Brad Pitt is a New NY Pilot

Brad Pitt inspects an airplane as part of his training to be a pilot on Wednesday (April 22) in New York.

The 45-year-old actor was also spotted with his partner Angelina and their daughters, Zahara and Shiloh, at Stop & Shop in New York this past weekend.

Angelina has reportedly signed on to portray crime novelist Patricia Cornwell‘s heroine Dr. Kay Scarpetta in a forthcoming movie, EW reports. The film will not be a direct adaptation of a particular novel in the 16-book series, but may combine elements from multiple books.

Tarantino back in Cannes with Almodovar, Campion

PARIS (Reuters) – Quentin Tarantino returns to Cannes as part of a group of familiar faces at the world’s biggest film festival that includes Pedro Almodovar, Ken Loach and New Zealand’s Jane Campion.

Tarantino, who won the Palme d’Or for “Pulp Fiction” in 1994, presents his long-awaited World War Two caper “Inglourious ********” starring Brad Pitt in the main competition line-up, festival director Thierry Fremaux said on Thursday.

He will be up against previous Cannes winners including Ken Loach, who presents “Looking for Eric” about former France and Manchester United soccer star Eric Cantona and Campion, who is showing “Bright Star” about the 19th century English poet John Keats.

Spanish director Almodovar, who has not won the top prize yet, brings an emotional drama called “Broken Embraces.”

The 62nd edition of the festival runs from May 13-24.

Eli Roth Spills Gory Details Of Tarantino’s ‘Inglourious ********’
‘It’s really the greatest of Quentin’s talents, all culminating in this film,’ Roth says of his acting debut

ANTA MONICA, California — When Quentin Tarantino and Eli Roth join forces, there are three things you can safely assume about the resulting movie: It will have a wicked sense of humor, be drenched in blood and sure as hell won’t be boring. These days, the “Hostel” and “Grindhouse” collaborators are putting the final touches on “Inglourious ********,” a feverishly anticipated August release that has the duo swinging for the fences.

“Celebrity is good for about three things: Sometimes getting out of a ticket, if a trooper likes your work, and in upstate New York they don’t even know who I am,” he said, drawing laughter from the developers and government officials who gathered with him Wednesday in Gentilly.

“The other thing is getting a nice table at K-Paul’s or Emeril’s. And the third thing is for either business causes or celebrity causes,” he said. “You cannot discount the work that Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt do for people in the world. And I’m happy to throw my waning days of celebrity behind . . . the organization to bring housing back to first responders and to entice people to come back to this city and make a positive contribution to its recovery.”

To be sure, Pitt lent considerably more fame and financial support to the Make It Right Foundation’s efforts to rebuild the ravaged Lower 9th Ward. But self-deprecating jokes aside, Aykroyd’s seed money and fundraising efforts have been key to a police support group called the Blue Line Foundation.

After an open bid process, the New Orleans Redevelopment Authority selected the Blue Line Foundation and its partner, Coastal Green Development LLC of Alabama, to buy 21 storm-damaged properties near Dillard University.

Aykroyd isn’t the only screen star working with NORA on redeveloping such properties. Actor Wendell Pierce, a native of nearby Pontchartrain Park and a star of the planned HBO series “Treme,” was part of the first group of developers to buy lots from NORA.

Changes may be made to film tax credit program

NEW ORLEANS — How much is it worth to keep the TV and movie industry humming in Louisiana?

    AP/File/Gabriel Bouys

Actors Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt arrive for the Los Angeles premiere of The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, December 8, 2008, in Westwood, California. The movie was partially filmed in Louisiana.

Lawmakers will tackle that question as they decide whether to keep or expand incentives designed to make Louisiana competitive as an alternative to Hollywood.

If the Legislature takes no action in its session opening Monday, the current 25 percent tax credit for movie and TV show makers will drop to 20 percent next year and 15 percent in 2012. That’s a scenario those heavily invested in the industry say would be disastrous.

“If it’s reduced, it will kill the film industry in this state,” said Daniel Forman, president of a new multimillion-dollar studio in Harahan. He said he’s counting on the state to keep the incentive at 25 percent or raise it to compete with states such as Georgia, which has bumped its incentive to 30 percent.

Gov. Bobby Jindal has said he will support legislation to keep the tax credit at 25 percent through 2012. Several legislators have prefiled bills to do so.

So far, there appears to be no opposition to keeping the 25 percent credit. But a move to raise it might get an icier reception, said Greg Albrecht, chief economist for legislative fiscal office.
