not also there little old HSM movie brought so much more money than the movies that are nominated thanks to those tweens, so hating on them is a lost cause hollwood has long been forgotten about the talent sad to say all they want is money and big names I mean why else would they invite Jennifer Anison while Brangelina is there, gossip keeps ppl talking brings in viewers as does Zanessa.

Do you really think that Zac and Vanessa fans don’t see through your absurd postulations? You naysayers sound like a bunch of enraged little middle school girls bashing on the new kids who just arrived at your school.

You all need to grow up and learn tolerance and acceptance of other people. Stop acting like a bunch of bratty mean girls.

    Jo Says:

i can’t wait. this better be good. i love musicals! The oscars need something to liven up the show. It’s so boring and you have to wait till the 3rd hour to find out the big winners are.

  33. 33
    kaylee Says:

oh, shut up old people!! if you don’t want to watch them, turn down the volume or whatever. you don’t freaking run the show! the oscars want more viewers, and they’ll get more viewers if they appeal to a younger audience. geez. it’s not like they’re nominated for anything. cut them crap!!! it’s not going to ruin the show. gosh. you old folk are really cranky.

    #26–to #23:

You know what? Most of the academy people have not done any of those things…not Leoando DiCaprio or Johnny Depp, etc. So, why should Zac or Vanessa have had to do them before they can perform on the Oscar stage? As far as what has she done before HSM? That has been listed on these threads time and time again. Also, IF you are such a “highbrow” type then why are you even bothering to look at a thread like this? Also, to be so intelligent I’m sure you can figure out where you can go to find out about all the other things Vanessa has done. You are the lone looking stupid here on this board.

  37. 37

Anne is an amazing actress but singing & dancing? …right ok

  38. 38
    Karen Says:

BTW, it is about time that JJ post something about Zac and Vanessa’s honor of being asked to the Oscars on the main board. Numerous young stars have been on this board without any great thing they have done. And for those who think Zac and Vanessa are only known for some little Disney movie, well, that little Disney movie made nearly $250,000,000 worldwide.
Look at the stars from Slumdog Millionaire. They are totally unknown but are getting all kinds of notice—and they deserve it. Most of you complaining about Zac and Vanessa are just angry because they are attractive and get lots of attention and it just raises the ire in a lot of people.

Also, there is no word that Zac and Vanessa will be in the opening number of the show. It has been reported that they are going to be in the number that Beyonce will be in with Jackman and that apparently isn’t the opening number. Since Hugh Jackman is a song and dance man himself and not a comedian I have a feeling there will be more than one dance and song done in this show.

    Karen Says:

The cast from Slumdog Millionaire are unknowns and they are getting lots of attention—which they should. It doesn’t matter how much experience they have had in their careers only that they display talent and are performers. Many of you who speak out against Zac and Vanessa are angry because they are attractive and get lots of attention and it just makes you angry.
    It makes you look silly.

I guess them being there is to give young hollywood an opportunity to flaunt what they can do as a performer. based on the work they have to their credit so far i just dont think they deserve it. yet.

Do you know how stupid your comment is?

Zac and Vanessa have nothing to do with the Disney channel so why should they “stick to” it?

You don’t consider “Miracle Run” a serious movie? Zac was nominated for a best actor award for his role in that movie. How about “Derby Stallion” “17 Again,” and “MAOW”? Those are all serious roles. So is Vanessa’s role as a stutterer in “Bandslam.”

You are spouting pabulum that other haters have regurgitated so many times it has turned putrid.

Try coming up with an original, intellignet idea of your own.

    gail Says:

Why are they turning the Oscars into a circus? If I wanted to watch a song and dance routine I’d be watching the Tony’s or the Grammy’s. And what’s with all the Zanessa hype? Neither Efron nor Hudgens deserve to be up on that stage with truly serious actors. All I can say is they must have great publicists because they both stink.

