Chris Brown Withdraws From Kids' Choice Awards

Chris Brown is withdrawing his name from consideration for the 2009 Kids’ Choice Awards.

A spokesman for the 19-year-old entertainer said, “Chris very much appreciates the support of his fans and the honor they have paid him in the way of nominations for Favorite Male Singer and Favorite Song. Unfortunately, the controversy surrounding the incident last month has shifted the focus from the music to whether he should be allowed to be among those nominated. While Chris would like to speak to his fans directly about this and other issues, pending legal proceedings preclude his doing so at this time. Once the matter before him has been resolved, he intends to do so.”

Oprah Winfrey recently weight in on the Rihanna and Chris Brown‘s domestic drama, saying, “Chris Brown and Rihanna, if I was your friend, I would call you up and I would say, ‘Give it some time, get yourself some counseling, take care of yourself.’ Heal yourself first… And also, love doesn’t hurt. I’ve been saying this to women for years: ‘If a man hits you once, he will hit you again.’ “

this case is really sad. he will be punished for the rest of his life for a mistake he made at 19. he doesn’t deserve hard jail time with murderers, rapists, gang members and dealers.
oprah on her horse should shut her mouth cuz she has made some BIG mistakes too and she was allowed to get through it.

Well, he has the decency to step down…good. Y’know, #3, yes, he made a mistake, and he is a young adult and is responsible for his actions…people aren’t raised or born to be abusive…and for what he’s done is not excuse to feel it’s alright to be on a Kids show in which many of the kids shows are looking to expose positive role models who are young and can represent one of the many choices kids can aspire to in life. It’s a diplomatic thing Chris has done to withdraw, and I’m very happy about that. There’s a moral to this lesson and this is setting a better example than to allow him to represent at a kids show knowing he was abusive towards a fellow artist…how would it be explained to the masses of young children if he still presented on the show? Now explain that to your kids.

I agree, the media should give it a rest, everyone is weighing in like crazy. Hopefully Chris has repented and learned from his mistakes.
He is young I really hope people can get past it in the future. I still love his music and hope his career recovers from this. Wish the best to Rihanna.

I think that Nickelodeon made him “withdraw” because they were experiencing a huge backlash over this. They probably gave him a choice to bow out gracefully or they would have removed him.

QUIT calling what Chris did a “MISTAKE” He knew at the time what he was doing. DV is a disease! And yes, it’s good that he is dropping out. Right now he is not such a good role model for kids or anyone else for that matter. And of course ppl are not going to just let this drop. It’s a very serious issue and like it or not, DV is EVERYONE’S business. If it weren’t then society would even have a harder time getting both the victim AND the abuser help. Chris needs help. Not just anger management. He needs a good therapist and some serious tough love. He needs to be made to understand that what he is doing has many consiquences. He needs to know that it effects more then just his victim. That it can cause problems for his career, personal life, and yes, even his freedom. Weather he is cute or not and weather his music is good or not, those things don’t matter. As for Rihanna, she too needs therapy cuz she is not doing herself or Chris any favors by trying to back pedal now and then forgiving him BEFORE he has gotten the help he needs. By doing this, she left the door wide open for her next attack. This is not the first time he has done this and without help, it won’t be the last!

A mistake? There are people in jail for exactly what he did to Rhianna – gang members, spousal abuse cases, robberies gone bad and more.
And he doesn’t deserve jail time?
You must be either an abuser or an abused person or you would not take this stand that it was a mistake. It was a flat out beating–and that should be punished.

Whew. I am so glad that Chris Brown is not up for a “Kid’s Choice” award. That would just be in poor taste. Chris, get back to counselling and deal with this.

“inciden last month”? did he spill water on the dinner table? parked where he was not supposed to? what he did is a crime, it involves violence. Call it what it is, man up.

    tom Says:

Does Chris Brown’s people really think that kids vote on these things based purely on music?? Oh, so since his music is fine –but unfortunately, his image is tainted by what he did to Rihanna — he should have been allowed to keep his name in? Doesn’t make any sense.

–He really needs serious counseling. He is quickly losing fans…
