Eva Mendes - MET Costume Institute Gala 2009

Eva Mendes (in Calvin Klein) sparkles at the “Model as Muse: Embodying Fashion” Costume Institute Gala at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City on Monday (May 4).

The 35-year-old actress was accompanied on the red carpet by designer Francisco Costa, the creative director of Calvin Klein Collection.

At the swank event, WWD spotted Eva smoking in the ladies room with the Olsen twins, Mad Men‘s January Jones, the Proenza Schouler boys (Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough) and Olivier Theyskens (the artistic director of French fashion house Nina Ricci).

She looks great and love the dress! Too many weird outfits this year. Hers is one of the best I’ve seen so far.

# 3

not enough weird outfits. too much the same. so i guess eva, rachel and kate bosworth for the best dresses/looks so far.

Finally someone that looks half decent!
And to #1: They all smoke to stay so thin.

oh yeah…i forgot, and the drugs too, and the diets.

oh and i fogot to add in bar’s marchesa dress. marchesa doesn’t miss much do they. the dress is short but not short like the gisele versace or bilson’s bally. i would say bar was fourth. i love how riri is jareds top pic. i can’t deny it, but i think best dress has to go to the vera wang so far.

her dress is one of the main reasons why i love calvin klein so much!

I like the fit, color, cut and style of the dress on her. Her make up is a bit too ‘quiet’ and toned down, in my opinion, for the dress. Keeping her make up as is, I’d love this dress on Eva in jade green, eggplant or mulberry. I like the dress – I just don’t care for the quiet champagne color of the dress combined with extremely ‘quiet’ make up. I really want to see her wear a darker lipstick and less black upper eye liner.

Soft champagne, ivory, light gray, pale skin tone colors, pale gold or silver metallics = permission to wear stronger make up either on eyes or lips and wear a bit more color when it comes to make up. Strong or bold garment color = softer make up (playing up either eyes or lips, but not both). Just my opinion in terms of combining make up with clothing colors.

I think her accessories are lovely, and I especially like the touch of emerald green in the necklace and the bracelet. My personal choice, if I were wearing this gown, would be to skip the necklace all together, wear a daintier bracelet and go for dangling chandelier style emerald green and diamond earrings. However, that’s a personal choice. Eva looks lovely here, in my opinion, and her accessories don’t compete with the dress or her face.

OMG kate beckinsale in a great dress with fabulous colour, and marian cotillard in the dior pale pink are on the best dressed list.

jessica biels red dress looks better from the side. lou doillon beats her in the red dress category with a super short dress with a long train :) an molly sims definately beats kate moss’s gold turban dashiki asym dress by marc jacobs. rene zelweger in the herrera dress, great colour. SELMA BLAIR is definately a best dressed. she did the asym right!!!!

lol at shalom’s (beautiful lady) black poofy (remindes me of a grabage bag) dress. it has a lot of character but not a lot of stucture.

Eva does look good, she the second best behind Rachel Weisz for the best dressed of the night.

The dress is simply breathtaking! Beautiful dress on a cheap “actress”.

Eva: 1 Rachel Weisz: 0

After seeing the other crazy and wacky dresses from the MET, I have to admit this is a bit boring.

Meh, too safe.

Olivier Theyskens isn’t at Nina Ricci anymore.

a bit subtle for such a grand event… Great skin though…

This is beautiful but the wong woman is wearing it. Also this is more Oscar or Golden globe or society lady and not MET Costume gala which is supposed to be pushed to the extreme and not safe.

Just beautiful…Make up perfect , love the hair..

people…the dress is gorgeous, even if yes i’ve seen her wear the same thing a million times before. i can’t deny the dress or the fabric so yeah she has to get a best dressed, even if it’s too safe. it’s not as safe as say the RECOGNIZABLE and always the same VERSACE dress that blake lively is wearing, and also not as promy as tyra’s black metallic two tone dress with the reverse train. gah.

you can’t deny the dress. she is on the list (even with the same staid make up).

Now THAT is an elegant, beautiful dress. Love the creme hue of it too, yet sleek. A woman can almost get MARRIED in that!

Eva Mendes, classy dress for a classy girl. I love the dress, so elegant. Nice fit in a lovely figure. The hair up shows her beautiful eyes.

ehh i guess she looks alright, compared to a lot of the other messes she looks amazing
im not really loving the bottom part of the dress, but it does look nice overall
her face kinda looks weird, but i guess that’s just me, im losing my appeal for her