  58. 58
    Jazmin Says:

I wonder if Mickey and Minnie will be there too along with goofy Zac and dopey Vanessa? The Oscars are turning into a sham to be laughed at. What horrible program planning.

    Serena Says:

Jared seriously needs to quit masturbating over the fact that Zanessa will be at the oscars, and so do all you Zanessa Brats. (: Vanessa Hudgens can go **** herself hard.

  61. 61
    sjk Says:

Seriously? Although Jackman seems to be a nice guy, his only claim to fame outside of broadway is Xmen. Which he began in those films at 32. No Globes or Oscars… I checked.

Check out some of these “Oscar worthy” contenders and you will see that most of them made their mark in their late 20′ or early 30″s. (Zac is 21 and Vanessa is 20. )

And sorry, Pitt, Jolie, Dicaprio, Cruise, Penn, even Miley and the JoBros, don’t do the “theatre” style song and dance and wouldn’t want to be asked to help with the opening. So just let Hugh Jackman put together the people he wants to do his show. I think the “Oscar worthy” man should know how to pick em, don’t you?

  62. 62
    pam Says:

Love the Oscars and especially Ann and Zac! They both seemed to have matured as actors right before our eyes. Now if he would just get rid of that annoying what’s her face who still acts like a ten year old, all would be well with the world.

I mean, why don;t they have the other HSM cast members there? Why is it JUST Zac and Vanessa? Because they’re promoting a fake relationship and Ortega just wants the attention on THEM.

  68. 68
    sheila Says:

at the end of the day, the show is about making money. i’m glad about the types of movies that are being honoured at the oscars, i really am. but the truth of the matter is is that these are not movies that people are going out in droves to see, no matter how good they are. some of these films opened the same weekend as “paul blart mall cop” and that ended up being the highest grossing movie that weekend. what does that tell you?

because of that, the viewership of the show has been steadily declining because people just don’t care about these movies. like i said, they are terrific movies but they aren’t blockbusters like titanic (which was a horrendous piece of garbage, i might add). yes, i am highbrow when it comes to movies but the awards shows are about the almighty dollar. just like the airing of the superbowl is not really about football (duh). its about getting advertisers. advertisers will spend the money if they think people are going to watch. simple.

  69. 69
    Naomi Says:

    #54 Jared reader

I’m not having a go at you, let’s all all drop the sarcasm and address this honestly, you need to think through what you’re saying. You think that only established actors and superb actors should ATTEND the Oscars or perform???

Can’t you see why the Oscars are dying? Who wants to watch an old gentlemen’s club boringly pat themselves on the back which is what the Oscars have been. I remember watching Brad Pitt in Thelma and Louise and The Favour (cringeworthy), I remember George Clooney in
ER. My point is that they started from somewhere when they were not ‘Oscar material’ and see where they are now. Back then, who knew Brad will ever be nominated for an Oscar.

Nobody is saying Zac and Vanessa are ‘Oscar materials’ but as young and inexperienced as they are, they have something to bring to the table.
As unknowns, after numerous rejections, their first gig drew in 8m viewers on DC, They won Emmys for it and it spawned stage shows and ice shows across the globe.
The sequel drew in 17m viewers and was the best selling CD in the whole world in 2007.
The third which went to the screen made £250m worldwide. Whatever you think of them personally, they draw in the viewers and families enjoy their performance.
Those families that contributed to the $250m ticket sales will be tuning in to watch the Oscars and I’m one of them.

Hollywood is realising rightly that it is not a gentleman’s club. I believe in talent but I believe that talent needs to be developed. One way they need to do that is to expose the young starlets to the seasoned actors so they can observe and learn, not just the skills of the thespian but how to carry themselves at award shows and the dignity that used to be associated with old hollywood.

Hollywood is going down the drain because the veterans refuse to mentor or guide the young ones but unfortunately they are not drawing in viewers anymore, check the box office figures. The young ones are drawing the audience so its foolish to ignore them. Their fans will be the future moviegoing public.

I love Zac and Vanessa but I know they’ve not done anything YET worth being nominated but they are capable of performing and should perform at the Oscars. It’s an honor they are mindful of. It is mixing with the Veterans and observing then=m and talking with them that they learn to be better.

That’s why we have schools and why most offices have mentoring schemes. It is built on the premise that people start from a low level and learn from those who know and improve till they reach their optimum. To judge Zac and Vanessa now is like basing your opinion of whether a girl should be allowed into the parlour on her first grade results. She doesn’t have to pass the SATs before she learns how to sit in public and have a well-mannered conversation with adults.

    Let’s be reasonable here.

I would usually ignore ignorant and resentful crap like your post but to answer your question, Vanessa was asked because she is the singing voice of the HSM CDs (check the 3 CDs and the most downloaded songs on each album) and she and Corbin are the best dancers. Barring Lucas, who is a great performer, the others can probably not perform live. Zac had to prove himself on HS before being allowed to do his own singing ( I like his voice btw).

If you don’t like Vanessa or her performance, turn of your tv on Sunday, those of us who watched HSM £ just because of her will be turning ours on. No need to throw fits. find a nice dvd and watch on Sunday, end of story.

It’s really amusing but most of the twats making rude comments here probably don’t even watch the Oscars. What is giving them ulcers is that Vanessa has been given the honor of being asked to perform at the Oscars.
Even if they are watching Barney on Sunday night, they would probably not concentrate because they’ll be choking at the thought that Vanessa is getting exposure at the Oscars.
It’s not outrage at the quality of the Oscars, it’s outrage that a young starlet they want to fail is getting more opportunities and proving them wrong.
After writing her off, she appeared at the GGs dressed with such class, fashion blogs were giving her attention with the A-listers and that stung. Now the thought of her getting any attention at the Oscars is very painful, I’m sure.

I would offer my condolences but I have none to offer. In my days, it was easy not to like a celeb, you just tune out everything about them. I don’t understand people obsessively trawling the internet to find anything on someone they hate in order to post a snarky and daft comment, exposing their own ugliness. Too much effort.

Amazing how with all things going on in the world, an award show for the richest & somewhat useless members of society (despite my love for some of them) having the gazillionth party of the year to pat themselves on the back, is what people get so wound up about. Being talented also in singing and dancing doesnt make one a singer or a dancer, and Anne knows it more than well. She is an amazingly adorable actress and a really radiant woman. I’m her man.

    Naomi Says:

#88, don’t be concerned, she’s managed to find time to star in a movie that debuted as #1 in the world, do several photoshoots, film another movie, do promo tour and rehearse for the Oscars.

    She’s great at multi-tasking, don’t you think?

Yeah, we know she’s hot but you really should remove that picture as your screensaver, you’ll feel better about yourself then.

    For Zac and Vanessa fans:

Hugh Jackman has confirmed that ZV and the mamma mia cast (A&D) will be doing a number with him. He said he conceptualized the number and Baz directed. I like that he brought in performers from the big musicals of 2008. I’ll post the link as soon as I get it.

Let’s get set for the Oscars! I’m so excited, I’ve already taken Monday off work :)

  91. 91
    Naomi Says:

    From Team Hudgens:

“search for videos of Hugh Jackman and watch the latest one from “Current Affair” but he was asked if he was indeed performing with Beyonce and Zac..he said:

” I thought it was a huge secret, but I will say the cast of High School Musical and Mama Mia will be appearing in a number I conceptualized with the help of Baz Luhrman. But, I want to try and keep it a secret.”

They have turned the Oscars into a joke!

Last year Miley was so out of her element and this year it’s Efron and Slutgens.

Wonder how people who filmed some of these movies for over months and finally see it produced on screen the next year feel about sharing the stage with two kids who starred in a cheesy 6 week production from the set to the screen. That’s hollywood!

Also how bad do all the other kids from HSM feel when they are just cast aside for Mr. Dreamboat and his Troll gf?

What exactly do you mean she is not “worthy”? It is obvious you are making—what you think is a sly reference—to the great Vanessa Hudgens’ “scandal” that the majority of people got over long ago. But many of those “legends” sitting ou there in that audience can only wish they had such a mild happening in THEIR past. And the great Kate Winslet is even nominated for a role in which she has no clothes on and nobody swiped that picture for all the world to see. She willingly took her clothes off to be filmed and got PAID for it and has done it many times. So, you are making a young girl seem awful for doing something in her own private surroundings that were never meant to be seen by anyone and now you are trying to say she is no longer worthy to be among people like are going to be in that audience? Oh, you need to take the blinders off your eyes. Many in that audience have done far worse in their private and pubic lives.

    Susan Says:

I am so excited that Zac and Vanessa are going to perform at the Oscars. It says a lot that they were asked to perform in the opening number. People in the industry see them as the dedicated, hard working and talented young actors they are.

  105. 105
    vancrazed Says:

Everyone has to start somewhere. i think it speaks volumes that Zac and Van’s movie grossed over 3 mil. worldwide. They have something to offer the industry and just need to be given a chance to do something other than disney. It is coming and producers are already recognizing their abilities. I am so glad that these two will get to showcase their ability to perform live. They will do great, and I can’t think of a better deserving pair to represent young hollywood.

    Malia Says:

In the words of Hugh Jackman, “I’m sure no matter what we do, some people will like it, some won’t.”

And he rightfully referred to Zac and Vanessa as the “stars of High School Musical.”

    Hugh Jackman know his stuff.

    sweetbutterflies Says:

Naomi, thanks for the video! This is so awesome. Though a lot of people (or are those just a few trying to stir up trouble with more identities. gosh, internet can be so easy at times, right haters?) on here don’t agree with me, Zac and Vanessa deserve it. As do Hugh, Anne, Beyoncé, Amanda and Dominic.

As for the haters, aren’t you getting a little immature? I was bored and took the time to read ALL of the comments and you can’t believe how much I saw the same arguments. HSM is crap, pull the teen/tween crowd, Vanessa took naked pictures. Fans don’t care about the latter anymore! And HSM was great. It’s good to see high school reflected in a squeaky clean way. I’m right now in my high school years. Yeah, HSM doesn’t show the reality, but it shows how everyone wants their high school experience to be. And like a few others already pointed out, the movies got a lot of viewers (1 and 2) and pulled in a heap load of money (3).

Ease up on them, okay? And by the way, why is almost nobody reacting to Amanda and Dominic’s performance? They’re great performers as well.

How old are you? 12? Because only a 12-years old would think Zac Efron is a serious actor who plays serious roles. Serious actors are Daniel Day Lewis, Robert Downy Jr, Cate Blanchett, even Hugh Jackman considering his theater roots and films like The Prestige & The Fountain (that’s a serious role, not 17 again! Give me a break!)

Honey, I am no 12-year old. Far from it. And I do know what serious movies are. Your trying to sound like an intellectual movie “snob” only make you come across look foolish–a pseudo snob.

Zac and Vanessa have both done “serious” roles and they will do more. Having worked for Disney does not negate every other project they do.

Allowing your hatred for Disney and these two young stars to be a driving force in your life falls into the category of middle school antics. No matter how old you are.

  117. 117
    Karen Says:

Look, Anne started out with Disney and she is going to be there doing her thing on Oscar night BECAUSE—if you are too dense—she is NOMINATED FOR BEST ACTRESS. So, this insulting of anyone who has done anything for Disney and who are young is is just asinine.

  118. 118
    Karen Says:

Once again, it doesn’t look like Zac and Vanessa will be in the OPENING number. It looks like it will be Anne Hathaway singing and dancing with Hugh Jackman at that point. And why not? Jackman is the host and Hathaway is nominated for one of the major female awards. It looks that Zac and Vanessa are going to be doing another segment with Jackman that also features Beyonce and the couple from Mama Mia. I throw this in here and there so if people don’t see them at the beginning of the show that they won’t get all upset that they aren’t going to be there after all.

  119. 119
    poppy Says:

All of you haters are seriously pathetic. No matter what you say, these two are going to be making waves, just your childish comments prove that. They are talented, humble and amazing young people, with huge sucess behind them and only more to come. Malia is right most of you just sound like idiots trying to bark back, when in actual fact you are wrong, and ZV performing at the Oscars, their movie being number one, many more offers and movies in the pipeline and the fact that they are just amazing and genuine people in all the Hollywood grime, proves that. You can shout all you want, but it’s still going to happen. Go cry, it might make you feel better. Let’s face it, Z and V don’t see any of the crap you post and they are going to continue to live their lives and you all meanwhile are still going to be wallowing in hate.

For eveyone’s information. Zac and V are not Disney stars, they just stared in a Disney movie, a very very sucessful one at that. Prior to that, V did mostly independent films, and so did Zac, alongside Summerland. Now, they are done with Disney, and this performance has nothing to do with Disney anyway. The Oscar guys know what’s good and ZV are it, along with all the others performing too. Zac is a very talented and charasmatic guy, and moreover, he is a nice person too, he isn’t fake or pretentious, or mean, he and Van are a loving couple, who are about as normal as you can get. Vanessa is truly stunning, an amazing person, who cares about her friends and family and has the potential to be huge in both movies and the fashion world. They are both truly awesome people. If you want to hate on them, go right ahead. There are plenty, and I mean plenty, of people who support them, and we are all laughing in your faces. These to have ‘it’, so go cry about it. Because lets face it, detractors are only futher reason to suceed, and suceed they will.

    troy Says:

I’m so sick of the elitist nonsense that I’m seeing being posted about “Zac and Vanessa not being Oscar-worthy.” First off they are not nominated for anything (although Zac does have “17 Again” and “Me and Orson Welles” and Vanessa has “Bandslam” so maybe next year) they are going to be performing and Zac is apparently going to be presenting the Award for Best Song. And I understand that Hugh Jackman conceptualized the routine specifically with the stars of “High School Musical” and “Mama Mia” (Amanda Seyfried and Dominic Cooper) in mind. So apparently he feels they are “worthy” of sharing the stage with him.

Let’s stop acting like the Oscars which I love and never miss are some highbrow telecast designed for the intelligentsia. Last year Seth Rogan and Jonah Hill were presenters. And what movies were their claim to fame? “Knocked Up” and “Superbad”, two movies which I enjoyed throughly but works of provocative medatative intellectualism they are not. For crying out loud Robert Downey Jr (a fine actor to be sure) is nominated for “Tropic Thunder!” Now there’s a classy work of art for ya. So KNOCK IT OFF.

You are so right, troy. The reason they are trying to infuse some youth into these awards is because they’re too “elitist” and boring. Frankly, I have usually not see most of the nominated flicks anyway, so I find them extremely boring and way too lengthy. Woo-hoo, for someone who had the smarts to realize that what they were doing WASN’T WORKING!!!!

And geez, they’re just performing……so people need to just shut up.

Great comments from fellow Angels and loyal fans here thank you all for sharing your wise words.

To all the snobs here, you can wrench all you want but it will never change the fact Zac and my dear Vanessa are performing with some finest actors at the Oscars. They didn’t gate crash their way in but they were INVITED. Apparently, Hugh Jackman knows their gift in musical than other “serious and worthy” (as you want to call them) actors can not do to that extent.

Also, It’s just amusing too see your tantrums for just this. Seriously they are not trying to steal the thunder from your so called A-list for pete’s sake! And yup, i’m sad for all you but us fans are in so much joy right now and we will savor this until Sunday comes.
